[Arrival]

[Caleb isn't one to shy away from adventure, and this also isn't the first time he's awoken in a strange place... Just the first time it was a place quite this fancy! Sure, he's bedded a fancy lady or two in his day, but this - This is fancier than one might typically find in colonial New England.

He's not one for gawking, usually, but he's definitely taking a moment to look around - Not only to admire the furnishings but also to search discreetly for a clue as to where the hell he is. The sound of footsteps behind him cause him to turn around, hand reaching for the knife he usually has concealed at his side.]

[mucked]

Steady, now -- [ a crisp (british) accent gives light warning. she's a fair few paces behind him, but she can see how he goes for a knife. or, well, she can't be certain it's a knife. but there's no telltale pooching for a gun's holster, and she rather hopes it's a knife and not some little pistol.

she raises a hand. supplication, but not surrender. ] There isn't any need of that.

[beardman]

[A woman. Caleb relaxes a little, but not entirely - With friends like Annie, he knows he shouldn't underestimate this one just because she's a woman.

Still. He drops his hand after regarding her for a few seconds, then gives her a little nod and a smile.]

If you say so, miss. You'll have to forgive me, it's just not every day a man finds himself in a place like this with no memory of how he got there.

[mucked]

No, I imagine not. [ not least of all because she's been through the same wringer so recently. ]

But I'm afraid it's how the whole lot of us end up in this predicament: suddenly, and with little explanation.

[beardman]

'The whole lot of us'? [He raises an inquisitive eyebrow.] So you ain't from around here either then, I take it.

[mucked]

Absolutely not. [ good lord, she can't imagine anyone willingly being from here. everything about it feels too itinerant and convenient. impersonal, almost, in its drive to provide every option under the bloody sun. ]

Though I've been stuck here for just over a fortnight.

[beardman]

That long? And you don't know how you got here? [That doesn't bode well.]

[geiger]

[Nora jumps back a step when she sees the light glinting off the knife he's holding. She raises both hands to show she means no harm.]

I'm not going to hurt you, okay?

[beardman]

Oh! [He gives her a sheepish look and lowers the blade, but doesn't tuck it away just yet.] Right - Sorry about that. You just startled me, that's all.

[geiger]

[She relaxes a little as he lowers the blade, but makes sure she's still alert - she doesn't want to trifle with someone who can spring on the defensive that quickly.]

Don't worry about it. My first day here, I was ready to shoot anything that moved. It's a good instinct to keep about you.

[beardman]

Is it, then? [That's... Reassuring.] This place that dangerous?

[geiger]

It can be. But you shouldn't have to worry for now. They tend to give us warning before it gets dangerous.

[choosetruth]

[Georgia raises an eyebrow behind her sunglasses when she sees the knife, stopping out of reach. Her hand drifts towards the gun she carries at her side but she doesn't draw it yet. Better to try diplomacy first.]

If you use that we both end up dead. Believe me, you don't want the disease in my blood getting anywhere near you.

[beardman]

[Well, that's not the response he's expecting - Not from a lady, at that. Caleb frowns a little, not quite understanding.]

The... Disease?

[Maybe she's mad?]

Kellis-Amberlee. Happy to tell you all about it if you put away the knife.

[beardman]

[He finally does tuck his knife away, but he's still not sure he understands.]

All right, then. Go ahead.

[choosetruth]

[She nods. She's not foolish enough to think he can't have it out again in a second if he wants, but then again, she's got a gun in easy reach too. She knows the importance of protecting yourself.]

How much do you know about this place? About different worlds? Because this is gonna be a whole lot easier if you've gotten that rundown already.

[beardman]

...Yeah, you're gonna need to give me that rundown, then, because you're not makin' a lick of sense as it is.

[choosetruth]

Oh boy. [She adjusts her sunglasses, frowning, as she tries to come up with the best way to put this. His clothes are pretty old fashioned looking. If he's from before the invention of science fiction, this may be even more difficult.] What year is it?

[beardman]

[He crosses his arms, cocking an eyebrow.] 1778.
