[Alistair stares down at the young woman who'd just casually climbed in his window in open-mouthed shock.]

Haven't you heard of doors? And knocking?

[As he speaks he shifts a bit closer to the sword and shield propped against the side of the closet, just in case. Yes, she looks small and young and harmless but she did just climb in his window for no apparent reason. She could be an assassin, trying to catch him off-guard. Or she could be a demon, if this weird estate really was some Fade dream he was trapped in. He still hadn't worked out if it was all real or not yet so he wasn't discounting demons showing up.]

I could have been naked you know!

[In fact he'd been half-way through stripping off his heavy plate armour, the pieces forming a neat pile on the floor at his feet and making him rattle slightly less than otherwise as he crosses his arms over his chest and frowns primly at her.]
littlestreetcat: (amused)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-21 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Good thing I turned up now and not a few minutes later then, huh?

[ She smirks, nodding to the armour on the floor. That certainly would have been more awkward, no lies there, but she's more amused with his reaction. Granted, most reactions that you get from climbing in through someone's window are pretty golden.

Standing up, she takes a glance around the room as though considering it. More like searching it for anything that might be valuable. But casually, you know, more like she's just admiring his tastes before nodding belatedly. ]

Heard of it. Knocking. Not really my style, though.

[ Looking back at him, she grins. ]

To be fair, I didn't think there was anyone in here.
fatherlesskind: (01)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-21 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[The room is pretty bare of personality to be honest. Alistair is a fairly new arrival himself and has spent too much time on the road to just make himself at home. Everything seems to be contained to a pack in the corner which spills out an assortment of clothes and personal items including several old carved stone statuettes and runestones. Of greater interest might be his coin pouch, tossed carelessly onto the bed and spilling out silver and copper pieces along with the glint of a lone gold sovereign.

And of course the increasingly annoyed warrior scowling at her. He might be called intimidating if he didn't look so petulant.]

Well there is someone here. And I don't like people sneaking in on me!

[Her grin is met with an irritated huff and he points a finger at her accusingly.]

So are you here to kill someone or steal something?

[He couldn't think of any other reason for anyone to be climbing in windows she thought led to empty rooms. Well, maybe she could be here to see someone she wasn't supposed to or rescue a prisoner. But that sort of thing only happened in stories. Mostly.]
littlestreetcat: (content)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-21 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ This is definitely a more disappointing room to have entered with how barren it is. She catches sight of the things that might be of some value, but truth be told, most of her interest is in the coin pouch once she spots it. Bingo. Probably the most valuable thing in the room.

Now to just figure out how to snag it while he's standing there, staring at her like that. ]

Like I said, man, I didn't mean to sneak up on you.

[ She holds her hands up in an attempt to look innocent. But sneaking in through a window rarely looks innocent at all, no matter what you do afterwards. But she hasn't done anything else yet, so he can't pin anything on her! ]

Me? Steal or kill? Come on, I'm just a kid...

[ There's still amusement in her expression, but she tries to hide it and really feign that innocence. But lots of people fall for the kid thing no matter what she's done prior, so hey, worth a shot, right? ]

I just don't like doors is all.
fatherlesskind: (08)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-21 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Thing is, he can actually believe that. Maker knows, he remembers some of the trouble he got up to as a boy. He hadn't been so good at climbing in windows but sneaking in to raid the kitchens say? Or to play some prank on the brothers at the abbey? Sure.

It helps that she looks too well dressed and clean for a street thief. The children who'd picked his pockets in Denerim - that he'd only seen after they'd been caught by one of his companions - had been filthy, underfed things dressed in rags. Her clothes are strange but they still look a lot nicer than he'd expect from a thief. So maybe she really is innocent. Relatively speaking. There's nothing wrong with a few pranks after all.]

While maybe you should try and get to know them. I promise, most doors are very friendly. And helpful. And much nicer for going through than windows.

[He grins and finally steps away from his weapons.]

I'm Alistair.
littlestreetcat: (happy)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-22 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
For you, maybe. Doors are boring. At least windows are fun.

[ There's a quick little breath of relief as he totally buys her (not so great) innocent act. At least that means she's clear of trouble, for the time being. And means she can find a way to sneak off with that coin purse. She'll figure out a way before she has to go, she's sure, even if it's just to point behind him and ask "what's that" before grabbing the bag when he turns around to look. ]

Alistair? That's a weird name.

[ She scoffs a little, but offers him a smile in return. At least for a rich jerk, assuming he owns this mansion, he's not so bad. Kind of funny, actually. His reactions sure were, at least.

Folding her arms over her chest--not in a defensive way, but more to appear cool and tough--she tilts her head to one side. ]

I'm Cat.
fatherlesskind: (05)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-22 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
And that's not a weird name at all?

[He scoffs right back at her, grin widening cheerfully.]

You know what, I'm just going to get the rest of this off. [Indicating his armour.] It's kind of heavy you know and I might be used to it but after a while it just gets to be a bit much.

[As he proceeds to do just that, slowly unbuckling each piece and setting it down with the rest he asks-] So why are you really here? Do you just like sneaking in on people? Is that a hobby?
littlestreetcat: (proud)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-22 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ To be fair, it's a nickname. And not that odd of a name, thank you very much, but she lets him have it. Instead of commenting, she just nods as he continues speaking. ]

Go for it. I'm not stopping you, man.

[ Holding her hands up again, this time in more of a playful defence, she glances around the room again and moves toward the nearest little table she can find. There she plops herself down, pulling a knee up to her chin, making herself comfortable in the stranger's room. That she totally broke into. ]

You could say it's something like that, yeah. [ Smirk. ] But in this case, I woke up with no idea where I was and figured a window was safer than a door on an unfamiliar house.

[ She shrugs like it's no big deal. Like this is something that happens all the time and she's totally not worried about it at all. Even if she is a little bit worried about it. ]
fatherlesskind: (21)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-22 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, me too! I mean the 'woke up somewhere I've never seen before' bit, not the window bit. Can you imagine me trying to climb in anyone's window?

[Given that he's not that much smaller or more graceful when he's not encased in metal as when he is... no. Even on the ground floor he'd probably trip on the sill and fall on his head and that rather undermines the whole sneaky bit. Not that she's done that well at being sneaky, walking- ah, climbing in while he's here but he hadn't heard her coming and she hadn't tripped so there's that.]

I thought it might be a weird dream at first. But someone told me that it just sort of happens to everyone. Weird, right?

[Honestly, Alistair himself is worried about this too. If he hadn't run into someone from home and gotten a sort-of explanation already he'd be a lot more worried and suspicious. And probably threatening people as he tries to find the culprit. Luckily he has so instead he chatters on, pretty much unconcerned by a stranger hanging around in his room after breaking in.]

And I believe her about that but it's still kind of hard to believe.
littlestreetcat: (surprised)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-22 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Whoa, wait, what? Him too? That news catches Selina by surprise and has her perk up from her position on the table. What does that mean, if she's not the only one who's just woken up here with no idea how?

She listens as he speaks, but it's really hard to not just barge in with questions. It doesn't sound like he knows a whole lot about it though, judging from the way he talks about it and just...kind of accepts it. Selina's more of a fighter--she wants to know more before she just sits around in complacency. ]

It happens to everyone? So, what, there're other people here who've had the same thing happen to them?

[ She sits up straighter now, dropping her leg back to join the other one, hanging off the edge of the table. Her hands are at her sides, gripping the table's edges, and there's a confused but intrigued look on her face. ]

So this is normal. Just suddenly being here. Any idea who's bringing us here, or why?
fatherlesskind: (38)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-22 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dropping the last piece of armour down with the rest, Alistair rolls his shoulders in relief and throws himself down to sit on the floor.]

That's what I was told. A... friend of mine. Said that's what happened to her. And someone else told me the same thing.

[Which isn't reassuring but it's... something. Consistent maybe.]

I don't think I'd call it normal but it sounds like it happens a lot? No one has really told me who does it though.

[Or not in any way that has made sense so far. Not that much has made sense since he woke up but. Well. Lots of things don't make sense to him back home too. Shooting Cat an apologetic look he shrugs helplessly.]

Sorry. You might have more luck asking someone who's been here longer than me. Normally my job is just to hit whatever I'm pointed at.
littlestreetcat: (amused)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-23 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ His answer isn't really all that helpful, no, but it does have some consistency to it. Like the fact that she, him, and two other people have experienced the same thing. That's something, at least. Better than being the only one here.

However, she's had bad experiences in the past with people trying to knock her out and take her someplace else, so she can't shake the feeling that this is something like that. That they're here for some unpleasant reason, like to be unwilling organ donors, or something. ]

Oh well. Maybe I'll ask around, then.

[ She shrugs and takes the apologetic look in stride. It's no big deal; she'll get to the bottom of this eventually. ]

So, you're here same as me, but you've got a room? Does that mean the whole place is open to anyone who's been brought here? Or are you unsure of that, too?

[ Sorry, Alistair, she likes to tease. ]
fatherlesskind: (12)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-23 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh that one he can answer! Though she gets a mildly insulted and not at all serious look for her dig.]

We just help ourselves. That's what I was told - find an empty room and make yourself at home and it's yours. No one's tried to kick me out yet so I guess it works?

[So yeah, he's unsure of that too. What do you want from him?]

I could help you find one if you want. A room for yourself. Or I could introduce you to my- my friend. She might be able to tell you more.

[He'd originally been convinced he was trapped in a dream by a demon and had been trying find a slay the creature. It... hadn't gone as poorly as it could have luckily. If Cat is as lost as he was before he spoke to Robyn then the least he can do is offer his help. It has to be just as confusing for her and it wouldn't be right to leave someone so young to just fend for herself. Plus she seems likable even with the breaking in.]
littlestreetcat: (scheming)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-23 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Really?

[ Okay, that's kind of cool. Getting to pick any room she wants that isn't taken to stay in? Maybe this place isn't too bad. If it's giving her a place of her own, after all--warmth, a bed, shelter... She could get used to that idea. ]

I could probably use help finding a room. And maybe we could talk to your friend, too. I'd like to talk to someone who knows a bit more about the place.

[ More teasing. But really, his company isn't so bad. She could easily ditch him and go off and find a room on her own, but... Hey, he's funny, for an adult. He doesn't really act much like one. Plus she has a few more questions and he might have answers.

Sliding down from the table so they can go find a room, she gives him a questioning look. ]

One more question. What about food?
fatherlesskind: (39)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-24 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, ow! That hurts, you know. I'm wounded here!

[He puts a hand to his chest in mock distress before making a dramatic recovery and bouncing to his feet. Grabbing up his sword-belt he buckles it on as he leads the way over to the door. Not that he's really expecting to need it but he's gotten so used to having it with him all the time that it feels strange to go around unarmed.]

There's a kitchen. It has everything in there, even things I've never seen before. [It was one of the first places he'd found, before he'd even considered looking for a room. A place to sleep was important but food was even more so.] And I haven't seen a cook or any staff around. No one's told me off for stealing food yet so I think we can just take whatever we want.

[Which is a pretty nice change from being chased out of the kitchens at the abbey or scolded for raiding the stores at camp. No one back home appreciates that he's a growing boy. Or has the appetite of one.]

Whatever we're here for it seems like we're supposed to be comfortable.

[Which might just be intended to keep them from wanting to leave. But he's still glad not to have to go hungry.]
littlestreetcat: (bored)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-24 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She just snorts an amusedly scornful laugh at his mock offence and shoves her hands into the pockets of her jacket. Her eyes follow him as he buckles a sword-belt to himself, and she raises an eyebrow. Is he expecting something he hasn't mentioned yet? Some kind of danger?

Also, who uses a sword, anyway? ]

Sweet. [ She likes the sound of the kitchen and being able to take what they want. ] If this place wants us to be comfortable, I'm all for that.

[ Used to living on the street and having to struggle at least a little to get food and comfort, she's totally down for this the more she hears. Even if they might be trapped here. That's less of a concern for her--better here than out on the streets, right? ]

I might need you to show me where this kitchen is.

[ She adds as she follows him to the door. The rest, she intends to find on her own through exploration, but important stuff like a room and food, she might as well take some help with. ]
fatherlesskind: (07)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-25 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
You say that now, just wait till you find out they were just trying to lull you into complacency with nice rooms and a full belly!

[Or it could be completely benign. He really has no idea. And isn't about to refuse the comforts on offer himself.]

But the food's not poisonous so I'll take you down there once we've found you a room!

[No prizes for guessing how he'd figured out the food wasn't poisoned. And whether the possibility had occurred to him before or after eating. But it is fine and he'll happily make another trip to the kitchens to demonstrate this fact.

Out in the hallway Alistair begins knocking on and opening doors at random, checking for empty rooms. He knew there had to be some around but he didn't actually know which ones were empty and which ones weren't. In his defense he'd just moved into the first empty room he'd found when he first went looking - having a private room of his own was a fairly novel experience for him too so he hadn't been picky about it.]

Oh, ah sorry, I didn't hear- Bye. [Not empty that one. Maybe the next one?] There are supposed to be lots of empty rooms, really!
littlestreetcat: (bored)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-25 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She knows it's just a joke, but that actually puts her on edge. What if that is what's going on here? It would make sense--no real explanation for why they're here, just suddenly turning up like they'd been knocked out and dragged away from home, free room and board... There's something inherently fishy about it.

Still, she'll investigate further a little later on, when she's alone. For now, she'll try to just enjoy the moment, searching for a room and then getting some food. She should be free to all the food she wants, which will be quite the first for her! ]

Sure, sounds good.

[ Nodding, making no sign of the thoughts running through her mind, Selina just follows Alistair down the hall, watching as he knocks on doors, opens them, and finds them already taken. The further down the hall they get, the higher her brows raise and the more amusement enters her expression. Yeah, she's glad she let him tag along. This is funny. ]

Really? Because it's not seeming that way. Like, at all. [ Folding her arms, she quirks one brow. ] Maybe on a different floor? Assuming there are rooms like these on the other floors, anyway.
fatherlesskind: (33)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-26 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, like you have room to talk, Miss Barges-in-on-people-unannounced!

[He sniffs and sticks his nose in the air haughtily, unsuccessfully trying not to let his own amusement show. These things always happen to him and always at the worst times.]

But fine! If you think you can do better we'll go upstairs and you can try.

[Knowing his luck she'll pick an empty room first try and then get all smug at him. Which still won't change the fact she climbed in his window without even checking if anyone was there or what they were doing. So he's still definitely doing better than she is here. Giving up on the current floor he heads for the stairs instead.]

Come on, let's see if you can do any better.
littlestreetcat: (proud)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-28 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, at least I didn't barge in using the door.

[ Because barging in through the window is so much better, right? Right.

Smirking away, she follows him to the stairs and starts making her way up, not waiting on him. He'll catch up, she's sure, and now she's kind of excited to find a room to call her own. It's not often she gets that sort of thing. ]

Betcha I do better than you!

[ She calls back down the stairs as she reaches the next floor and looks around. Hm. Any of the doors could have someone behind them or not. It's hard to tell, so she goes up to the closest door quietly and puts an ear to it. She listens for a few seconds and, upon hearing shuffling on the other side, moves along to the next door.

It takes a few doors, but eventually she finds one that remains quiet, at which point she swings the door open to reveal it...completely empty. Her smirk takes on a proud little tilt to it as she turns to Alistair. ]

Ha! What'd I tell ya?
fatherlesskind: (37)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-29 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's worse, not better.

[Seriously. Coming through windows announced is worse that coming through doors unannounced. So no. He's still doing better than her.

Alistair rolls his eyes as she charges ahead, catching up when she's got her ear to a door. It's his turn to follow along as she moves down the hall checking doors until finally stopping at one. And of course the first door she opens leads to an empty room. The Maker enjoys laughing at his expense too much for anything else to happen.]

Right. Just because I didn't want to eavesdrop on people. That's rude you know.

[He may have lost the sort-of bet but he's not going to do so gracefully.

Following her inside he stops in the middle of the room and gestures dramatically about, turning to Cat with a bright smile.]

What did I say? A place all to yourself!

[He offered to help her find a room and look, one has been found. That counts, right?]
littlestreetcat: (happy)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2015-11-30 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, pfft. [ She makes a face at him. ] I wasn't eavesdropping. I was listening to see if there was actually anyone in there. More polite than barging in through their door.

[ Eyebrows raise, amused, she can't help but tease him back yet again about his walking in on people. He's a sore loser, apparently, and that's always fun to poke at. However, as he goes all dramatic about the room, she can't help but smile a little more genuinely. ]

Yeah, it's pretty cool. [ She nods to the room, looking around at it. She's playing it cool here, but she's actually pretty excited. ] I've never had a room to myself before. Privacy. A girl could get used to it.
fatherlesskind: (12)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-30 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
I know exactly what you mean. ...About the privacy, not about what girls can get used to.

[Just in case that wasn't clear. And speaking of having a place to herself, she might want a chance to get settled in. Or to just try and make sense of this place in relative peace. He'd certainly needed some time for that. Stepping back towards the door, Alistair asks-]

Do you want some of that privacy now? I can show you where the kitchen is later - you know where to find me. [He stops and wags a finger at her reprovingly.] But you have to promise to come through the door this time alright? And to knock first. Without eavesdropping on me.

[He's so finicky sometimes.]
