[Jillian looks her over, gives a little grin, puts the device in what she hopes are good hands, then pulls the pencil out of her mouth, writing quickly even as she speaks.]

That, my new friend, is a way to figure out why my electroplasm readings are off the charts. WAY out there. [She pauses, looking over at her again.]

Have you ever seen a non-corporeal entity here?

[Shepard can't help but turn over the device in her hand a bit, careful not to turn it upside down so no parts fall off (not that she's sure any of them will, but can't hurt to be sure). She doesn't look up again until Jillian asks, and for once, she actually has to consider if she has.]

Ghosts? No. I saw zombies once though, but they're hardly the same thing, and that's not a usual occurrence. Sometimes weird shit just happens for a couple of days and then never again.

[She stops and thinks for a second.]

Though, if that device reads energy signatures left over from death, that might explain why you're getting so much feedback, considering people don't stay dead here.

[Right then, she stops everything, turning to face the woman fully. She just said at least three things that are completely blowing Holtz's mind completely, and she grins.]

I'd like you to repeat that. Possibly draw it out because it's amazing, but that's not required. You said something about zombies? Also I'm assuming when you say 'people don't stay dead,' you don't mean there are zombies here right now.

Do you?

[Oh, she's hopeful. She's so hopeful. Not that zombies would be good for anyone, she knows that, and her expression falls to one less giddy and more...well, she can't suppress the giddy.]

I'm gonna make so many new toys.

[She can't help but grin, getting more genuine the more Jillian talks. This is adorable.]

Nah, you missed 'em by a few months. This place takes people's memories, makes all of us live them for a few days every month. At one point the roulette wheel hit 'zombies'. Not as fun as you'd imagine.

[Lots of shooting, not sleeping, and going hungry, mostly. Not as fun as the movies make it seem.]

But as for the don't stay dead part, if you die here, you disappear for a day, and then come back, good as new. Something about the magic that runs this place. Heard there's some scientists working on figuring it out, but some people have been here years and still don't know why it happens.

[She shrugs.]

Sorry. Not as exciting an answer as you were probably expecting. Then again, it's not every day someone tells you "hey, death isn't permanent, how about that", so maybe it is.
