[He almost has to do a double-take when Souji appears behind the counter-- calm and collected like nothing here was out of the ordinary, like it was a day just like any other. Same as always. Kanji has never been able to even try faking that kind of composure.]

[Souji's not who he expected, but if he could pick one familiar face to turn up here, it would be him. Their leader has always known what to do when things get weird.]

You work here?

[He knows you juggle a lot of part-time jobs, but isn't this a little far out of the neighborhood?]

[Souji is known for rolling with whatever happens, as well as for hanging out with people who are not nearly as good at it. It's just about the only thing about him that makes him feel like he actually is a leader of any sort. The rest of the time, he just feels like the guy running in front of the party and coordinating movements.]

[Souji glances around like he's seeing the diner for the first time.]

I don't get paid or anything.

[Not getting anything in return admittedly took a little getting used to, but it's never really bothered him.

But more important things probably need to be said right about now.]

I dunno, maybe a couple of hours ago?

[He sheepishly rubs at the back of his neck, giving an awkward shrug. He hadn't been keeping track, really, but he knows he lost a lot of time playing with the closets.]

Did my reading, I think I figured out some stuff about this place. Thought it was like the TV world when I first got here, but it's way better-- I mean, when's the last time we had something to eat there that we didn't have to bring in ourselves, right?

[Though fyi, he has the standard box of animal crackers on him here regardless.]
