[Toriel holds a hand over her mouth, laughing a bit. Half the fun of a terrible joke is in how terrible it is, after all.]
Ah, sorry. I thought that you might find that joke a bit more... humerus.
I do not believe I have seen any other skeletons before! [Technically true. Her relationship with the voice behind the door was one where they didn't talk about each other much. Didn't even trade names. So perhaps she should not tell him about it.]

[ he groans again. Hoping silently that the loud, unappreciative gesture will make her stop. Her words feel as if they're tickling his spine and that he might laugh if he's not careful.
hearing her say that she's never seen another skeleton before sets him at ease. Thank goodness. No wait-- ]
THEY'RE LIKE A DISEASE! THE TERRIBLE JOKES! A DISEASE! [ it almost sounds like he's trying to rationalize the fact that this new stranger is just dishin' out puns without any influence from Sans. Perhaps she's infected? Maybe she'll become a zombie!
Horrors abound! Papyrus is mostly just angry at this weird, fluttery, tickly feeling. Do not encourage the puns. ]

[...Do the kids still say that? She's not really sure.]
I wonder if there is any way to stop them from germ-inating?
[Maybe it's a liiiittle mean to keep going with these terrible jokes, but. It's hard to resist a bit of harmless teasing sometimes.]
HE'S TRYING TO BE STRONK
UNBELIEVABLE! UNBELIEVABLE!
[ He places a hand on his forehead as if trying to quell a growing headache. The hand falls from his forehead and sits against his mouth for a moment
he's trying so hard not to laugh. These are ridiculous. Sans hasn't thrown this many puns down in a while (at least since before their adventure in the Deep Roads) and hearing them, while annoying to a mild degree, really tickles his funny bone.
she tells another and he squeezes his jaw. Don't. Laugh. He theorizes and promises himself that if they know he laughed at the puns, both Chara's newly rediscovered mother and Sans both would never stop. And the puns are agitating after a certain span of time-- not funny at all.
Papyrus shakes his head. Shakes his head for a little too long. Just hold out. ]
You can do it Papyrus!
[She stops- steps away from the stove, moves to his side. Reaches over slowly, meaning to rest a palm on his shoulder, comfortingly. Her voice is calm, and gentle.]
I believe I may have taken it just a step too far. I was simply joking around, and did not mean to upset you.
I was not aware that listening to them would qualify as such a harsh pun-ishment.
[She delivers it completely straight, but makes sure to put emphasis on it. She just... couldn't resist. Sorry, Papyrus. Toriel offers no Mercy today.]
