[YES!!! OUTSIDE! LET'S GO OUTSIDE.]

I am Groot!

[Groot beams at her and gestures up. Rooftop sounds good, he would always rather be outside than inside. Insides have lots of carpet and long corridors and feet. Outside only had scary birds to fend off and sometimes rain. And he still preferred those things to feet.] I am Groot. [He pats her face to show that he is grateful. You are a good carrying person, Gamora. He approves.]

[oakay]

[Clambering his way up the Billy person, he latches around his upper arm and points onward. He's not sure where he's going but if they are going and not staying then odds are, they will find more things.]

I am Groot. [He clings to the fabric of the shirt and -- Oooh. Soft. Nice. Do you use fabric softener? He would like to keep this shirt when you're done being his ride. He nuzzles it lightly.] I am Groot.

[cranston]

[ Billy's a smart kid. He's starting to figure things out. Things like, "this tree guy can't actually say anything besides his own name." So, without asking any more questions, he starts walking in the direction Groot pointed. ]

I was on my way out to the garden. I don't know if that's where you wanna go, but... I'm just gonna head in that direction and you can stop me if you want me to turn or something.

[ Moving slowly, so as not to dislodge the passenger on his arm, Billy heads down towards the doors leading outside. ]

[oakay]

[Nod. Nod. Nod.

Outside is good. He likes outside. If they can't find his team-mates then at least they can chase squirrels. That's always a fun thing to do, birds too. He turns to his ride and frowns in a curious manner, intending to ask if he also enjoys chasing small rodents.] I am Groot? [Would you care to partake in some squirrel harassment, dear friend?]

[blackraith]

Fuck.

[The Red Court.... Bianca's house up in flames. Justine and Susan held captive. Harry's life shattered. Justine had come out okay, but Susan... hadn't fared well at all. And the less said on that the better.

But that had been years ago. Of course, the fact that her hair wasn't stripped of all pigmentation spoke to that. The slightly addled look to her around him while he's barely using any of his powers at all speaks to that. He knows that he could reach out and touch her and she would be his and he could have her again.

But it would burn. And he would deserve it.]

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

If Lara was here, I would think this was some cruel joke. [But she's not. He's already checked.] That means whatever powers this place thinks this is funny.

[cranston]

[ Sadly, Billy doesn't get the nuances of every individual "I am Groot," so he thinks Groot is asking a completely different question. Something more along the lines of, "why are you going out to the garden?" ]

I need to get some lettuce for my pet turtle. I could probably find some in the kitchen, but I think fresh is better. Right?

[blackraith]

How so? You've appeared, haven't you? It doesn't look like it's improbable at all.

[They don't have to have originated from Wonderland, after all.]

My name is Thomas Raith. You? [Wouldn't you like to know?]

[oakay]

[Turtle? Ah yes, a shell goblin. He could kick your shell goblin's ass. Clearly Billy needs to just feed Groot that lettuce. He likes lettuce. If Lettuce is popcorn. And he's pretty sure those two are one in the same. Right?] I am Groot.

[He points at himself. He is better, you should be looking to feed him.]

[cranston]

Yeah, I know.

[ He's pretty sure Groot's doing more than just telling Billy his name, but he doesn't really know what else to say when he doesn't know what it is he's really saying. ]

You can meet my turtle if you want. His name is Zack the turtle.

[blackraith]

I'll be on the look out for that then.

[His tone is pretty nonchalant. She's more than welcome to try and prove her point, but he's not the type to be caught unawares. Unless it's by his stupid, cheating, arrogant, asshole of a father. For all his relaxed stance, he's ready for anyone to try something.

A lifetime at the White Court was a good education, if nothing else.]

Certainly. Only idiots and fools let their guard down in hostile territory. [He flashes her a sexy grin.] Besides, all ladies like a man with a big gun.

[ainteasy]

[ linguistic barrier or no, groot's enthusiasm is unmistakable. his rough branch-like hands tap her cheek gamora allows herself a well-natured wince -- almost as though embarrassed by the show of affection. merely another liberty allowed him but to few others.

so! she doubles back to the stairwell and skips the remaining few floors, vying straight for the rooftop exit. the day is bright and welcoming; she squints against the sun the moment they step into it together. ]

You have to be careful. [ it's a fruitless warning. she knows it. ] No adventuring too close to the ledge.

[oakay]

[Zack? Groot would like to defeat this Zack and claim his shell to give as a trophy. And his lettuce. Groot nods his head in agreement.] I am Groot.

[He climbs up his arm and finally sets himself on the shoulder, looking eagerly ahead. His ride seems like a nice enough guy, he hopes he too will be impressed when he defeats his shell goblin.]

[oakay]

[It's very bright and it takes a few to adjust his eyes to it, once he can finally see in the blinding sun, he spies some birds on the ledge and his excitement peaks. He nods eagerly at her that no, of course not, he would never stray near the edge.

Leaping off her shoulder and using his vines to smooth his landing, he takes of running at full speed towards the bird army.]

I AM GROOOOOOOOT!

[He flails his arms around and yells until the birds all fly away. Groot stops at the ledge, not too close, and turns back with a grin. See? Not too close to the ledge at all.]

[ hanging back, she suffers a burst of quasi-maternal delight when witnessing his fierce charge. little though he is, he's undeniably primal. maybe she should worry more -- the thought nags, briefly, before gamora shelves it in favour of pride.

take that, stinking birds.

gamora's laughter is brief and sharp. like gunfire -- or steel on steel. but she soon after follows him to the near ledge and takes a graceful seat. instead of dangling her legs over the side, she turns her back to the mansion's grounds and sits facing the rooftop's interior. better, she thinks, to keep an eye on him.

a soft hiss to get his attention before she jerks her head lazily toward a fat pigeon some fifteen feet away. ] Can you sneak up on it? Go silently, if you can.

[oakay]

[Sneaky? Oh! Yes, he can do that. He dances a little in excitement before his face goes neutral and serious. He's got this, you watch. He even whispers confirmation of this.]

I am Groot.

[Sneaking up very slowly, he creeps along the rooftop and once he's close enough to the pigeon, he screams a battle cry and jumps on it, arms wrapped around it's fat neck. The bird panics and manages to throw Groot off with it's wings, leaving him on the ground as it flies away. Hmpth! Close.

One day he will tame a bird to use as his own. One day.]

[cranston]

[ Having Groot on his shoulder is a little more comfortable than having him holding onto his arm, so Billy walks a little faster and they make their way out to the garden. Once there, he carefully picks Groot up and sets him down on the grass while he kneels down to start picking some lettuce. ]

So are you like, an alien? ...Say "I am Groot" once for yes and twice for no.

[ainteasy]

You nearly had him.

[ -- softly said. she's no natural teacher. nor, in the end, does groot need teaching. but there's nevertheless a comfortable bond to be found in this interaction. gamora craves family more than she's ever likely to admit. and nurturing this toddler-version of her teammate is a far easier way to blunt that craving than to consider further reconciling with her sister and her quest to kill their father.

gamora defines herself by a different family, now.

she leans her elbows on her knees, all her attention wrapped up in groot. ]

I bet he's flown off to tell his brethren tales of why they should not come here and cross you.

[oakay]

[Hmm, was he an alien? He looks down at himself, at his hands, considers it all for a moment and then looks at Billy with a small nod of his head.] I am Groot.

[Wandering along, he inspects a rather pretty looking flower not far away before biting the head off it and chewing it slowly, looking at Billy thoughtfully. What was he picking? Was that the lettuce? It didn't look like popcorn. Groot points at it.] I am Groot.

[oakay]

I am Groot!

[It is declared with great pride as Groot pretends to fight off imaginary foes just to show off how fearsome and unstoppable he is. He is the mightest of mighty warriors, it's true.

He moves closer to Gamora and flexes his non-existent muscles with a curious expression, unsure if they look impressive or not. He wants to hurry up and grow again, he wants to be a big Groot.] I am Groot?

[like_tofu]

Hey, I believed you the first time around! Be more confident in yourself!

[jobstodo]

"No," Maggie replies, turning now to look back down at the hall she came from. "No walkers, either. But this place is big, maybe someone already cleared this section. We should keep movin', just in case."

She really wants to see if there are supplies; if the entire group is here and they're just scattered.

[like_tofu]

[She'll be saving Moronji for later! There is always a time and place for that.]

Hurt? You mean like from home they are, then they end up here? That's horrible!

[How cruel of you, Wonderland.]

... And wow, you do still look the same like you do at home. Same with Souji-senpai. The whole time doesn't work right concept here is really a real thing. How long have you been here?

[ainteasy]

[ she leans forward -- stretching out an arm so she can pluck a soft downy feather from where it'd gotten itself lodged in the craggy crown of his head during the kerfuffle. with a puff of breath, she blows it off her fingertips and lets it float away. ]

You have to be patient. [ the best things take time to grow, right? time, and effort, and perseverance. even living through hell has taught her the value of biding one's time. ] One day, you will be bigger than some dumb bird.

[cranston]

Cool. That's cool. [ Billy has met aliens before, but he's not allowed to say that so he won't. Though the other aliens he met could say more stuff than just their names. Maybe if there was an alien that was a sort of middle ground between the little Groot says and the nonstop chattering of Alpha, Billy thinks that'd be cool.

He looks up from the lettuce to see Groot pointing. ]

This? This is the lettuce for Zack the turtle. Do you want some? [ He holds out a head for Groot to take if he wants. ]

[oakay]

[Yes. One day he will be bigger than twenty pigeons combined. Then his time will come and he will once again protect his friends.

Coming even closer, Groot climbs on her leg and stands there, watching her curiously. They may not have a lot of their crew with them and they may be stranded but at least he was stranded with the least idiotic one. He would have panicked more by now otherwise. His vines slowly snake out and wrap around her hand, gentle and careful.

A small touch of affection. It's like he's doing that human thing - the holding of the hand.] I am Groot.
