"Right. Church." That more or less confirms her suspicions. Sounds like Epsilon, goes by Church, has a body, but doesn't even know who Epsilon is? It has to be Alpha, probably from before Wash finds him. This is definitely going to be...interesting. Honestly, Carolina's at a bit of a loss on how to handle it. Obviously she can't go off telling him about the truth, the way things really are... That's not necessary and it would likely only cause problems.

Better to go along with it. Go along with the story that he believes is his life.

"It's fine. I've heard about a few of your run-ins with other Freelancers." So it's not like, knowing now who he is, she's expecting any hospitality. It would make sense if, even without knowing any other Freelancers, he just had this dislike for the Project.

"If it makes you feel a little less on edge, I'm not actually part of the program anymore." Offering a stiff shrug, she's not sure it'll do much, and it's not a big deal if he's entirely uncomfortable around her regardless. Especially considering she's...got no idea what to do about him being here. Especially with Epsilon around. --And Wash. No, Wash should be fine if Alpha still thinks he's Church. Wash doesn't know about that yet.

"I'm not on edge!" Okay so, that came out a little more emphatically (and high pitched) than he would have liked.

So he's a little on edge. He's stuck in a strange place, with no way of going back and now he has to deal with Freelancers... or exFreelancers, whatever, the point is he has every right to be a bit on edge.

Alpha pauses and takes a moment to chill before going on. He's got this.

"But, yeah... I guess that's something." He shrugs back. If she left like Tex did, then maybe he can give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe.

"Okay," Carolina's not going to argue over whether he's on edge or not. That's pointless and petty, and she can see (and hear) perfectly well that he is on edge to some extent, anyway. Wasn't like she'd been asking for confirmation.

This is awkward, though. After Church speaks, there's silence, and she's not entirely sure how to break it. What is she supposed to say? Or do? Running into the Alpha is not something she's ever anticipated, not even here in Wonderland, so she's got no plan to run on. Not even an idea. And him not knowing, him thinking that he's just Church certainly adds some complication.

"You're new to the place, I take it." She manages finally, figuring the whole 'welcome to Wonderland' speech seems like the best direction to take. Steer things away from Freelancer and who else from their universe is here and focus on getting him informed of the situation at hand. "Just got here?"
