[ Six years. That's...a long time. She tries to process that for a second and knows that she'd miss her friends but also...that's six years of not having to deal with Blaine and whatever issues he's going through. Or the looming war on zombies.

Vacation? She already knows about time standing still back home while she's here so maybe, yes, totally a vacation. ]

I haven't yet. Someone told me this place works based off of memories?

[ How does that even work when she's literally consuming new memories at least once a month? ]

[ ray's head wobbles on its axis as he considers the favored theory among wonderland transplants. it's not his favorite, but he can understand the feeling of clarity accepting it as true would offer. ]

Well, Wonderland does appear to remove memories from us at will and without warning. But the vendors have that capability, too.

'Vendors?' What are those?

[ No one's mentioned that to her before, and she tilts her head to the side a little. As they walk, they pass someone and Liv can't help doing a little wave and smiling brightly which earns her nothing in response because it was probably weird. ]

Oh, don't mind him, he's not really a people person--

[ ray quietly murmurs his reassurance before returning to the task at hand: ]

The creepy being out beyond the gardens? You can get more sophisticated stuff from them if you have something to pay with. I hear they'll take things other than memories if they're good enough, but-- the memory thing is pretty weird.

[ Well, now Liv has questions and she doesn't know how to ask them, so she just goes quiet for a minute or so as they walk. She really wishes Ravi were here so she could at least run some science by him without worrying he might try to stab her in the head. Ray seems nice, but there's 'nice when you think you're talking to a human' and 'freaking out because you're actually talking to something that eats brains.'

Now she's probably been quiet for too long, so she takes a deep breath, smiling a little as she exhales. ]

I guess no one will ever be able to say this place is boring. I mean, I've never heard of anything like it before. Trading memories for things, I mean. Do you know anyone who's done it?

[ he suddenly looks astonishingly guilty. ]

Maybe?

[ boy man that painting on the wall is super interesting isn't it? ]

Oh, coffee shop's coming up! C'mon, I'll make you a killer latte. You like vanilla?

[ Maybe? Sounds like an evasive 'yes' to Liv. But she doesn't know Ray so she can't pry the way she super wants to. Maybe if he was a suspect in something but he's not, so. Latte talk time! ]

I think I can handle vanilla. With maybe some cinnamon on top?

[ It's not going to give her a real spicy kick, but even she can't stomach the idea of adding hot sauce to coffee so she just drinks it even with dulled flavor. Thanks, sense of taste, for taking a nose dive on anything that isn't brain. ]

Ooh, spicy? I think that would actually call for a mocha if you don't mind the one-eighty.

[ heyyy he escaped scrutiny. liv is officially a better person than he is bc he would've pressed that button pretty hard. which mean she should probably be chill and confess.

he talks as he moves behind the counter, looking as at ease there as a part time barista might. ]

They don't let you choose the memory they take, by the way.

[ She smiles and watches him get to work, his comment making her shift back to what they were talking about before. ]

Wait, so...we barter for something specific but what we give them in return isn't up to us? That sounds more than a little corrupt.

[ he tosses on one of darcy's gimmick aprons (20% stud 80% muffin) before setting to his task. ]

Well, you can offer them an object of your choosing, I've heard. But what they choose from your memories is totally up to them.

So, here's a question.

[ That has nothing at all to do with her own situation AT ALL. ]

Say you have...other people's memories. I mean, hypothetically. Is there a chance the vendors could Russian Roulette their way into something you didn't care about keeping anyway?

[ Because you better believe there are some traumatizing things she's seen through the eyes of victims that she'd rather forget. ]

That's a pretty specific and complicated question.

[ but he does her the courtesy of fixing his attention on filling grounds and tamping them into the maker thingy. ]

I suppose, theoretically? But I've only heard gossip and rumors-- there's no real way to find out exactly how they work, you know?

[ no way to really prove that it's the quality and importance of a memory that makes it valuable to them. that you can't hide the best ones away, out of reach and safe in some mental box. ]
