It does suck. I wanted so desperately to save her, but I couldn't. She was well past saving and the entire town would have been destroyed otherwise.

The worst part is if I had kept looking for her when she went missing, if I didn't give up and assume she was dead all those years -- maybe we could have actually saved her. Willa deserved better than what she got.
