I'm okay.

[ She manages to smile just a little, but it doesn't quite reach her eyes. ]

I'll explain everything, but there's something you should know first.

[ She swallows and clears her throat. ]

I don't...know you. I know you're important to me, but that's it.

[ At that, she pulls the pictures she has out of her back pocket. It goes everywhere with her and she passes it over. It's clearly them in happier times, smiling together at a lake. ]

This is the only reason why. I can feel it, that you're my family. I've wanted to meet you for a long time.

[ Roman's heart drops to his stomach suddenly, and there's a clear look of panic in his eyes now. She was the one who knew stuff. Not everything, of course, because she'd lost her memory, too, but...she could tell him things. She made him feel safe. ]

They took your memory again?

No, not again. I just...haven't remembered you yet.

[ She can see him panicking and immediately she reaches out, her hand going to his shoulder and squeezing gently. It's instinctive. That part hasn't gone anywhere, it seems. And this meeting is so different compared to when she met her brother with Sheperd....which she doesn't remember yet. Whatever. ]

When people are brought here, it can be at different points in their timelines. I think I'm from before we ever met. What's your name?

Oh. [ It's so strange and confusing, but her hand on his shoulder feels familiar, at least. She's always trying to comfort him like that. She always takes care of him. ] I'm Roman. But...you told me I used to Ian. Ian Kruger. And your name was...Alice. But then you changed it to Remi.

[ He shakes his head, closing his eyes tightly for a moment and drawing in a sharp breath. ] Our mother changed it.

[ He's just told her more about her life than she's figured out in months, and her eyes widen.

Alice Kruger.

She's Alice. And she's in Wonderland, but she'll think about that later. She frowns instead. ]

Our mother changed our names? Is she...is she alive?

She's not...she's not our real mother. She took us away from the orphanage and she did...terrible things to us.

[ He lifts his head swiftly, and his eyes are a little red. ]

She did this to me, she took my memories away because she couldn't control me anymore.

Roman did...did our mother do this to me?

[ She means the tattoos in general, and she sort of gestures at her entire body. If she did this to Roman, she probably did it to Jane but why? God, this is all so...she has no words. ]

Come on, let's sit.

[ Gently she takes his hand, guiding him to a few chairs out of the way. ]

I think you told me that she...made you do it.

[ He looks down at their joined hands, studying it, as if still trying to wrap his mind around the concept of human touch. There's so much he doesn't remember, but it feels like this was always a rare thing for him. When they sit, he has to ask. ]

Is Kurt here? He's the last thing I remember.

Yeah. Yeah, he's...we...

[ Jane clears her throat and looks at Roman. ]

We live together. His sister is here, too but you've never met her, even before our mother erased your memories.

[ She has another question though, eyes looking at him imploringly. ]

Who's our mother? What's her name?

You and Kurt...oh. So Oliver isn't here?

[ It just slips out, he has no idea he shouldn't have said that, probably. ]

Our mother - you call her Shepherd.

Wait. Who?

[ wHAT. No. No, no, no. This is not what she wants to hear. If there's someone else named Oliver, it means there's no Kurt, and she doesn't want to know what that means.

And then he says their mother is Shepherd and she's pretty sure she's going to pass out because what the fuck is happening right now. ]

There's no one else. Kurt...Kurt and I have been here for nine...maybe ten months. I can't remember. Time doesn't actually move here. When we're here, time is frozen for us back home.

[ Explaining this is better than focusing on everything else that came out of Roman's mouth. ]

[ Oh. He said something wrong. ]

Um. He's...a friend. I think. He gave you flowers, but...if you and Kurt. It...it doesn't mean anything, right?

[ He should probably be the one reassuring her, and yet. ]

[ Jane closes her eyes for a second, trying to remind herself: it's going to be okay. It'll all be okay. She believes what Kurt told her before, and there's a future, she knows it. ]

I guess we'll see. This place has a way of pulling people together. But it might not mean anything.

[ She tries to smile reassuringly at him, squeezing his hand again. ]

You said the last thing you remember is being somewhere with Kurt?

[ It seems like it really upset her when mentioned Oliver. Or...anyone other than Kurt, he guesses, so he won't do that again. ]

Yeah. He brought me a beer in my cell. Told me beer was good for me and...talked to me about stuff. I think he had a really bad childhood, too.

[ Jane can't help but laugh a little at the beginning. ]

Yeah. Sounds like him.

[ Then, she's serious again, nodding. ]

He did. But he didn't let it define him, Roman. Just like we don't have to let a terrible childhood make us terrible adults. We're in control of that now. Not Shepherd. And this place is insane, it's...impossible, but it's also not there. We're free, here Roman. At least...as free as we can be without ever leaving.

[ okay, that was a bad point but: ]

Kurt and I live here. Together. We can't...have that right now at home.

[ He's digesting all of this carefully, thinking more deeply about Shepherd and what he knows about her already. Everything his sister is saying about being here with Kurt is interesting, to say the least. ]

You're happy here.

[ Jane looks down and thinks about the statement before slowly nodding. ]

This place isn't always great. It can be dangerous. But Kurt and I have each other and that makes me happier than anything.

[ But - something's been missing, and she gingerly reaches out and takes Roman's hand in hers. ]

I've wanted to meet you so much, Roman. I thought I didn't have any family, but I have you.
