+ ENTRANCEWAY TEST DRIVE MEME +
You have isolated your victim to study it at length, seeking to become them. You are nearly satisfied you know your chosen subject, ready to take on its form, leaving the poor soul to rot. You crave bottomlessly to be more, more powerful, more skilled, more inspired, and being them will be so much more interesting.
They will tell you what they think, they will tell you what they feel, they will tell you what they see. Are all these shapes useful? Will they let you know them? Will they tell you more about them?
For you must see more. You have not yet seen enough. You must rise--

go dunk on him instead of cute little children, snas
[They're not capable of it.]
I know you. You'll put it off to the very last second. Until there's hardly even a point to it anymore. I'll have plenty of time to find a better weapon. To practice. Even if we no longer call it LOVE, I will gain the strength I exist to gain.
And you'll let me. I know your true nature, Sans. You never expect to stop me. You never lift a finger to protect the human you swore to Toriel you would watch out for.
You're just like me, Sans.
You don't care one bit about doing the right thing. It has no point. None of it does. When you stand in my way, as you inevitably will, it will be for yourself.
For a nice trip to Grillby's.
For a way out.

[He looks for all the world like the kid's words have just made him annoyed. Hell, he wishes he was just annoyed. This is nothing he hasn't heard before. It's nothing he hasn't told himself, over and over.]
[Thing is, though, if he has given up to that degree, to the point where in those bad timelines he's just using this kid as...a way out--then why bother trying so hard? Because he knows that he tries. If he didn't, remembering those faint bits he does from other timelines wouldn't hurt so much. He tells himself all the time that he has given up on everything, but if that were true...why bother doing anything at all? Why not just...stop?]
[That one last HP has to be good for something.]
you don't know anything about me, kid.

[So funny. He never seems to act surprised. Or, at the very least, he always tries not to let it show. Even without the ability to remember, he seems to know what's going on. He must have a lot of Fun, taking all those whimsical little shortcuts everywhere.
Chara drinks it in. If they can't gain strength with blows, they'll gain strength with words. They were summoned to FIGHT. In whatever way they can.
But no... it's not just that, is it? Chara had given up on being SAVED like those precious little Lost Souls. Chara had taken Sans' offer of mercy, and it cost them one more death. Chara waited with held breath and as the last person in the world who still uttered their name...
Held it up to a newer, better one, and found Chara lacking.
Ha. Mercy, huh?
No, Chara had no interest in hoping to be lifted up. Chara wanted only to drag someone down. And between Frisk and Sans, what lovely candidates they had! They knew about spooky scary skeleman. They remembered Papyrus' voice, meant for ears other than Chara's, musing that Sans never told anybody anything. They peeked into a telescope through Frisk's eyes. They were along for the ride when a tower of hot dogs wobbled into being. They knew about a love for science fiction that had maybe been buried under countless timelines' worth of apathy.
They saw a machine that would never work again. They, too, told themselves.
don't forget.
For a moment, their smile goes surprisingly... childlike. They even giggle.]
That's no way to speak to the legendary fartmaster.

[He can't remember what it's like to not be tired.]
[He heaves a long sigh.]
naivete? that's what you think it is? heh. sure, you were along with frisk for the ride. makes sense you'd have seen all that stuff.
and you think cause you found a busted old machine, some pictures...that that's all there is to it? you think you know me front and back just from that and a couple of fights?
heh. now who's being naive?
[At the end of the day, even Sans doesn't really know. Who's he to guess what other versions of himself are thinking? The only thing he can really guess at is just what would happen to him if Papyrus died.]
i'm just not the kind of guy to spill his guts. don't have any to spill, you know?
[His usual grin is firmly back in place.]
thing is, you really don't know anything about me. and you're not going to. so you can "poke holes in me" all you want as you put it, and it's not gonna change a thing. try to make me squirm, try to kill me, probably succeed on both counts. you'll get nothing from me. nothing but a bad time. sooner or later, that's what it comes down to. and that's the thing about this place...if there's no rules, no script...
well, i'm free to mix things up.
i'll be keeping an eyesocket on you, kid.

It's all Chara has too, so at least they're starting off on equal ground.
But they're not here to be friends. Good friends, good food, bad laughs... those were always meant for someone else. No, what they got were the bad times. They were here to be a weapon, to feed only off the split-second chime of LOVE increasing, the wild thrill of a heroine's spears cutting them down, the visceral struggle of facing someone who had nothing left to lose.
And even here! Even now! It was still so easy to coax it out of Sans. Not a single ghost of a reason to fight anymore, except for whatever threats and provocations Chara could muster up, and they were already safe and secure in a promising little cocoon of impending bad times.]
That's exactly as I want it, Sans. Like your brother, you're. Forgettable. There's nothing worth knowing.
You can tell yourself I don't understand you all you like. I suspect that, too, is part of the reason behind my summoning. I will be the one, then, who wants it to end for the bad reasons. Who is tired out by the wrong cause. The one promises don't truly apply to.
And you... you'll give me nothing but a bad time, and I'll relish every second of it. How lucky for me. Even when nothing changes, I still have something new to look forward to.

[It's not like Sans wants to fight anyone. He never wanted to fight. He just...had to. Because when things got to that point, what else was there to do? It was that or just stand by and let everything end. And hadn't he already stood by long enough?]
[What he doesn't understand is how he could let it get to that point in the first place. Why didn't he move sooner?]
[Whatever.]
[There's no point in continuing this. There's not a single thing he can say to this kid to change how things are.]
be seeing you, kid.

Incomplete. Imperfect. They'd be experiencing another do-over in the near future.
Even when nothing changes, they still have something new to look forward to.]
Sooner than you think.
[And with that, they cut the feed. End the call. Drop this stupid camera-phone-talky thing. Crush it under their heel until the plastic casing splinters. Just because they can. Just because they're sure they won't need it anymore.
They'll get a new one when things RESET.]
