Nageki glares, annoyed at being so easily dismissed. "I talk," he says shortly.

She stares at the bird.

"Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo," she says. Because there's no way. No way.

Nageki isn't fading away. He stands there with a glare that's becoming colder than Antarctica. This, he is realizing, was a mistake.

"You-" Cassandra continues to stare. She inches closer, leans forward, and whispers loudly, "Are you magic?"

"No." His tone is still irritated, but Nageki is somewhat mollified now that she's no longer looking for a speaker. This is something he's become used to in Wonderland at least. "I'm from a place where birds evolved to become sentient."

She tilts her head to the side, certain she couldn't have heard that right. But she did. She heard it right.

Two seconds pass. One to confirm to herself that she heard right. The second to wonder if it was magic or science or why not both, and then the words fall from her mouth with barely any time for breath.

"Are you from someplace on Earth? Or from another Earth, because there aren't many talking birds around. I can't think of any, though I have met some dragons, and they talk. Where are you from? How do your jaw and tongue work to form words? Is it like a parrot?"

"I'm from Japan..." Nageki begins before he's overwhelmed by the barrage of words. There is no way for him to answer the human, so he keeps quiet and waits until he's sure she's finished.

Cassandra's mouth snaps shut in a frown, and she leans back, her hands clasped to her chest. "They have talking birds in Japan?" She tries to remember if she's read anything about talking birds from Japan at the Library.

"I know they have oni..." She looks again at the bird, curious. "Are you- what are you?" Abruptly, she shakes her head. "Sorry. I'm being rude. I'm Cassandra. Hi!"
