HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU?!

You have isolated your victim to study it at length, seeking to become them. You are nearly satisfied you know your chosen subject, ready to take on its form, leaving the poor soul to rot. You crave bottomlessly to be more, more powerful, more skilled, more inspired, and being them will be so much more interesting.

They will tell you what they think, they will tell you what they feel, they will tell you what they see. Are all these shapes useful? Will they let you know them? Will they tell you more about them?

Dipper is muttering to himself and reading as he walks, only looking up enough to keep himself from walking into walls. He knows the layout of the place well enough by now that he doesn't have to look up often, though he's pretty sure Mabel and Grunkle Stan would tell him he shouldn't read and walk anyway.

Considering how close he gets to actually walking into a knife before he looks up and sees the other kid.... they might have a point. He lets out a surprised yelp and scrambles backwards.

"What the heck, man?" He looks around for something he can use as a weapon... why does he never think about needing something to fight with until he's already facing a weird kid with a knife?
determinedest: (* I'll climb this mountain and...)

And it's...a human?

Frisk almost drops the knife in alarm. They didn't know humans were here. Maybe that would make sense, they realize belatedly, because they are on the surface. Some kind of surface, in any case.

There's no pretending that they didn't have a knife, but they hastily shove it back in their pocket and raise both hands in what they hope will do for a calming, placating gesture. They don't want to hurt anyone. That's not what the knife is for. Or - yes, it is, but it's not what Frisk uses it for.

Their mouth is dry. They can't think of anything to say. Talking never came very easy for them. They just keep shaking their head, backing away, trying to look as nonthreatening as they can.
krmvgivv: (he woke with a start)

And now the kid looks like Dipper is the threatening one. Great. He exhales and relaxes, then tucks his book back into his jacket. He gives the other kid a smile, or at least, something pretty close to one.

"Okay... maybe we should start over. I'm Dipper." He offers the kid a hand. "You look... really new."
determinedest: (* Seems talking won't do any more good.)

Okay. This is...okay. They just haven't seen other humans in - in a long time. In however long several timelines squared by other timelines is. They have to stop thinking about the math there, because that's the point where their head starts to hurt and they can't possibly keep track of everything. But they haven't, really, seen any other humans for a while.

They mouth his name silently, then take a breath. Time to try again.

"Frisk." There. It's not so hard. They manage to meet his eyes and they can even reach out and take his hand. "I'm - um. Yeah."

He guessed it right the first time. They're new. They think they are. They didn't RESET; they certainly didn't reach for a SAVE. But it'd be too difficult to explain, and he might forget it they end up doing a RESET anyway.
krmvgivv: (he's as cool as they come)

[personal profile] krmvgivv 2016-01-23 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Frisk. Cool." Weird name, but Dipper can't really judge. He vaguely wonders if Frisk is a girl or a boy, but he doesn't know of any not weird way to ask that so he just... hopes he won't have to use pronouns for any reason. He shakes their hand and then gives an awkward half shrug.

"I'd say welcome to Wonderland, but it's hard to feel all that welcome when you've been taken somewhere against your will. Some parts of it are pretty cool, though! And other parts... really, really suck." He can never decide whether he loves Wonderland or hates it. The mysteries are awesome. The twelve forever part is hell. "But... what do you know? Has anyone given you the rundown yet?"
determinedest: (* This doesn't strike you as accurate.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-01-23 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Wonderland. Like, in the books and movies, that kind of Wonderland? Frisk frowns at the other kid dubiously, like they're not quite sure they can believe him - but then again, who are they to draw the line at that? They've faced monsters. They've dated skeletons and flirted with mold jello things. They saved an Underground kingdom with the power of love and friendship and anime, so it's not as if they have the right to judge.

"I thought we were - " They break off, shake their head, start over. On the surface, they were about to say, but that seems to be a given. They don't want to sound completely, well, stupid. "I haven't seen anyone. Yet." Oh, uh. "Until now." There.
krmvgivv: (and the cars streak past with life insid)

"I know how it sounds." Even Dipper, who had been dealing with the supernatural for months before he got here, had some trouble coming to grips with it. Reading helped. Reading always helps. "But it's true. Alice is even here. She... doesn't have eyes. But she's nice!"
determinedest: (* She'll find another kid.)

it's alex-mun and I think I'll have to drag this child along for the ride

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-01-23 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Not having eyes isn't necessarily a drawback in Frisk's mind, except for the part where Alice is meant to be human, and humans aren't typically eyeless.

Still, it's nice that Dipper isn't holding the "brandishing-a-knife" issue against them. They've been among monsters for so long (relatively?) that they'd almost forgotten what humans were like. Puzzles and challenges and spear-throwing aren't normal for them, are they?

(He's not wearing a striped shirt, but they think he's a kid anyway.)

"What happened?" Frisk gestures at vaguely in the direction of their own facial region as they try not to look disturbed by the news that people can apparently lose their eyes here.
krmvgivv: (why is my life in your eyes?)

OH HI. YES YOU SHOULD DO THAT.

[personal profile] krmvgivv 2016-01-23 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, puzzles and challenges are normal for some humans.

Dipper frowns, rubbing his arm. "I'm not... totally sure." He was not great at communicating with her. "She's been here a really long time, though. Like, 150 years a long time. So all sorts of weird things could have happened. Plus, she's been 12 that whole time."

That's the part that worries Dipper most. Not many people stay more than a few years, if that, but the fact that it's a possibility, that he could possibly spend a century or more being 12... it's terrible.
determinedest: (* Seems talking won't do any more good.)

IT'S WEIRD TO HAVE A CHARACTER WHO IS NOT AN ASSHOLE

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-01-23 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe Alice is a kind of monster, if she doesn't age. Unless everything else is similarly caught in time here, which means that Frisk...

They look at their hands. Are they going to be like this forever, now? For as long as they're here?

This place is feeling less and less like Snowdin all the time. They'd thought for a brief moment that they were back Underground when they woke up here, but this - it's all wrong.

They glance back at Dipper, wary again. "So you've been here...how long?"
krmvgivv: (the rock trembled on the edge)

LMAO I UNDERSTAND THE FEELING

[personal profile] krmvgivv 2016-01-24 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Almost a year now." He's still 12, no matter how many times he tells people he's 13. And he'll still be 12 when he turns 14. And soon after that, people will stop believing him when he says his age. Not that the thought of that ever weighs on him.

"So there's no way out. Not that we've found anyway. Sometimes it just spits you back out, and we don't know why that happens either."
determinedest: (* The whole world is ending.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-01-24 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
No way out. Trapped forever.

Sounds familiar.

That's not the sort of thing that tends to make Frisk any less determined, but they also don't know the full story here, not yet. At least they don't have to get used to the suspension of time. Does one age when caught in a continuous loop? Those are the kinds of questions that makes their head ache at the temples, so they quickly shift the thought aside.

What else could they possibly ask without arousing some kind of suspicion? No one besides Flowey knew about the RESETs, the SAVEs. Flowey and...and others, sometimes. Could they RESET?

Best not to try that now.

Frisk scuffs at the ground with their feet and look down, sheepish. "Sorry. About the - "

The knife. But they don't want to say it.
