Places not being actively destroyed by giant machines are GREAT, but I'd really like to have chosen the place. Gardens are hard on air filters and I only have two extra in my pocket. Who wants to help problem solve?

B | past event : the feeling is a bit sadder the second time around, don't you think so?

[ tuffula valley would be depressing on a good day, but it's found a way to make today anything but a good day. tali's never comfortable in the outdoors, but the factory is even more depressing. somehow it has her thinking about her father, about how little she did to see how far he would go in order to try to keep a promise. now he was gone, along with so many other quarians who only wanted the best for their people, and tali wasn't able to help any of them.

so while she agreed to venture in for supplies (she's small, she can fit anywhere, in case they've missed something) she's given up her scavenging. someone looking for her, or poking around themselves, might very well find her sitting on the floor against a wall, head tilted back so she can stare up at nothing and analyze all the ways she's screwed up in the last few years. ]

C | the mansion roof

[ guess who is having a day of trying to make sense of the mansion! this girl. tali's gone back and forth between a few different places now, and finally winds up on the roof, angrily muttering under her breath. ]

Would it kill the windows to make sense?

[ maybe try reassuring her that magic is perfectly normal here. her logic need not apply. ]

[Shepard can't help but chuckle when she finds Tali muttering- just like old times, trying to figure out everything, even when it might never add up right. So she steps outside, leans against the outside wall, tries to look nonchalant.]

Not much makes sense here. I think it's part of the aesthetic? "We're all mad here" and whatever.

[She does jazz hands for effect, despite the fact that she only ever read this book after coming to Wonderland, so she's realizing belatedly Tali might not even know. It is old human literature, after all.]

[ of course shepard shows up to hear her muttering to herself and tali isn't sure if that just makes things worse or if it's better to look a little crazy in front of someone who already knows her so well. for now she just folds her arms across her chest, the reference lost on her. ]

I feel like I'm going mad alright. I'll admit that this place is nice - [ compared to cramped starships and burning cities. ] - but it's bugging me.

Yeah, I know that feeling.

[She walks over, passing Tali slightly to the edge of the roof, sitting down and swinging her legs over the side.]

It's not like me to be stuck in one place for a while, either. But there's not much we can do unless we risk someone innocent getting injured. Besides, I've... been trying to think of it like extended shore leave. Without the Reapers breathing down my neck.

[ tali stays put a moment, then follows shepard over to sit beside her, letting out a little huff of a breath as she gets comfy. ]

And without any weird clones either, I hope. [ let's not do that again. ] I don't know, Shepard, shoreleave feels like something you earn. I would've preferred it after we saved the galaxy again.

I get that, too. Maybe we can count that Citadel party as everything that's happened since the war started, and this as everything else? That time after the Collector base wasn't exactly shore leave.

[She laughs, but it's dry. She's restless here too.]

I wanna get out, too. It doesn't feel right not being there. I haven't been planetside this long since I was a kid. It's... fuckin annoying, to put it cleanly.

Planets have a weirder sort of quiet to them than the Normandy does. Annoying doesn't even really cover it. I feel like I have to keep breaking things just to get a noise to fall asleep to. [ this is the longest she's been on a planet, period. it's never been more than a few days before. she hums thoughtfully. ]

The party on the Citadel was pretty good, at least. Just what we needed. This is overkill.

You say that like I haven't tried, Miranda. She just keeps showing up to try to get me on board with her suicide missions.

[ she can't leave shepard. she's stuck on the normandy crew indefinitely. ]

On the flotilla maybe. But she shouldn't have been anywhere near Haestrom. And how was I to know she was going to come back to the dead just to show up at Freedom's Progress? (I blame that one on you.)

Don't even get me started on the citadel on my pilgrimage when I didn't know enough to say no to her!

[ it's just complaining for the sake of complaint now, because it's not like she would have said no that first time, anyway, no matter what she knew now. ]

( There's a frown as Tali speaks. Sure Jaylah hasn't been in Wonderland - or explored it as Tali has, but she doesn't see what the problem is )

Just because you can look out of them doesn't mean it makes sense.

[ she walks over to gesture at a bit of decidedly windowless roof. ]

There should be a window here, based on measurements inside the mansion. But there isn't, apparently because this building has a chronic problem with maintaining its layout from inside to outside.

It is roof. You don't need a window.

( She'd learned how to fix things and how to fight. This kind of engineering - structural design and whatever else Tali is thinking about is not in her forte. Maybe in the future but not now )

What sort of purpose would that serve? The rest of the building doesn't exactly scream concern for impenetrable structural integrity.

It is good when you want something hidden. I would hide something with no windows.
