[Alistair watches as whoever she is rolls out of the way of his attack, a little less nimbly than usual maybe but still what he'd expect from Robyn. He doesn't move to pursue her - both as he hadn't intended to do so unless she suddenly transformed into a demon and as he suddenly has a large, snarling mabari in front of him. He freezes in place, not wanting to provoke the hound if he can avoid it, only moving when they both back away.

She hasn't retaliated or transformed or even just let her mabari attack him. A demon surely would have done something - struck back or revealed it's true form. But the real Robyn wouldn't want to hurt him unless she had no other choice. Just as suddenly as he'd attacked, Alistair deflates with a huge sigh.]

It is you.... I'm not going to hurt you, I promise!

[Belatedly he realises that will be a lot more convincing if he's not still waving a blade around. Tucking his sword and shield away he winces. She's angry. Understandably so but....]

Maker, I'm sorry Robyn. I just... didn't know how else to be sure. I thought if you were a demon you'd reveal yourself if you felt threatened. I didn't really want to hurt you. You have to believe me.

[Scrubbing a hand through his hair uncomfortably he stares down at his feet. It had seemed like a good idea at the time. And it had worked. But maybe next time he should try and come up with something that didn't make the only person he knew here want to leave him to get chewed on by her hound.]
heroica: (i still remain the same)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-11-22 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I know you aren't! [ Because she has no intention of letting him near her with that blade whether he's himself or not. The Warden eyes him closely, dagger still in hand, safely behind the aggressively-attentive mabari. It's better when he sheathes his weapon, but she can't help but be wary. ]

If I were a demon, I'd have thought of a better way to trick you. [ She says ruefully. Still, she'd felt the presence of another Grey Warden and it had been him without question. She sighs, brushing aside some of the prickling, warning feeling. ]

I believe you. But there aren't any demons here, Alistair. [ Well, that isn't true, but she doesn't know it. There aren't any of the demons that they are used to, anyway. ] Maker, I've got so much to tell you, to explain -

[ Except, she remembers her own experiences thus far, how all their memories (of those from Thedas) were mixed, varying. From different points in time, even.

So, gingerly, she asks: ]
What's the last thing you remember?
fatherlesskind: (06)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-22 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Alright, yes, he shouldn't be bothered that she's suspicious of him now. He's not big on the idea of trusting people who have just tried to kill him himself. Dropping his hands to his sides, Alistair retreats a few steps to lean against a tree, giving her some distance.]

I thought this was the Fade. Like in the Circle again.

[It had seemed reasonable to think at the time. A strange place with no idea how he'd gotten there - what else could it have been? Besides whatever it apparently was.

He blinks in confusion at Robyn's question, frowning at her uncertainly.]

That's a strange thing to ask.

[But she'd been surprised he recognised her. Did that mean... what? That he might have forgotten things? Including her? That was an unpleasant thought and one he didn't care to dwell on.]

The last thing I remember - before making a fool of myself - is leaving for the palace in Denerim. For the Landsmeet.

[Something he'd been both dreading and anticipating in equal parts. It meant they would finally have the chance to bring Loghain to justice but there was that whole other business that he really wasn't sure he was ready for.]

Why? Should I remember something else?
heroica: (all the broken chords and unnamed cries)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-11-22 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand. [ She hadn't been sure what to think when she'd first arrived and finally allows herself a smile, small and relieved, and - he's really here. ] But it isn't. Really.

[ There's so much to say. It's a blessing that he remembers the same as she does, that he knows her and doesn't think of "the Warden" as another person. A weight lessens in her chest gradually; there's still a lot to be done, but it's good to have him here. Really... very good. ]

This place is called Wonderland. [ Robyn says, laying a hand on Oren's head to assure the hound that things are safe. ] I know you might have just left me, but... I've been here almost three months, now. Time moves in a strange way, here.

[ Understatement, but still the truth. ]

There are others from Thedas, but they're all from our future. They knew things about all of us that will happen. That we defeat the Archdemon safely, and - some other things.

[ Like that they rule together as king and queen, said the Inquisitor, but she won't push that information onto him. Not yet. ]
fatherlesskind: (02)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-22 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Three months?

[That couldn't be right. He'd seen her not long before he found himself here, as their small party set out for the palace, following her lead as always despite his nerves.

He doesn't get a chance to argue - not that he thinks Robyn is lying, it just doesn't make any kind of sense - but he's distracted by what she tells him next.]

The- Really? We do? We stop it? And we're all OK?

[He's not sure he believes that either - people from the future? It just seems, well, impossible. Much like magically waking up in a strange place he's never seen before come to think of it. But if it were true... To know that they will defeat the archdemon and stop the Blight and survive doing so? He wants it to be true. More than anything he wants to believe that they'll all get through the final battle in one piece.]

You really believe that?

[If Robyn believes it's true then maybe he can too, no matter how unbelievable it sounds.]
heroica: (you can call it what you want)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-11-23 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I know how it sounds. [ But she has to press on because even she couldn't explain their time apart that hadn't existed for him at all if he asked. ] But... yes, that's what I've been told. And I do believe it. Brennan - The Inquisitor, as is his title, knew more about me and of our adventures than he could have unless he'd spoken to me. He said we wrote each other, that... in his time, ten years from when we end the Blight, I've been off in the Deep Roads searching for a cure for the taint.

[ Then, meekly: ] He's said that you're to be king, Alistair. And he isn't the only one. But - Never mind that. We have our own time to go through, don't we? So, if you don't want the throne, you needn't take it just because we've been told otherwise.

[ Robyn smiles, small, but earnestly. She doesn't mention that she'd been told that she would be his queen, that they'd be married. Alistair may know her, but she has no idea if their relationship is the same as it'd been. Best not to overwhelm him.

Speaking of: ]
We ought to go inside. The forest isn't dangerous, but we'll be more comfortable there.
fatherlesskind: (11)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-23 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Jerking back upright Alistair stares at her in open-mouthed shock. He's not sure if the idea of a cure or the idea of someone who's from ten years after they end the Blight is more unbelievable. But he knows which one is more important to him.

A cure for the taint? He'd never even considered such a thing. Would it even be possible? It almost feels wrong to think about, knowing that Duncan had started to hear his Calling before he died. But if it is possible...

The news about his kingship pales in comparison to that. They've discussed the idea of him becoming king. He's talked about it with Eamon - or being told what his duty is - and with Robyn and Anora's glared at him over it and the rest of their party have almost all weighed in on the matter. It's still an utterly terrifying prospect, being responsible for an entire nation with all the people living in it depending on him to keep them safe. But it's become a familiar kind of terror, like the archdemon. One he thinks he might be able to cope with no matter how much he protests to the contrary. The whole thing is irrelevant without the Landsmeet though so he doesn't bother to say anything on the topic.

Offering a slightly strained smile in return he nods.]

Right. Inside. Let's go.

[He steps towards her then stops, watching her hound warily.]

He's not still mad about before is he? I don't really need a mauling to make today even worse.
heroica: (you can call me anything you want)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-11-23 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
He'll be fine. His name is Oren.

[ After her nephew, of course, killed at Highever. She crouches to murmur at his side, rubbing his neck encouragingly. The dog seems to get the message and wanders tentatively to Alistair, sniffing all around. He must get at least some similar impression from Robyn and his tongue lolls out of his mouth as he seems to accept the man with the sword. ]

See? No harm done. [ She stands and pats the dog on the back before leading on ahead through the woods. It isn't too long before they emerge out onto the grass, the big expanse with the enormous mansion looking over it. ]

We've all been brought here from... different worlds. Most not from Thedas. [ Robyn turns to look back at him, quietly judging his reactions and trying not to overload him with information. ] There are a few others, but only one is Ferelden. A man named Garrett Hawke.
fatherlesskind: (08)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-24 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Sympathy flickers across his face as Alistair recognises the name as a member of her family lost in the massacre. It also reminds him that this isn't Calen. He's not sure what happened to her old hound but she'll explain in time he's sure.

Warily he holds his hand out for the hound to smell, ready to snatch it back if it looks like he's about to get bitten. Marbari are smart and Oren might still be angry that he tried to attack his master. Luckily there don't seem to be any hard feelings and he gets nothing worse than a bit of snot smeared on his gauntlet. Taking his hand back he follows Robyn out of the forest and towards the manor. He perks up when she starts to explain the place, looking about with mingled curiosity and disbelief.]

Not from Thedas? You mean from... the Qunari lands? Or even further away?

[He's never even heard of places further away than that. Even the Qunari homeland seems immeasurably far away, to think of places beyond that.... How would it even be possible to travel that distance? Without some kind of magic anyway and even that seems unlikely.]

Wait, so where are we really? You told me what this place is called but not where it is.

[Not in Ferelden, given he's never heard a place like this before but they can't have gone that far from home, can they? Not unless a lot more time passed before he woke up here than he thought. Or some really powerful magic was involved but he's never even heard of that kind of thing. Whatever the case it's the first time he's actually left his home country. Pity it had to happen in such a strange way but it's exciting all the same. Even with the kidnapping bit.]
heroica: (all the broken chords and unnamed cries)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-11-24 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
As far as I know, we aren't in the same world, or... realm, at all. Like the Fade.

[ Except, not the Fade. She smiles apologetically at the lack of a better explanation. ]

Some understand it better than I do. [ Robyn says, reasonably. ] It seems as if this is its own little... island, somehow. You can't walk too far from it, or even sail. You're only sent back to the middle by magic, or so they say.

[ No, not in Ferelden. Wonderland is another thing entirely, something totally foreign and strange, the likes of which even the most learned of mages and scholars might puzzle over. ]

Morrigan was here. [ She speaks suddenly, looking on ahead as they walk. ] She... didn't recognize me at all. Somehow, her memories of our travels during the Blight weren't the same as mine. It's why I thought you might not know me.

[ Maker, but it's such a relief that he does. The Warden peers almost sheepishly at him, then glances away again. ]

... I'm very glad that you do, though.
fatherlesskind: (32)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-25 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
What?

[He almost trips over his own feet at that. They're in the Fade? Or something like it? How is that possible? How can she be so calm about it?

No, he needs to be calm too. Robyn had said it was like the Fade and that there weren't any demons here. He believed her - she'd been the one to break him free when he had been trapped in the Fade before so she had to know what she was talking about. But something like the Fade, even without demons was still worrying.

How did they get home? If they couldn't just walk or ride or take a ship then what would they do? What would happen with the Blight while they were gone? Would they still be able to stop it, like she'd been told they did? Maker this was confusing! And it just kept getting worse.]

Morrigan? Are you sure she wasn't just saying she didn't to.... I don't know, upset you maybe?

[She was an evil swamp witch after all. She'd do that sort of thing. Maybe.]

You're glad? I'm glad you still know me. I'd be lost if I had to figure this all out for myself!

[If Morrigan really could not know Robyn then the same could have gone for her and him. And he didn't think he'd believe any of what she was telling him if it wasn't coming from someone he already trusted. It was too crazy.]
heroica: (you can call me anything you want)

[personal profile] heroica 2015-11-25 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry. [ She adds, quickly, sensing his concerns; after all, she'd had the same questions when she'd first arrived. ] They say that time back home stands still while we're here. It's almost like a dream, isn't it? So... the Blight will be there, waiting for us, when it's over.

[ SO REASSURING ]

Why would Morrigan want to upset me? [ Alistair pls ] No... I think she was serious. She said that the new Warden she remembers was a Dalish elf. Everything else was the same. It was more like I didn't fit into the story.

[ It bothers her, still. As if she's a piece to a puzzle, to some puzzle, but not the one she'd thought all along. ]

You would have been fine. [ Robyn smiles earnestly, gently nudging his arm. ] You've been without my wise guidance most of your life, you know.
fatherlesskind: (07)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2015-11-26 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Right. Like a dream. Except without the good bits. And with a Blight when we wake up.

[So actually yes, just like one of his less enjoyable dreams. Hurrah.]

Because she's evil. [Duh.] So she still remembered me and all the others?

[Having Morrigan forget him wouldn't be so bad. He could just pretend to have never met her then and they wouldn't ever have to talk. Ever. Really, why is Robyn upset by what was a stroke of good fortune?]

Yes, when I had other people telling me where to go and what to do. [Arl Eamon, the templar trainers, Duncan. He shrugs and smiles back. He knows what she means and, yes, he would have managed on his own since he'd have had no other choice. But it is handy having someone else who's been here a while to explain things.] Besides, it means you've done all the hard work and I get to just nod along while you tell me everything. Much easier!
