[ it's altogether too easy to harbour (and profess) a softness for groot -- low-hanging fruit, really. and so perhaps it's no surprise that peter rolls easily with having been side-lined for a tree. just as well; prickly though she is, gamora's not looking to hurt him by implication.

[Knife and fork? Friend, his food sometimes grows on him, it's not like he ever had to. Neither did he have to other with table manners, a table or really pie. Pie is a new thing to him, as is most delicious food.

Honestly, he could just live in a pie at this point.]

[He stomps over to the can of whipped cream and hugs it tight and close. Mine. He needs all of it. ALL. OF. IT. He reels back and drags it with him so Peter can't steal it and prevent him from trying to overdose on whipped cream. He won't be sick and if he is, don't worry, he will aim all of his sick on you. No mess to be made!]

[ he almost smiles in delight. the fish bites! instead of spooking her and having her release herself from the hook (gamora as a fish would be capable of doing that; he knows this, she knows this, the entire galaxy knows this), he schools his face and plays it as cool as a cucumber. quietly, he thanks michael jackson for giving him this opportunity in reeling in his jaws. ]

I'd tell you, but … [ peter deliberately shrugs his shoulders. he can't say a word, gamora. it's confidential information, you know? his demeanor's meant to give off that impression. ] If you want to know, you're going to have to make me an offer. [ listen to him, groot. not only is he older and wiser, he's human. whipped cream was made for his kind. he has lived through so many wondrous and disastrous whipped cream moments that, if groot was smart, he'd use that to his advantage. good thing groot is an intelligent little stub of a tree. ]

[ he'd inform him he's going to be as sick as a dog, but peter has the foresight to know groot probably won't like being compared to a dog, even innocently, and that talking to him about getting sick is only going to make him to the thing even more. children, man. ]

[Perhaps it isn't the most ladylike, but it's close enough to a laugh that Rip really doesn't mind it. Especially when he considers that Sara still seems uneasy in some way he can't quite place his finger on. Or perhaps he can, at least the barest edges of it, but to try and harder would force the question to the surface—

Offering the explanation of what they know of Wonderland serves as decent enough distraction. Particularly at the end, when she begins to ask for a reason and then decides against it.]

There's a pause when they first walk in, before Rip takes her up to the bar. While he might himself have preferred whatever privacy there was to be found in a booth, they would get their drinks faster this way—and Rip suspects Sara might be a bit more comfortable to have that freedom of space.]

[ one day there will come a time where peter won't freak out when groot hurts himself. he's a tree, strong and sturdy and capable of growing back his branches if he needs to. he's a super tree! a hero who had broken the fall from the sky and had lead peter to his most heroic act of dancing in front of an evil alien overlord. ]

[ but he still freaks out when groot goes crashing. he makes a move to slide his chair back, but as predicted, groot comes back with all limbs intact, if a little bruised. ]

[ he reaches forward to grab the can and shakes it, making a show of it. shaking it in one hand, then the other — he uses it like it's a set of maracas. and when he goes to open it and spray it on his old pie, nothing comes out. ]

Come on! [ that suave and smooth persona disappears immediately. now, he's like a kid being told he's not allowed to go see the girl he likes. not that he likes gamora, saying so would make it spoken and peter is kind of maybe okay with it being unspoken. ]

[ he pouts, bats his eyelashes, tries to do his best baby groot impersonation. he's not going to stop until she says yes. ]
