adorable :D
His head comes up at the sudden appearance of the unfamiliar woman, his eyes intently skimming over her with curiosity before he pushes himself to his feet, careful not to startle her. ]
Are you lost, my lady?
huff
So, the young woman eyes him uneasily instead, keeping a safe distance. ]
That is my assumption as I can't make sense of the land. [ He doesn't sound Ferelden, either, but... he does look and sound more to what she's used to (a wide variety) than some of the others she'd noted earlier. ]
Can you tell me where I am?
that just ups the adorable, you realize
They call this place Wonderland. [ He offers the name with a wry smirk, motioning to the house. ] I'm not sure there is much about it that makes sense to anyone, I'm afraid.
gOD DAMMIT
"Wonderland?" [ Well, it's straightforward, though the place has yet to inspire wonder. Robyn glances quickly up at the mansion and back down, frowning slightly. ] Then, you don't live here?
:D
[ He chuckles at the question and drops his hands again, relaxing somewhat when she seems content to talk rather than attack. That's always a nice change of pace. ]
This place has a tendency of... "borrowing" people from their worlds for a time. People come from all manner of strange realms, caught up by whatever magic has created and sustains this place. Most it sends back to the moment they left, after a while - and none the wiser, or so I'm told.
no subject
[ Don't take it personally; she's on edge and completely off-kilter from this whole experience. You might be, too, if you had been about to fight an Archdemon. ]
"It" takes us and tosses us back... to what end? Where in Thedas are we, exactly?
no subject
[ He just got done with that actually. Well. Sort of. And that hadn't even been the real threat. ]
We're not in Thedas. At least not as far as I've been able to discern. Although I was hoping that might be your place of origin - most people here aren't from Thedas at all. Is that a Ferelden accent I detect?
no subject
They aren't from Thedas? [ An odd thing to say. ] Are we in the Fade, somehow?
[ But she doesn't remember anything that may have led up to this. It's possible, she supposes, that it's all another strange dream. ]
Oh - Yes, it is. [ Robyn smiles, distracted. ] But yours isn't, I think.
no subject
[ Realizing he's being rude, he ducks into a polite bow that would do any Orlesian proud. he's had lots of practice, of late. ]
My apologies for forgetting my manners, my lady. Inquisitor Brennan Trevelyan, at your service. Formerly of Ostwick, if the accent hasn't given me away already.
no subject
I suspected the Free Marches, but... [ He's clearly a nobleman, and despite her origins, she seems (likely) anything but. Fairly conscious of the state of her dress and how exhausted she must seem, she tucks hair behind her ear, clears her throat, and says: ] My lord, I am Robyn Cousland of the Grey Wardens, formerly of Highever.
[ No longer. Her family is dead and she is a Warden; who she was before isn't very important. ]
But, the Inquisition? Of the Chantry, you mean? I... didn't realize there was an Inquisitor.
no subject
[ It comes as such a surprise that all the training Josie's been drilling into his skull for the past months goes right out the window and he nearly topples onto his face before he straightens again, eyes wide and a little startled. ]
Your Majesty, I'm sorry I didn't recognize you. Or... expect to find you here. Although I would think it's at least an improvement from the Deep Roads.
[ Although then the rest of her words catch up with him and he hesitates, because his Warden definitely knew of him, as they'd exchanged correspondence. She'd seemed surprisingly well informed for being in the depths of Darkspawn territory. ]
I... yes. That would be me. It's a more recent development in the grand state of things. [ Sort of. ]
no subject
[ But, even as she says it, she isn't sure; it isn't as if there are many Wardens to confuse her with in the first place, let alone female ones. She explains, then, quickly: ]
I'm not royalty and, blessedly, I've only been once to the Deep Roads.
[ And what an experience that had been. She considers him, brows knit, bearing a slight frown. Something is wrong. Could this be a trick? ]
Forgive me, I hadn't realized the Inquisition was still... active.
no subject
[ He wish he'd known that before he'd just complicated things. He straightens again, raking fingers through his hair as he gives her a searching look. ]
Humor me but a moment, my lady, but what is the date, where you come from? What is happening?
no subject
[ Maker, just when she supposed things couldn't get more complicated. She admits a tired smile; he seems as wearied of the confusion as she does and she can't very well hold it against him for not having all the answers. ]
It is 9:31 of the Dragon Age. [ Could he be so far as to be in a different Age? May as well say it to be safe. ] Near the end of the Fifth Blight, if we are able to take the Archdemon tomorrow.
no subject
[ What a confusing mess with Morrigan that had made. ]
Ah. Yes, that would explain it, then. I'm afraid I'm from a little further ahead than that. 9:42 Dragon, to be precise.
no subject
[ It's spoken with a weary sort of resignation; she's seen enough of the Templar/Mage conflict to not poke too much fun at either side. Wardens aren't meant to get involved in much else besides darkspawn, anyway. ]
Maker. You mean it, don't you? [ How can that be? Robyn studies him, not detecting deception, innocent or otherwise. ] Then - The Blight. Is it...?
[ Dare she ask what happened to them? If Thedas had fallen, he surely would have mentioned it by now. Wouldn't he? ]
no subject
[ Sweetheart, if you think you've even seen a fraction of the Templar/Mage Conflict, boy does he have news for you.
At least she took the news about the dates better than anticipated. ]
I'm afraid I do. And calm your fears, my lady. The Blight ended in Denerim. You did take the Archdemon. You and Alistair, and your companions. You're practically legends in your own right, now.
no subject
[ At the very least it could have been something Morrigan was involved in; that's perfectly reasonable to suspect. ]
"Legends?" [ Robyn just looks at him curiously, not quite believing; after all, for all she thinks of her companions, she doesn't consider herself doing much more than her duty to the people they serve. ] ... I'm relieved to hear it. Surprised, but -
[ Alistair. She peers at Brennan. ]
You know Alistair, then?
no subject
[ Her curiosity has his smile deepening a hint and he inclines his head. ] I do. Sort of. We've only actually met in person once, and that was briefly. And... he was yelling at mages for doing something irresponsible, so I think I just tossed my own point out the window. But we've written a few times. He was having trouble with Orlesian negotiations and I gave him a hand. Not that I blame him. Orlesians are enough to give anyone a headache. But he seems a likable sort, I've quite enjoyed our correspondence.
no subject
[ He may; she wouldn't be at all surprised if he knew each of her companions. ]
Well, yes, he's never been exactly taken with them. [ She thinks of when they first met Morrigan in the Wilds and smiles despite herself. ]
Negotiations- [ She cuts off, thinking suddenly to a bit earlier in their conversation, and her brow twitches. ] As the king, you mean. Maker. [ And Robyn smiles apologetically. ] It's... strange, I have to admit. Hearing of a future when it seems nothing like the present.
no subject
[ He rubs the back of his head sheepishly for a moment. ]
She's from just after fighting the Archdemon, I believe, so at least the pair of you will be closer together in experiences. Where - when? - I come from, she's spent some time in Orlais, at the Empress' court, but she traveled to join us in the Inquisition as an adviser on the occult and arcane. She's been an immense help, I've been grateful for her assistance.
no subject
[ Though, since he hasn't mentioned the others by name, it seems doubtful now. ]
- After? [ Then she'll remember things Robyn herself can't. It's beyond bizarre, but something, apparently, that the young Warden will have to get used to. ] ... Hm. I'm not sure I can imagine her at court... or in Orlais, from all I've heard of it. An adviser, surely.
no subject
[ He hesitates at that, unsure how much he should say past that. ] If there's anything you want to know, i will happily answer, but if you'd rather not, I can abide by that as well.
no subject
She may learn otherwise later and she's far from naive, but, for now... ]
I'm not exactly sure what to ask. [ So many questions, so little time. She considers the mansion, dark eyes searching its exterior for something. ] We aren't exactly hostages, then... What is it that they want of us?
