You know me, I make light of what everyone does.

[She never went to college, let alone higher education. People weren't exactly sitting her down to ask her what college she wanted to go to or what she wanted to study.

She had enough of a record by high school to get that those things weren't meant for her. ]

[ he knows he's behind the times when it comes to dentistry, that some of the techniques he learned and employed would be regarded as unnecessarily barbaric by "modern" standards. maybe he could start reading up on the newer methods while here. ]

[She gets that at the time he thought he'd never do anything again, really, or as much as she can understand that. She's never been sick like that.

She squeezes his hand lightly.]

[R thinks about it. He looks at the cake, then the girl, and is quite sure that she would be quite sick if she tried to eat all of it.]

[ he all but ignores her, continuing to scroll through his device for signs of trouble. if it were anyone else, ray would feel ... delight. bittersweet relief. the responsibility to get them up to speed and settled, and help them not feel panicked. ]

No. No, this has to be some kind of event. This isn't right.

[ she's not a person. she's a series of incredibly powerful programs that a person made. she can't be a person. ]

It's Wonderland, that's all. Wonderland's either messing with everyone or I'm finally losing it. Awesome.

( There's a visible pause, one that wouldn't be so noticeable if Gideon were still only a voice. She isn't quite certain what to say, and whilst Gideon understands his words she doesn't understand their context )

Wonderland is not in any of the timelines that I have examined.

( And there shouldn't have been time for the Legion of Doom to have collected and used the Spear of Destiny already.

Or was that the point. Would they think nothing had happened when in fact it had? )

I need to locate Captain Hunter.

( Oh dear. It takes only those first few words for Gideon to realise the exact problem, and to know why they're still here. She could understand his questioning over whether or not she was real (she wasn't typically human) but to explain this place as if it were actually somewhere-- )

Captain, I'm afraid that this is still your subconscious. Mr Jackson and Captain Lance were able to depart after you'd believed in them.

( But still he did not believe enough -- in himself, or his memories. A pocket dimension, as much as it was a lovely time and space-y explanation, was not where they were. But it was a start -- he was gaining some confidence still )

But you need to believe still. In yourself.

( He shakes his head. He's never heard of it before. Peter's interest never went into major diseases anyway. He mostly chased after his father's goals to try to track him down, and then he- he was more into engineering side of it all. He likes to build, always has. )

We can. ( Peter reaches out to grab hold of him, and his grip on Harry tightens to a point that might actually be painful, but the overwhelming swell of responsibility nearly crashes into him. Oscorp. He could have done more digging. Is that why they needed the research with the lizard so badly that they were willing to do whatever it took to get it? The man ended up dead, but he's certain Oscorp got a hold of it. They got a hold of what his father was trying to keep secret, and he still doesn't know why except for what happened to Dr. Connors when he had that completed formula and tested it on himself. )

We're not back there anymore. We're in a place with magic, with scientists who know more than the ones at home.

Anything's possible here.

[ he was a desperate man in the years following his grim prognosis, especially the later ones. doc tried to keep practicing, but he ultimately turned to gambling and other means of sustaining himself. wyatt didn't approve of all it, but it had been his short life to live. when he agreed to what clootie talked him into, he never imagined it would ensure he not only survived consumption, but lived long enough to meet his best friend's great-great-granddaughter. ]

I know you do, and I am happy to what I can.

[She can't imagine. Or maybe she can a little bit, none of the Earp heirs tend to live long lives but she's never suffered illness like that, where he could barely even get out of bed. That made him make a deal he still regrets to this day.

It's just out of her scope of reality.

She knows how it feels to be desperate for control over your own life. Your destiny. Your sanity. That much she gets but not the rest.]

And maybe it's selfish, but I'm glad you're here with me. It's strange enough to be in such a place, it'd suck more to be on my own.

[ Peter's optimism is a little infectious. Or maybe he's just desperate enough to believe in anything. Even in magic. Hell, he's still not sure how this whole place operates. It's ridiculous. Like New York and all that giant lizard stuff. ]

Anything's possible... [ He lets out a nod, thinking that Peter would know. He's been here for far longer. Who cares that even if they find a cure that he might get thrown back home and have to face dying all over again? He wants to just stop freaking out about this right now so he'll let Peter tell him what he needs to hear. ]

Yeah. I'll just... give you samples of my blood, and you can hand it out to your science buddies and it'll be a done deal, right? [ Peter's grip on him is kind of hurting him, but it's also numbing the other pain, so he allows it. ] I mean. I don't have anything to offer, but... maybe they'll just do me the favor, right? [ That doesn't seem at all realistic to him. ]

... Like they've got nothing better to do with their goddamn lives. [ He chuckles, finding it amusing. Well, there goes that shred of optimism he was trying to hold on to. ] Pete, I don't own a single fucking thing here. No one is going to help me.

My subconscious? [Confusion now finds its way into his words and expression both. Not having lived through the time Gideon now speaks, there's no immediate reason why they should be in his subconscious--and especially not Sara (Captain!) and Jax. The method comes to mind within seconds: cognitive intrusion, and Rip frowns as he immediately begins to wonder not only how the team might know of the practice, but why they would feel a need to use it.]

Don't tell me anything else, Gideon. [The sternness to his words comes not from doubt, as she might think, but certainty. She speaks of his need to believe in himself, and yet he is entirely sure of what he says to her now.]

I need you to believe in me now. [He moves his hands to her shoulders, his grip tight, earnest. He ducks his head just enough to make up for the difference between them in height; Rip looks straight into her eyes, hoping to convince her of the truth of what he says.] Whatever you last remember, wherever you were--the ship, my subconscious, whatever--you aren't there now.

We've been pulled from our universe, and our timeline. I don't know what you're talking about, because I haven't experienced it yet. The last memory I have of home is when we were about to jump to Saint-Lo, France, to rescue Kendra and Carter from Savage.

( To her credit Gideon does stop, hearing him out completely before saying anything.

Except the pause, and the uncertainty that now crosses her own expression, indicate that she's having a problem with what he has said. A big problem.

Surprisingly the problem isn't that Gideon doesn't believe him -- she does. She knows his tone of voice well enough, can recognise the certainty and complete belief that he had in his words, having heard it on numerous occasions before. Somehow she's now with a version of Rip from an earlier point in time. Normally that wouldn't be too much of a problem but-- )

That would then indicate that-- ( That she's real. Human. That is the part that Gideon is having a problem with. She can't be human, not in this reality--

It's not their universr, that's what Rip had said. Had the Spear somehow been involved? She can't ask him that, not yet. Not if it could cause more drastic consequences than are what already occurring )

I do believe you. Though if all of this is real then I believe we may be screwed.

( Unless there's more of the crew, or even the Waverider around. They've accomplished much together, just the two of them, before, but they've also never been in a situation quite like this )

[ Who is this person with awesome taste in movies and food? They really, really need to hang out, for sure. She definitely has a few friends, but Patterson's always been the type to stay inside, focused on her work or her video games, not really interacting with fellow humans much. But she could spare the time for someone with good taste. ]

Okay, silent films are uncharted territory for me so you'll have to guide me, Obi-Wan. [ She's a geek, she can't help throwing in a nerdy reference. ]

A spider guy, huh? So you've got your own sort of superhero running around New York? [ That...sounds familiar now. Spider-Man? Now she's really curious. ]

Oh, it's about a Hobbit named Frodo. Hobbits are just an imaginary race, kind of human-like. Anyway, Frodo inherits the One Ring and has to makes this really, really hard, scary, dangerous journey to Mordor to destroy it. Future of civilization rests in his hands, you know the drill. Typical hero fantasy, but it's really cool.

[R smiles another of those small smiles, tearing his eyes away from the books and trying to keep himself focused. This person was taking his lead on a topic of interest, the least he could do was pay attention.

He falls into step beside Newt, trying not to stumble or shuffle, watching his feet.]

I discovered the selfie, something that had not been a thing where I'm from. ( bc no iphones. )

Well then, I guess I won't have to show you, though I still admit to loving the magic of them.

[The thing with Newt was that he would easily take charge and not realize things may be different than what he thinks. A boon and a curse, perhaps, for anyone trying to carry on a conversation with him.]

I like the sound of big bands, as well as jazz. I like a lot of music I can dance to but the truth is that I'm not much of a dancer.

It'd be my pleasure. [ He'd love to introduce her to silent films. ] I wish I could take you to the philharmonic. They've played a few silent films there with a live orchestra.

[ The one ring thing now seems a little familiar. ] Is the Hobbit movie based on this really chunky book? I think I've seen that at the library before. I should probably watch the movie. It sounds interesting.

[ He's not sure what or who Spider-Man is. After all, he'd only returned to New York for a couple of days before finding himself in Wonderland. ] I guess it depends on who you ask. Some people might think of him as a superhero. Some might think he's a menace. Personally, I think he's taking the law into his own hands and that can be dangerous.

[ That's amusing. ] Back home, people would upload their selfies online so random strangers can give it a "like" or a comment. [ Is he suggesting that she post some of her selfies? ] The whole point of it is that someone should appreciate all that effort you've put into making yourself look good. [ Oh, he might be. ]

[dramatic]

( true story: mj would be fascinated with instagram and snap chat. she'd have a lot of followers ok. she could say, in true mj fashion, that looking good never requires that much effort on her part, but she's curious now. ) I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

[elevating]

[ Ooh. Is that how they're playing this game? ] Not having my manservant hold the camera for me is making it difficult for me to look attractive. But for you. [ :D ]

You look familiar. It's like we've met before. Maybe at the Central Park Zoo?

( it's too bad he can't see her preen. ) I'm not the kind of panda you can contain in a zoo, my friend. I'm more of a in-the-wild kind of panda. But I did leave a piece of my heart in New York, so it's still possible we've crossed paths.

I left New York when I was eleven. I was caged up in boarding school, but I saw a lot of the world after. [ He's not sure why he's telling her all that. Maybe because he's had a bit too much to drink that texting comes easily. ] What were you up to before you arrived here?
