[ It isn't Ferelden, that much she can tell. Robyn has spent her entire life in the place, knows its trees and air and people like the back of her hand. Not once has she traveled outside its borders (she's been to the Deep Roads, for Andraste's sake, but has never stepped foot outside of their fair kingdom). Well... that is, until now. Until they'd been discussing what would surely be the final battle, the clash against the Darkspawn hordes, against the fearsome Archdemon itself, and then...

This. She'd been alarmed, to say the least, but not panicked. After everything, it's hard to lose your cool at a simple change of scenery. All the same, she notices the plants, catches voices in the air that are distinctly foreign, and has to wonder.

Where am I?

She spends no time trying to figure that out, of course. The Warden, bow slung over her back, but dagger at her hip, moves quietly through the grounds. It'd be easiest to just speak with one of the natives and she's always favored a non-violent approach, when possible, but these are extraordinary circumstances. She hasn't felt this upended in a long time and it has to take some preparation. Not the usual (traps and such), but stealthy observation of the land around her and, if she's lucky, whatever people may be camped nearby.

"Camped," she thinks, until she comes across the mansion. The brunette stops dead, eyes wide and shocked; it hadn't seemed like any part of a town or city, but here is someone's estate, clearly, a bizarre structure that rises up from the grass like a jarring behemoth. ]

Maker's breath. [ But perhaps she's gaping for a moment too long... ]

adorable :D

[ That's not a curse Brennan has heard a lot of in this place, so it's something that instantly catches his attention from where he's seated nearby, a training dummy set up much like the ones Cassandra had so often kept company with in Skyhold. Here, it's set a bit farther from the mansion, enough to give him a little privacy when he seeks it. He'd been settled on a tree stump with a whetstone, working on the edge of his axe more out of habit than anything.

His head comes up at the sudden appearance of the unfamiliar woman, his eyes intently skimming over her with curiosity before he pushes himself to his feet, careful not to startle her. ]

Are you lost, my lady?
heroica: (you can call it what you want)

huff

[personal profile] heroica 2015-08-14 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[ So much for her attentive scouting. Robyn starts at the sound of a voice, hand moving to her hip, but she slows; he's clearly not about to attack, and if he is, she'll have to put trust into her reaction time.

So, the young woman eyes him uneasily instead, keeping a safe distance. ]

That is my assumption as I can't make sense of the land. [ He doesn't sound Ferelden, either, but... he does look and sound more to what she's used to (a wide variety) than some of the others she'd noted earlier. ]

Can you tell me where I am?
outofthebreach: Casual, Fond, Sass, (001)

that just ups the adorable, you realize

[personal profile] outofthebreach 2015-08-14 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He holds up his hands to show he's unarmed, having tucked the axe away at his waist once more when he stood. He doesn't approach, letting her keep her safe distance, and he's in light leather armor today rather than his plate - not something that seems to be required so often around here, he's found in relief. ]

They call this place Wonderland. [ He offers the name with a wry smirk, motioning to the house. ] I'm not sure there is much about it that makes sense to anyone, I'm afraid.
heroica: ('cause what's in a name)

gOD DAMMIT

[personal profile] heroica 2015-08-14 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She, too, is in light armor (leather, fit for a rogue) and notes his. He's a warrior of some kind or another, not dressed in the strange, unfamiliar garb of other strangers in this - ]

"Wonderland?" [ Well, it's straightforward, though the place has yet to inspire wonder. Robyn glances quickly up at the mansion and back down, frowning slightly. ] Then, you don't live here?
outofthebreach: Casual, Fond, (055)

:D

[personal profile] outofthebreach 2015-08-14 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Permanently? I hope not.

[ He chuckles at the question and drops his hands again, relaxing somewhat when she seems content to talk rather than attack. That's always a nice change of pace. ]

This place has a tendency of... "borrowing" people from their worlds for a time. People come from all manner of strange realms, caught up by whatever magic has created and sustains this place. Most it sends back to the moment they left, after a while - and none the wiser, or so I'm told.
heroica: (i was born in a big grey cloud)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-08-14 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You seem awfully complacent for someone "borrowed" by a place.

[ Don't take it personally; she's on edge and completely off-kilter from this whole experience. You might be, too, if you had been about to fight an Archdemon. ]

"It" takes us and tosses us back... to what end? Where in Thedas are we, exactly?
altarwolf: (and my animals frightened and sickened)

[personal profile] altarwolf 2015-08-15 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Leave your jaw hanging like that, you may have difficulty pulling it shut again.

[Quick to forget her own hardships as a newcomer in favor of teasing those who arrive after her, Morrigan approaches Robyn with a smug look on her face. She doesn't think she looked so foolish when she first arrived, doesn't think she's ever looked foolish in her life, but in truth she's felt exceedingly foolish for most of her recent stay in Wonderland. She's already pretty done with being jerked around, has lost the upper hand she cherishes, and is grasping for it in small doses wherever she can get it. Like making fun of the new people. That's productive.

She doesn't recognize Robyn Cousland for who she is; she's not Morrigan's Warden, never was.
]

You gape as if you have never seen a building that defies all logic before.
heroica: (everybody lets you down)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-08-15 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ And there it is. Finally, the great relief of the sound of one of her own. Roby relaxes visibly, even admitting a wearied smile. ]

I have no doubt that you've seen many more of them than I. [ Thank goodness for Morrigan. The Warden glances back to the building, frowning once again, then casts her gaze to the mage. ]

Is it only us? Have you found any of the others?
belovedson: (okay so this isn't great)

[personal profile] belovedson 2015-08-15 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[It might have been more than one; the people from Neal's world have this habit of keeping certain truths from him, which has happened often enough for Neal to prefer bad news--usually. It'd be better if he didn't keep hearing about crap like this from Henry, but either way, it means Neal's got an idea of what August is talking about now.]

He's here in Wonderland too. [Might as well get that happy piece of information out there.] I don't know exactly when he's been pulled from, but--I don't think he's actively trying to do anything malicious.

[Unless cleaving himself from the dagger counts, which Neal knows in his gut that it probably does. Regardless, he looks up and down the hall, as if he expects the man in question to appear now that they're talking about him.] I doubt he'd go after you here though. My father pulls a lot of crap, but there's a reason behind it. Whatever he thinks you can tell him about back home doesn't matter. When people leave here, they don't remember it, so it wouldn't do him any good to learn about it.
iwasinphuket: (know the truth)

[personal profile] iwasinphuket 2015-08-16 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's probably better just to stay away from him anyway. [It's not like he hasn't incurred Gold's wrath, after all. He doesn't have as much faith in Gold's ability not to be petty just for the sake of it as Neal does. He's fairly sure Gold had enjoyed the thought of torture more than he might have if their history had been different.]

It doesn't matter either way because the Author isn't here, and the information is no use here.
altarwolf: (theyve taken more than they have given)

[personal profile] altarwolf 2015-08-16 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Morrigan is momentarily baffled by the familiarity this stranger instantly treats her to, but it only takes a second before she's just exasperated. Yet another person she doesn't know who knows her. Another from her future, most likely. She sighs and puts a hand to her temple.]

I must warn you now, stranger, this place has powerful magic that affects location as well as time itself. You must be yet another from my future, whom I have yet to meet in my own time. 'Twas only mere days after the ending of the Fifth Blight before I found myself in this place.

You will be glad to know, I am sure, that the Inquisitor himself is also here, as is the show dog at his heels known as Dorian. However, we are the only ones from Thedas.
belovedson: (we're doing it this way)

[personal profile] belovedson 2015-08-16 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That's easier said than done; this place is smaller than you might think. [Granted, ten floors of mansion plus some pretty expansive outdoors do make it possible, but Neal doesn't think August should count on his luck being that good. And it's not faith either, at least not exactly. It's more the idea that for the most part, within Wonderland Rumplestiltskin has been trying not to do things that would piss Neal off or drive Belle away, and torturing August would qualify.

But there are only so many risks Neal's willing to take, which is why he opts to not correct August in regards to the author. Hey, the guy's technically right. As far as Neal knows, the man who was the Author in August's time hasn't shown his face. But he's also wrong, because Henry's got that power now, and like hell is Neal going to put his son at risk like that.]

Well, you're not going to want to stay on the eighth floor then--except that's where pretty much everyone from our world is. Regina, me, Belle, Robin, Henry...

[And here Neal frowns, because in his head, there's potentially someone worse than his father hanging around.]

And Zelena.
heroica: ('cause what's in a name)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-08-16 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, that's a lot of things. Baffling, for one. Inquisitor? Dorian? And the way she's being looked at is cold, even for Morrigan. ]

I - [ Robyn looks at the other woman with more uncertainty now, but there's one thing she can't ignore. ] ... The Blight is over? How? We - The last thing I remember is meeting with Riordan, he told us -

[ Er. Well, Warden secrets. ]

We're meant to fight the Archdemon tomorrow. That is, before... this.
iwasinphuket: (know the truth)

[personal profile] iwasinphuket 2015-08-16 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[He might not have known everything that happened while he was a boy again, since his father and the other adults made a point of shielding him from the worst of it, but it had been hard to miss Zelena's presence, even as a boy. And he knows about the role she played in what happened to Neal.]

That's...quite the combination. I imagine there aren't a lot of family dinners.
outofthebreach: Casual, Sass, (017)

[personal profile] outofthebreach 2015-08-16 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the moment you find me the correct person to blame, my lady, I will be happy to have some very strong words with them.

[ He just got done with that actually. Well. Sort of. And that hadn't even been the real threat. ]

We're not in Thedas. At least not as far as I've been able to discern. Although I was hoping that might be your place of origin - most people here aren't from Thedas at all. Is that a Ferelden accent I detect?
heroica: (you can call me anything you want)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-08-16 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Fair enough. Somewhat mollified, she thinks: At least I've been in worse situations than this. ]

They aren't from Thedas? [ An odd thing to say. ] Are we in the Fade, somehow?

[ But she doesn't remember anything that may have led up to this. It's possible, she supposes, that it's all another strange dream. ]

Oh - Yes, it is. [ Robyn smiles, distracted. ] But yours isn't, I think.
outofthebreach: Casual, Fond, (027)

[personal profile] outofthebreach 2015-08-16 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
No, we're in some other realm entirely. A much smaller one, I'm afraid. Although this place has something similar to the Fade of it's own - they call it the Mirror Side. it's our opposite. A backwards reflection where everything is reversed, or so I've been told.

[ Realizing he's being rude, he ducks into a polite bow that would do any Orlesian proud. he's had lots of practice, of late. ]

My apologies for forgetting my manners, my lady. Inquisitor Brennan Trevelyan, at your service. Formerly of Ostwick, if the accent hasn't given me away already.

I'm not certain he can hear you, here.

[It's the turn of phrase that grabs Dorian's attention-- otherwise, he might not have thought much of the girl he saw gaping up at the mansion as he helped himself to a walk in the gardens, a book neatly tucked under one arm. He very well may have kept going, being too new to be of much use to anyone else who'd only recently arrived, in many respects, but the mention of the Maker gives him pause, and he offers her a curious smile as he backtracks, approaching her instead of heading back towards the fountain.]

You look a touch out of your element. Might I assist?
heroica: (in this brief hole of a town)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-08-16 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ As an opposite, Robyn had practice as a girl, but less as a young woman (whose interests involved archery and roguish training rather than ladylike formalities) and as a Warden. Hurriedly, a little rusty in the gesture, she curtsies, straightening to peer curiously at him. ]

I suspected the Free Marches, but... [ He's clearly a nobleman, and despite her origins, she seems (likely) anything but. Fairly conscious of the state of her dress and how exhausted she must seem, she tucks hair behind her ear, clears her throat, and says: ] My lord, I am Robyn Cousland of the Grey Wardens, formerly of Highever.

[ No longer. Her family is dead and she is a Warden; who she was before isn't very important. ]

But, the Inquisition? Of the Chantry, you mean? I... didn't realize there was an Inquisitor.
heroica: (and live without shame)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-08-16 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Debatable, depending on how strong your faith is. It isn't a theological debate she's after, though, and she turns to another stranger who approaches casually as you like, book in hand.

Not Antivan or Ferelden, or... from the Marches... ]

I am, and you might. [ She smiles faintly. ] If you can tell me where I am and how I came to be here.

[ An important first step. She'll introduce herself in a moment; courtesies are taking a back seat to concerning mysteries right now. ]

Do you live in that manor?

The Warden?

[ It comes as such a surprise that all the training Josie's been drilling into his skull for the past months goes right out the window and he nearly topples onto his face before he straightens again, eyes wide and a little startled. ]

Your Majesty, I'm sorry I didn't recognize you. Or... expect to find you here. Although I would think it's at least an improvement from the Deep Roads.

[ Although then the rest of her words catch up with him and he hesitates, because his Warden definitely knew of him, as they'd exchanged correspondence. She'd seemed surprisingly well informed for being in the depths of Darkspawn territory. ]

I... yes. That would be me. It's a more recent development in the grand state of things. [ Sort of. ]
heroica: (i still remain the same)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-08-17 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
What? I - No. [ Instinctively she speaks and acts, shaking her hair, confusion budding quickly. ] You must have me confused with someone else.

[ But, even as she says it, she isn't sure; it isn't as if there are many Wardens to confuse her with in the first place, let alone female ones. She explains, then, quickly: ]

I'm not royalty and, blessedly, I've only been once to the Deep Roads.

[ And what an experience that had been. She considers him, brows knit, bearing a slight frown. Something is wrong. Could this be a trick? ]

Forgive me, I hadn't realized the Inquisition was still... active.

While I certainly have something resembling answers, I'm afraid they may not be as satisfactory as you might like.

[At least 'Wonderland' doesn't mean much to anyone from Thedas apart from what they find here.]

I suppose I do, now-- at least temporarily. I arrived not too long ago, myself. There are other residents who've been here a fair sight longer-- they call this place Wonderland.

[For as grand as the name hints at being, he seems woefully underwhelmed.]

To the point. [ She casts her gaze again to the mansion, to its grounds and gardens, thoroughly perplexed. ] And what do "they" mean to do with us?

[ A fair question, she thinks; there had been no ransom or demands, no initial appearance of her - their? - captors. She doesn't sense any darkspawn, either, a fact which makes her both relieved and incredibly uneasy. ]

I've never heard of it. [ Not once, in all her studies. She sighs shortly, looking to Dorian. ] ... This is real, isn't it?
