[Jay's been in here too long, he knows, but he's been forcing himself to breathe slowly. Conserve oxygen. He'll have to step into the water eventually, but the longer he can stay dry, the better.]

[He isn't thinking about the sensation of water in his lungs. Not at all.]

[But then the door opens, and someone steps in, and her hair's weighed down and dripping but the second she looks over and opens her mouth, he freezes. He's watched the tapes a hundred thousand times over, and since he got here, he's been looking, watching every new arrival, but he didn't think-- ]

( something like relief courses through her. jessica hadn't thought she would see a familiar face here, didn't think that she would be so happy to have someone else going through this weird place, but she is. and it's someone she's been through weird things before, even if she's still waiting on an explanation, never managed to get one until—

well, she isn't sure, because some(thing)one had been in her room, and then she had ended up here. but it's jay, the weird guy in the room next door, and even if he's a virtual stranger he's still someone she knows. )

( maybe jessica could get that explanation now, since they're both here and apparently away from whatever that is. of course, both of them are now surrounded by the danger of water, lack of air and whatever this place is going to throw at them next, but at least she has some idea about this place. it's not as much as she would prefer, but at least with others around she can slowly piece things together with the information they give her, or even just by what happens.

back home she doesn't remember anything; she's clueless. )

I went back into my room like you said, left the door open— someone was in there, but before anything happened I ended up here. ( perhaps going home wouldn't be the best thing, since some creep is in her hotel room and she has no idea what could have happened had she stayed. )

[He guesses. Like he doesn't remember every agonizing second spent bleeding out on the floor of Benedict Hall.]

[The thin air catches in his throat, and he lets out a small, choked cough.]

Look, I'll explain everything, I swear, but we--I've been in this room too long, and with two of us, the oxygen's gonna last even less time. We need to get out of here before we start getting...asphyxiated or whatever.

( so apparently the situation back home is more dire than she had realised. if jay was getting shot and ending up in a strange new world after it, then jessica doesn't want to think about what will happen to her once she ends up back home - if she does end up there, that is.

[Jay tries very hard not to think about the way the water would settle in his lungs, heavy and solid in a way that coughing couldn't dislodge. He tries harder not to think of the way his head was plunged underwater, breathing it in because he was just on concrete; did it take--]
