"Dead?"

Sure he had a limited lifespan, all AI did, but this was Church. This was the basis for all of them, he was the memory of a life that had been destroyed and still tried to find something to live for out of that.

"Wash managed to not screw something up huh?" The voice had a slightly emotional quaver in it. "No, don't be sorry. You're part of him, so he's," ANd there the voice hitched. "He's not really gone, he's just not here right now. But you are, and that's good."

"No, I'm better than him." The words are out before he can stop them. "I'm a hell of a lot better than him and I did the one thing neither or the Director could even consider." And then he just cuts himself off, his gaze fixing on her for a moment.

"Wash has done a lot of good things, so have Carolina and the guys." At least here he doesn't sound quite so angry.

"...And now you're back again."

"You got his ego." It was almost amusing, Church..Alpha had been the same way. He'd always felt like he was the best or the most of anything. He was surrounded by a universe of mediocrity.

"Carolina always will, she's a good soldier." She could nod agreement on that, but Wash? Well she'd seen him do enough stupid shit to question that just a bit.

"Yeah, guess that makes me the anomaly. Not that I was ever supposed to belong anywhere. But I did it? I got Omega away from them?" Just let her have gotten this one thing right, please.

"...Yeah, he died in the EMP with the rest. I think Meta got him from the ship crash, but that was a little before I got involved. I just..." Everything is always so complicated when it involves Tex.

"I fixed it for you, eventually though." after a moment, his anger fading. "I mean I did the same damn thing they did at first, but you told me something and it kind of stuck with me until I just...

I let you go, Tex. Well, the you I brought back. I ended the cycle.

....Sorry for being kind of a dick, I just...never expected to see you again in any form."

It was a lot to take in, but she was quick. She nodded, at least she could be at peace about having done one thing right. Maybe that was why he had been able to let her go.

"That's something. I guess." It was hard to see it from the side when she had been so unaware of what her life really was.

"No, no I get it. Neither of us are who other people were looking for. I've gotten used to that feeling, I know what it's like." She shrugged, she was the shadow they'd all discarded after all.

"Thanks for doing something right."

"..You know that's not really it, right? They couldn't let you go and that's what started the whole mess to begin with. Allison was such an obsession for the Director that it translated to Alpha and created you. You were the one who was unique out of all of us but it was their fault...

It was his fault you kept... you kept not being able to do things right.

Because of what happened to her. And I just...I didn't want you to have to live that life anymore."

"Hey it's not everyday a chick has to say thank you to a version of her boyfriend for killer her off so she didn't have to suffer." Humor, deflection. "Not like I fucking know how all this works."

She spread her arms and shrugged.

"I'm not Allison, I can't be someone's dead wife, dead mother and the best I had was being a nonexistant girlfriend with a fake history. By the time I found out there wasn't much I could really do except try and put a stop to things. I tried, I tried and like you said I always failed." What else could she do though?

"So that was what I knew, and yeah it was a cycle. You broke that and some version of me brought it to an end. So, thanks. For what you tried to do. I know I didn't have the strength to let you, any version of you, go."

"..I only did it because I thought I was about to die myself." And then he'd gotten a new lease on life thanks to Carolina.

"...And then they pulled me out of the memory unit... I wasn't exactly thrilled over it."

"On the brightside you don't have a built in relationship anymore." She huffed a rueful laugh.

"But then again you miss out on all this, so sucks to be you in that." She gestured at her form and then laughed a bit louder.

"Anything with me is going to be fucked up, just be happy you got out."

"...Not sure that's as much of an upside as you might think." After a moment and then he just shakes his head.

"You know that's not true, Tex. I just.." Jesus Christ, why did he always fuck this shit up.

"I don't want..I mean, I.

....How about we just start this over."

He was almost cute when he was flustered, it made him seem more..human? Whoa there was a mindfuck of an idea.

"Start over from where? We've got a lot of history to back track over." But it wasn't a no, and she wasn't immediately launching into a litany of insults or punches at him. So it had to be a good sign, right?

"Technically, your history is with Alpha. I wasn't exactly there, even if I have the memories. My history with you...or the you I brought out was ..." He's quiet for a moment.

"I got to watch her beat the shit out of the guys, shoot me to lure Wash and Meta out and then Meta trap her in the memory unit.

And then I went in there after her. I found her eventually and by then, there wasn't a lot of time left to do more than talk to her.

So really this is my first time meeting you."

Well there was a story. So Epsilon had the memories without having been there to live through them. It was like the life she'd thought she'd had.

"Sounds about like me." She nodded and laughed, clearly she hadn't been trying to kill him or she would have succeeded.

"Well if we're just meeting," She waved. "Hi, I'm Tex."

"Yeah, you probably would have liked the part where she was beating me with my former body." He shook his head slightly, form shifting from mobile to full sized so he was facing her.

"Carolina calls me Epsilon but the guys call me Church so your choice, really."

"Heh, yeah I woulda liked to see that. Granted you probably deserved it." Because any Church does something that stupid at some point.

"You called her, the other me Tex too, so I guess Church is ok for you. And I'm kinda used to tha name being attached to people that I have conflicted feelings about."

"Yeah, Caboose had stuck me in this alien artifact thing for a while. I had a fucking laser eye, it was kind of awesome." He's at least over the flare of anger and shifts slightly.

"..Feel like letting me hop in while you explore? I don't really like walking around like this."

"That sounds like Caboose, assuming he shot you at some point along the way."But him being a living weapon would be a new thing. "Could you actually hit anything?" Fair question given his accuracy.

"Letting you...inside me?" It sounded weird to say that, weirder to think. "Well way to go right for intimacy on the first date." She rubbed the back of her neck and shrugged. "Sure ok, let's do this."

"Well I tried to blow up Washington but I only destroyed a wall. Did kill some guy in brown armor though, out in the desert." He'd been about to kill Tucker, though.

"Asshole called me a thing."

And then he's just standing there because he's gotten used to riding along with Carolina and the guys and he hadn't actually thought about ..."Yeah, I'll just walk.."

"Brown armor? Freelancer armor?" CT? Well clearly not CT as Tex had ended that possibility but there was still her armor out there that hadn't been retrieved. Another failure on her part.

"I knew a suit that fell in with the Insurrectionists, or freedom fighters depending on who you ask."

"Hey don't be self conscious, I'm ok with it. I haven't had a ride along except with Omega so... He was aggressive." She stepped closer. "It's ok, maybe it'll even help."

"Called himself CT, yeah. Wash took Carolina back there and showed her. Guess it wasn't who they were expecting." He shifted his weight slightly and then took a step forward.

"...Okay." And it's not like the first time he's entered Tex's armor but the thing in the facility was different, He'd gone in to talk to her.

And this isn't her. He has to remind himself of that before he finally just steps forward, shifting back to his smaller form and then into her. It's a little less awkward in the small form, at least.

"...Yeah, I've dealt with him. He's difficult." He's now more or less floating over her shoulder.

"It must have been one of her Innie pals." SHe shrugged and decided that was better discussed another time, she didn't need residual guilt on her mind for this.

It felt odd, not uncomfortable but just a strange invasive sense that was nothing like Omega. There was none of the oppressive hostility he carried with him, it actually felt, maybe a little nice? At least on the inside he would see her as she had come to see herself. Human body and all.

"Difficult?" She snorted. "He was a bastard who wanted to kill, maim, destroy and take over everything." She clenched her fist. "He amped me up, when we were paired and I felt unstoppable. But in downtime he was never satisfied. He'd get restless and angry. Anytime I even thought about pulling him he'd lash out."

"I know what he was like, yeah. His memory was a little easier to control, but he was definitely there with me before I died." And this is probably the first time he's said it that easily.

"Doc developed a second personality based off him." Which was pretty unsettling, even if O'Malley was useful in a fight

"Sorry, I sort of feel like he was always supposed to be my problem to deal with. He and I, we had something he didn't have with anyone else. I guess it's because of who I am and he got the angry territorial parts." Each of them were parts of the original, and they all got something of that personality but concentrated. Omega had always considered her his property.

"He tended to do that, everyone except other Church. But hard for part of you to change you, I guess. Even Caboose was changed." Caboose's usefulness was in question from her point of view though.

"At least he's gone now." Along with the rest of them, although he kind of misses Theta and the rest, even though he could probably bring them back in his own space, but...

"...None of us deserved what happened to us." And that was honestly the crux of it.

That was easy for him to say, or maybe it wasn't. But for her there would always be a weight of responsibility on her shoulders. She was supposed to be handling him because of Omega's level of relative instability in others.

She was supposed to take out CT clean and return with her armor. She was supposed to end things once and for all. But she was never quite good enough.

Tex shook her head. "None of you did."
