Winding up in Wonderland had not been anywhere in Noah's plans for his brilliant and bright future. It lacked the technology he craved, the formal education he'd been told was most needed, and definitely lacked in the friends he had survived so much with.

Also so far it seemed to lack a determined and dedicated serial killer, as far as he knew, so there was that at least in Wonderland's favor.

Most days he can be found with his door cracked open enjoying the benefits of the closet with a large screen television, surround sound, and whatever "new" games he could get from the closets for the myriad of systems he'd tinkered with and had concurrently running to the tv.

Not that he's antisocial, he's just video social a lot of the time. The cracked door though is obviously an invite.

So I know I'm not the only one with a less than stellar lifestyle history before coming to Wonderland. Not the personal kind but dealing with apocalypse, plagues, and my own personal saga, serial killer carnage.

Come tell a story. Talk about the drama. This isn't therapy sharing but bored teen hoping to have a clue what might be coming.

[Georgia tilts her head, frowning thoughtfully under her sunglasses as she considers the question.] Are you asking because you're curious or because you're trying to predict future events?

[Words. Words would be good. The kind that responded to a question asked.

Except Noah is just staring at the tiny monitor, gaping at the image.]

When did you get here? I mean, what? Since when? Did someone ask for you out of the closet?

[Okay he totally never tried that... except twice.]

[Well that wasn't the reaction she was expecting. Her sunglasses, as usual, make it hard for her to express much emotion without really trying at it, but she raises her eyebrows.]

...I take it you're a fan.

[She doesn't have as many as Shaun or Buffy does, but her following is still pretty decent. Especially since her coverage of the election began. That seems to be the most reasonable explanation for the way he's staring. He's from her world, and he follows her blog.]

I've been here almost half a year, and no, no one asked for me out of the closets. That doesn't work. You can get animals, but I wouldn't recommend it. Apparently it sometimes gets... out of hand.

[Noah hasn't gotten out much since he arrived, mostly keeping his head down and working on surviving the events as they came at them. Two of them since he arrived a little over a month earlier, but he couldn't have laid so low as to miss this, could he?]

Well yes. I've been a fan of yours for as many years as we've been friends. Your biggest fan, and you know it, Audrey. Well, okay, so there were times maybe it didn't seem like it but I swear. Biggest fan here. I'll totally get a number one friend foam finger to prove it.

Wait, but how even? How could I miss you? I've been checking out every face I pass, and ... [Distraction moment./] What do you mean out of hand?

[Considering Georgia spends a lot of time holed up in her office writing and mostly posts to essays when she posts to the network... it's very possible. She's not that hard to find, but she doesn't exactly make an effort to be noticed most of the time.

She arches an eyebrow.]

My name's not Audrey. I'm Georgia Mason. And I have no idea who you are.

[She'll get back to the other part later. This seems like it should be dealt with first.]

[Noah opens his mouth, closes it. Lifting one hand, a finger raised and yet, for a time, there's no words.]

Am I asking... I mean, if I asked for you to take off the glasses, would I be violating some rule? I mean, if it's like a green ribbon around the neck type thing, then pretend I never asked.

Because really? Right now? You're like seriously a doppelganger for my friend.

So I assumed. Unless Audrey is some sort of weird pet name, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt on that one.

[She tilts her head considering the question. Her eyes hurt in the light, but the office uses low watt bulbs. She'll be all right for a minute or two. Usually she saves eye contact for when she needs to throw someone off balance, but it doesn't seem like she'll need to work at that, should she need it with this kid.

She tugs her sunglasses off. Under them, her eyes are flat and black, like shark eyes, or more accurately, zombie eyes. Fully dilated pupils will do that to a person. Unless his friend also has Retinal Kellis-Amberlee, she suspects the difference will be pretty striking.]

She could be related to me, I suppose. I was adopted, and it's never struck me as important to figure out who my biological family was. [There's only one family member who matters. No one tied to her by blood could ever come as close to her as Shaun, if they're even alive.] Or, more likely, this could be more alternate universe bullshit. What year is it?

It would make for an adorable nickname though, but I never said that because adorable and Audrey in the same sentence might get me thwocked.

[Rambling on even as the shades came off. He only asked to confirm the twinsies thing. What he hadn't counted on is the reality.

For a second he merely stares before speaking.]

Okay, one? I hope that doesn't hurt, because that's really kind of cool. I mean, really. Are you like an X-Men or something?

[Because his first thought is totally Gambit, except without the red... and shorter, and not Cajun.]

Definitely twins thing going on. Except the eyes. Also, not even fair Audrey has an alternate universe and I don't but it was twenty sixteen when I found myself traipsing through the gardens here.

It does hurt. That's why I wear sunglasses. I'm pretty sure "debilitating migraines" doesn't qualify as a superpower, though I do have amazing night vision. Retinal Kellis-Amberlee. Makes life all kinds of fun.

[She slips her sunglasses back on. This kid is a treat. Nice to see that her body double is no more fond of being adorable than Georgia is.]

If it's 2016 then she's more likely the alternate universe version of my biological mother. It's 2040 now. She died during the Rising, as far as I know.

[He actually winces.]

Well that sucks. Shit, I'm sorry. Though, depending on the run, they did say that Gambit and several mutants like Cyclops suffered debili... You don't care.

[That much he is used to, about people not caring though he will still find himself rambling.]

Never heard of it, but will try the library which will likely give me nothing as I've found. Unless I want to read the fictional account of our very not fictional new home.

[But then there's years, and Audrey even being a mom which made him grin at the thought.]

Okay one, sorry. Again. I mean, I don't know what the Rising is but that just doesn't even sound like anything anyone wants to go through. Two, the idea of Audrey's alternative daughter? Kind of the coolest thing about this place. Even over the closets.

I don't care. [She confirms. She isn't one for pretending to be interested when she isn't. She isn't one for pretending at all.] Not really interested in pre-Rising comics. Real life's exciting enough.

[She nods, the closest thing she'll show to approval, at his initiative in going to look it up. She's generally happy to answer questions, but she won't stop someone from doing their own research.

And that answers the question she wasn't asking. In 2016, he wouldn't be pre-Rising if he were from her world. And unless he was living in a zombie-less hole he'd sure as hell know what it was.]

In a word, zombies. The world became infected with Kellis-Amberlee and it cured us of the common cold, cancer, and staying dead. The first two were intentional, the second one an unpleasant side-effect. And I am not Audrey's daughter. [Her voice takes on a bit of an edge.] Nor am I her twin, or her alternate self or anything else. We may appear similar, but that is where the relation ends. Are we clear?

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Probably not even comic books left, are there?

[He just assumes if the world is busy dealing with zombies, they're not worrying about what the X-Men are up to, or the Avengers.]

So, the same thing that caused... [He gestures at eye level, nodding.] Got it. Maybe. You're not, are you? I mean, if you are that's cool, but that's a whole new level I never imagined.

[Again there's that wince, and a nod.]

Right. Didn't mean any offense by it. Never to be mentioned again. Gotcha. [Said as he touched two fingers to his temple in a salute.]

[It's possible she went a little too hard on that line. Of course he didn't mean offense by it. But family is a complicated thing with her. She never knew or wanted to know her biological family and she hates her adopted parents. The only family who's ever mattered was her brother, and he's a whole other kind of complicated that she won't be discussing. The idea of adding more people to the unit she and Shaun have formed, even just theoretical people, is not something she's interested in contemplating.

But zombies and comics. Safer topics to land on.]

I am not a zombie, no, and if I were, it would not be cool. This is a reservoir condition. I'm infected, of course. Everyone in my world is. But it isn't live, and it's no more dangerous than any of my other body fluids. [Which is to say, do not touch, but most people don't go around trying to poke her in the eye anyway.]

Of course there are still comic books. People love a good distraction. Mostly digital or web-based, of course, but they're there. I'm just not personally very interested.

[Noah went over lines, and he knew it. You didn't learn things though if you didn't try, and he was always trying.]

Well, I didn't mean that offensively. If you were this cognitive and it was that way, that would be cool. Sucks that everyone's paying for them, what? By passing FDA regulations and rushing something to the market? Something that worries me in my world and it hasn't gone to that. Yet. God, yet.

[Because who knew. His world is one "cure" away from Night of the Walking Dead with the way they were playing with things.]

See, they never show that in the movies and shows, you know? It's all you can do for survival, constant betrayal, friend is suddenly the enemy and there's not even time for a leisurely bubble bath nonetheless comics and entertainment. Also, the grid. Same held and maintained or new and improved by the kinds with minds of their own and inability to let go of their net?

[Noah definitely falls in that category.]

[This kid's a babbler. Joy. She sifts through all that and latches onto what seems like the actual essence of what he's saying.]

It wasn't like in the movies. For one thing, we'd all seen the movies, and we had the internet. Dead start rising, the first thing you try is the headshot. The second thing you do is blog about what worked and what didn't. Casualties were still high, but society didn't crumble. It just changed.

But this was all before I was born. I only know of the pre-Rising world second-hand, and a lot of it just seems alien to me.

[There's one in every group, and damn George's luck running into one that had thought he knew her.]

See, that's the part I never get. Who doesn't go for the headshot? Yet a friend didn't go for it. Thankfully that person I know who looks nothing like you and who you don't at all make me think about, knew to go for the headshot.

[Because talking about shooting people was normal? He had to remember sometimes that not everyone lived with a killer in their midst. Oddly enough, he thinks maybe this is definitely one person it won't phase.]

What year did it happen? I mean, there's a lot I want to ask, but that seems a bad choice to get that face from you again.

[She might be making that face again.]

Don't lie to get around my discomfort. You can talk about her and acknowledge the similarity. Just don't act like it makes us related.

[Not that it was much of a lie. It still rubs her wrong, to have it phrased as though the truth might be something she can't handle.]

It started in 2014, and I don't mind questions about it. Why was your friend shooting people in the head? You clearly don't come from somewhere where zombies are a problem.
