Jessica Jones | Marvel MCU
It wasn't long after her arrival that Jessica learned that mind bend reality that changed the room to whatever you wanted - including her hellhole apartment because at least it was familiar among all the weird - also kind of extended to the windows. In this case, to a fire escape outside the window.
So when Wonderland with its lack of buildings and streets and alleys to roam really started getting to Jessica, she grabbed a bottle from the closet and headed out onto the escape. Which was where she was now, door to her place cracked and her device on the floor by the mattress. Who the fuck knew what event was next, but for now she was using alcohol to ignore thinking about the past, and whatever future was coming.
Gardens, Forest edge, hallways, everywhere
When you're used to hoofing it nearly everywhere you go, Wonderland is like having your entire world turn into a project with a damn nice beach and gardens that look like someone's trying to gentrify the damn place.
The lack of asphalt and pavement though doesn't slow Jessica down. All hours of the day and night she can be found wandering the halls, creating paths along the edge of the woods with the constant gait, and avoiding the rolling surf while staying in the damp sand that held better under foot.
Text
Does everyone in this place come from the country or some shit? How do you handle the lack of city? I'm going fucking stir crazy.
Why can't one of these damn events be something like King Kong, or Ghostbusters, or anything set in New York. Hell, I'd almost settle for alien invasion but fuck doing that again.
Fire Escape
Half curious and half concerned, Chloe pauses outside the door. She tries to eye the inside, but all she can see is a sliver of a shitty looking apartment. She pushes the door open with her fingertips.
"Hello?"
There is no response, so Chloe lets the door swing open the rest of the way and walks in, one hand hovering over her holstered gun out of habit. She can see someone outside on what looked like a fire escape - definitely not part of the original architecture.
"Hey?" Chloe glances around again, wrinkling her nose. Seth made fun of her for her stark room but this... "What a craphole," she mutters.
Fire Escape
Shifting when the second call out came, catching the words even as she swung her legs in and dropped down to stand just inside the window.
"Yeah, but it's home," she notes, still holding a bourbon bottle by the neck and giving Chloe a once over. "And stand down, Five Oh. I promise I'm not a threat to myself or others," she says, using a bit of deduction and sarcasm and make that assumption, holding up the other hand as if surrendering. Except she took a swig from the bottle at the same time.
no subject
"Jeeze, you scared me," she says, taking a breath. "I saw the door open and just thought... Well, just wanted to make sure anyone in here was okay."
It's second nature for her, even here, when she knows 90% of the things that happen are more likely to kill her rather than be something she can save someone else from. Chloe can't blame her for taking a drink out of the bottle she's holding; after all, Chloe has been drinking quite a bit more than usual, just the dull the pain of being stuck in Wonderland.
"You do realize you can make the rooms look however you want them to, right?" You know, just in case she thinks she has to live in this crappy apartment or something.
Not that Chloe is in any place to judge...
no subject
Jessica leaned back against the windowsill, glancing around the room. "Yep, I know. I also know this is what my place back home looked like. Eventually going to be back there so why pretend like my life is anything different here?"
It was the logic she convinced herself of, though she didn't like using the powers of others she didn't know. Whoever could be behind it all, she wasn't sure she wanted to be in their debt.
no subject
With a tilt of her head, Chloe follows her gaze around the room. "Yeah, well, my room looks like a freaking hotel room so I really can't say anything. I don't think there's any point in settling in when I don't plan on being here for long."
She still honestly believes there is a way home, and that she will somehow find it. She casts her gaze back to the woman and offers her hand. "I'm Chloe."
no subject
Herself included in the "or something".
"Everyone's prepared in one way or another. Or I hope they are."
It isn't even meant to be a warning, though it may sound like one.
"Like Ritz Carlton hotel, or like twenty bucks for the night, no last names needed?" Given hers is the latter, it's a fair question.
no subject
Well that, and vervain, and a few other tips and tricks she's learning along the way. Everyone just has to squeak by on whatever they can make sense of, and most of the time it doesn't even help. Chloe isn't sure how most of the people have stayed alive as long as they have in this place. It was only a matter of time for everyone.
Chloe rolls her eyes in response to her question, although it's not exactly an unfair one. "Uh, something in between, I guess. Maybe $70 a night on special." It might not be this kind of shithole, but it's cold and plain and the mattress isn't particularly comfortable. It's just what Chloe thinks she deserves.
no subject
Not that she suspected they needed permits when the closet just gave a person what ever weapon they asked for. Not the best method of tracking things done if something went bad, but then bad tended to be greater than a shooter without a suspect.
"Fair enough. Least you're not buying into the everything's free lap of luxury game most seem to accept. Only a matter of time before the tables turn, right? Also, you got a name?" Not offering hers, but asking.
no subject
"The tables turn pretty regularly around here," she conceded, finally starting to relax a little. This woman obviously knew how to take care of herself, and that was something Chloe respected. She liked surrounding herself with strong women; it made living in this hellhole a little easier. "Chloe Decker. You?"
no subject
"Jessica Jones," she admitted, seeing no reason to hide it. If this woman knew the name, maybe it changed things but she wouldn't know unless she mentioned it. "Where you from? You don't strike me as a small town sheriff." Feeling out, making sure it wasn't New York.
no subject
It did give her something to think about, though. Would it help Wonderland to have some kind of protective force? People seemed to look out for each other, but that didn't mean everyone knew how to look out for themselves, especially when it came to events.
"Uh, yeah, the opposite actually. Los Angeles." Jessica didn't exactly reek of small town, either. "You?"
no subject
It was Jessica Jones logic, and maybe it wouldn't always work but it has served her well.
"I don't know, but don't you think that eventually the people will turn? Human nature and all. They'll bring through someone that killed another, someone that thought nothing of killing before this place, and when they try and do what they're used to here, what happens then?"
She shrugs, proving that she expects the worse out of people, here or back home.
"That's pretty much the opposite. Of small town and where I'm from. New York. Hell's Kitchen."

[Georgia's a blogger. It's been almost a year and she's still going through withdrawal.]
If you're from New York, it's likely we might have an event set there someday. But since it'd be based on your memories, alien invasion's more likely than King Kong, sorry to break it to you.
text
[It's the lack of freedom that irks. At least jails with bars aren't pretending.]
Then there's something to look forward to. Death and destruction and New York. At least one of those things isn't like normal.
text
I'm West Coast myself. I've been to New York a few times, never for very long. Can't say I remember a whole lot of aliens.
text
Yeah well, maybe it's a special government dismissed it kind of tin foil hat kind of thing. I'd rather not the aliens, but the city would be nice.
text
[Especially heartbreakingly beautiful lies that are ten thousand times better than what she had going on back home.]
Maybe. But we might have just been too busy with the zombies to think about aliens.
What do you miss most about it?
text
[It's the people pretending otherwise that confuse the hell out of Jessica.]
Least aliens don't bite? Least none bite anyone I knew.
[She drank a lot after it though so Jessica might not know all that happened.]
Honestly? The noise. It's so damn quiet here all the time. Hurry up, kill things, don't die... silence. It's nervewracking. You?
text
The internet. Hands down. I'd kill to check my email.
text
Which isn't saying it isn't. I like it better than alternative worlds or wormholes or whatever.
[It was more calming than thinking of the world frozen in time, waiting on her. She could never buy that's a thing anyway.]

Wait, that's fairly normal though maybe not enjoyable.

It's not the same, and it's not a city. It's barely a magical isle, though the creepy forest is a nice touch.
