Agent York | Red vs Blue

    Halls

Wyoming has expensive taste, that's all he can figure. How else would he have ended up in this mansion after going through the portal? This was meant to be his fortress, so York's logical conclusion can only be that appearances are deceiving. What he needs to do is find Tex, and find the location where she intends to fight Wyoming. And that means picking a few locks. Not a big deal at all.

What is a big deal is that Delta won't answer him, no matter how much he babbles. Which is what this has turned into—York testing the doors along this stretch of hallway while talking to himself.

"I mean, I understand trying to make himself hard to find, but Wyoming never was one to shy away from confrontation, you know?" he's saying to himself as he picks another lock. "I'm serious, D, I need an answer. Really bad."

The door opens and York slams it shut nearly as soon as it opens, seeing that there's no Wyoming inside. "Damn."

    Bar

It's become more and more clear that this is where he's going to remain, and he's come to know more about the amenities available, so he heads down to the bar for a nightcap before it's time for bed. He doesn't mean to be pensive, but the fact that things are weighing heavily on his mind may have a tendency to show in his expression. He gets a bottle of beer at the bar, sits down, and cracks it open. "Here's to destiny," he says to whoever's nearby, lifting the bottle in a toast. Because destiny never seemed very friendly to him—maybe he needs to respect those forces more than he does.

He swallows back a drink of his beer and looks at the bottle. "This is Wonderland, right?" he says. "It's a wonder I didn't shrink or something when I drank that."

    Wilderness

He's been exploring for some time. There's so much destruction and ugliness in the fields around. He doesn't know who the man is on the billboards but whoever it is, he isn't a good pitch man. The abandoned factory is the first place he sees that offers some sort of shelter, though it doesn't appear to be a good environment for someone seeking rest for the night, going inside is the only option if he wants to know what else is going on here.

"Well, look on the bright side," York says, shifting his gun down to his hip. "What's in there can't possibly be any worse than what's out here."

"..Delta's not here." It comes from behind him, the speech and mannerisms identifying York as easily as if Epsilon knew him personally, even if all the information he has comes from the date logs and files he'd taken from FILSS.

"But Carolina and Wash are, somewhere. She tends to kick me out when she's dealing with him though. Safer for all of us that way."

York turns, not exactly expecting the sight that greets him, but somehow not surprised when he sees what he sees—the image of an AI, hovering somewhere in midair. "You'll have to excuse me, I don't think we've met," York says. There's a lot about this that's going on assumption, and that tells him this AI knows him a lot better than York knows him. An easy thing to do at this point, but still.

"Not in person, no, but I've seen D's memories of you and some of your files from Freelancer. I'm Church." No need to drop the name Epsilon right now, not without Carolina here, anyway.

Not until he knows more about how that might go over, anyway.

"Oh, yeah, okay. Tex told me a little bit about you," he replies. "I guess you got your head on straight?"

"Something like that, yeah." York mistaking him for Alpha is probably better for everyone involved.

"Carolina's going to be really happy to see you. Wash too."
logicunlocked: (Let's think this through)

"You know, I'm not sure who's going to be the happier one, me or them." He comes closer to the AI, then leans back against the wall, arms crossed. "So, if you're here, why isn't D?"

Maybe, given that this is Wonderland and it seems to love messing with the people here, she shouldn't be surprised when she finds a familiar face. It's just that the faces that belong to the people who she knows as dead feel like they shouldn't be ending up here. Sure, Carolina knows that people can be brought here from anywhere along the timeline, but it still feels...wrong. Like she's dreaming. Like this can't be real because it's been years. Of course she's happy to see him again, but...it's simply hard to accept this as reality. Somehow, even harder than accepting that she's in Wonderland had been.

"Surprising, isn't it?" Stepping forward to slip into the seat across from him, there's just a second of hesitation before she casts a proper glance at York's face. It looks about the same as she remembers and god, even though she's come to terms with his death, it hurts. Not that she'll let on, instead offering him a soft but friendly smirk. "But so far, it seems like the food and drinks are normal. If you can call appearing from nowhere 'normal,' anyway."
logicunlocked: (All smiles)

[personal profile] logicunlocked 2016-05-21 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
He's shocked at her approach, yet in some ways it seems like it's meant to be for him to encounter her here, and when she speaks he lets his face settle into a pleased smile. Who cares about the impossibilities when it's been so long since they last spoke? Acting like this is normal and to be expected seems to be the tactic she's taking, and so he goes along with that. "Well, I still think I'll be reading the labels on things before I swallow. You got a favorite here?"

[personal profile] coverme 2016-05-21 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
Acting like this is normal is absolutely the tactic she's put into place, because acting like it's weird is too hard. She doesn't want to feel weird about this, so she's rolling with totally normal. So, this is easier, right? Especially considering she doesn't want to have to tell him about what happens to him. That was better saved for another time, not the moment they meet again, after all. So let this moment be an attempt at a good one.

"That's probably a good idea. Though, the bar is pretty safe. It's actually run by some other people who are stuck here, or so I've heard." Shrugging a little, Carolina's smirk quickly becomes a proper smile to mirror York's. It really is good to see him. "A favourite? Not really. I haven't been here all that long and my trips to the bar are...infrequent."
logicunlocked: (Making a point)

[personal profile] logicunlocked 2016-05-26 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mm, really?" He tilts his head just a little, then taps his fingers on the table. "I don't know whether to say that doesn't sound like you or not." There was a time—a time when he knew her, and when fun-loving and spontaneous described her to a T. But things change, and they were kind of different at the end of the Project there.

"We haven't seen each other in a long time, York." She points out, just barely commenting on the elephant in the room. Once upon a time, sure, bars and fun and spontaneity had been her thing. Sometimes she misses those days. But now? Things are different. It's hard to go through something like Project Freelancer and come out the same at the end, and even harder with all of the things that had followed. "Things change. People change."
logicunlocked: (Thinking)

[personal profile] logicunlocked 2016-05-27 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. Yeah, they do." He gives a one-shouldered shrug. "I know I have. I've had to."

"I think we all did." His words give her a very vague idea of where he must have been brought here from. Sometime after Freelancer, it has to be. She's just...not sure how long after. Seems like an important thing to find out but she can't bring herself to ask. Not just yet. "We've all had to adapt. Though it hasn't always been for the better."

Having not run into any of the others after the break in at the end of the Project, she has no idea how any of them may have changed. She's thinking of herself, of Wash... Sometimes she misses his naivete and optimism. Then there'd been Maine...

"But some of us wouldn't have made it as long as we have without it." 'Have' she says, when she knows for most of them it was 'had.'
