Purpose?

[ for a moment, hagrid's steam wavers. the purpose, he thought, had been very clear. he stutters for a moment, struggling to find words in answer to a question he hadn't expected. ]

Er-- the purpose. Right. That ... is a very good question. [ nope he's gonna need another moment, here. ] And, er, what's yer name, fella?

[Crying themselves to nothing? Is that really a purpose to be had? Seemed rather pitiful to the Servant. Maybe there was some deeper purpose to a creature who cried all the time. A source of food for other creatures? It certainly didn't look like it had the means to defend itself.

Archer listens to the man stumble over his words.]

[ hagrid mumbles something beneath his breath and the word 'malfoy' though muffled, can probably be made out. ]

Well, Archer, I'm glad you asked what purpose little Squonky here serves. [ don't say its purpose is to melt. don't say its purpose it to melt. ] He's, er, well-- he's a reminder that some things need lookin' after.

[ hagrid stands a little taller, proud of his answer. unfortunately, his face gets cut off in the frame in the process. ]

[Okay, that answer does earn a small tug at the corner of his lips. A hint of a smile. But it's fleeting for the most part. Archer himself knew that sentiment very well. To take care of and protect. But taking a mage was very different than caring for something that cried non stop.

Both eyebrows raise upward.]

Whoever has to take care of that must have quite the patience. [Props to you Hagrid.]
