[To be fair, Bruce had already been kidnapped multiple times. His life has been in considerable danger. More than one person had tried to kill him. His soft-of girlfriend tried to pick a literal fight.]

[Comparatively speaking, this wasn't so ba--wait, what was that about 'magic'?]

I assume you're not talking about the kind performed on stage by a trained magician.

[Although he would not rule out some serious sleight of hand (or body) making this all possible. There were drugs. Hypnosis. The power of heavy suggestion. All this could be some elaborate illusion attempting to make others think they had been brought to some other world. As for the difference in memories...well...]

[That part, he could not explain. Yet.]

So people have been able to leave here. It is possible.

Not in the slightest.

[Sleight-est? Potentially bad puns aside, it would have to be quite an elaborate illusion indeed--and somehow still involve the drawing of people from alternate worlds and times. Such a thing would hardly be an easy feat, even from the perception of someone who has traveled through time on a regular basis for over a decade.

Ironically, the thought of them truly being there seems the simpler task to pull off.]

Possible, but as of yet beyond our control. And because people do not return to their proper place in time and location with any of their memories from this dimension, there is no way of letting any world beyond this one know what is going on--or of accessing the resources we might have had there.

[Example? A timeship, which Rip would dearly love to see land anywhere within this world.]

I see.

[If the pun registered at all, he gave no indication. The gears were turning so fast one could almost see steam wafting from his ears.]

If it is possible, then that's a start. It means there must be a way. We just have to find it.

[Oh, young Mister Wayne: Rip likes you already.]

Indeed. Hold on to that determination, Bruce. It will serve you well.

[Especially since there is still more; the introduction to Wonderland is a long and lengthy one, filled with hardly any good news. But he can offer Bruce something positive: they are stuck for the duration, but not left without any means.]

By now, you've no doubt noticed the mansion. It's where we're all currently housed, and also provides our basic needs: food, shelter, clothing and such. The magic I spoke of also comes into play here. Each room contains a closet, from which can be wished anything you think of--within reason.

[Rip had gotten a scale replica of the Waverider rather than the real thing, but it's still fairly impressive.]

[It was often in his job description as a young, budding socialite to please.]

I noticed.

[Kind of hard to miss something as large as a mansion. ~~Though Wayne Manor may have still been bigger. Just saying.~~]

A closet... [There was some shuffling around. A few jerky movements of the camera indicating movement. When Bruce spoke again, his face was off-center, eyes staring at something beyond the camera's field of vision.] I see it. How...does it work?

[So much skepticism. It must have been another trick of some kind; if it truly serviced the needs of everyone residing here...]

[Try walking down one of the halls to the very end, and then offer such an opinion.

Rip could wait; he has tried, and gotten rather far before he accepted that there is, in fact, no end.

At the moment, however, he instead grants Bruce the time needed to walk over to the closet. It's easy enough to assume what the boy is doing, given the shaky shots provided by the video.]

If it is like the one I used upon my arrival, you'll find it empty. To change that, think of what you want. Clothing or whatever; as I said, it provides almost anything, although there are limits to it. Something basic would be best.

[It seemed almost too unreal, even by Gotham standards.]

What limits?

[The questions gave him time to think of something simple to test this with. Something that would be impossible for anyone to guess. Something that would offer definitive proof of what was happening.]

I'm still discovering those for myself, to be honest. However--

[He turns his phone towards a set of shelves now set up in his room, strictly for the purposes of keeping things neat. Other than that, the decorations are rather non-existent; unlike many, Rip has not purposely altered his room beyond sheer function.

He has no desire to stay, so why make the place his own.]

When I first arrived, I attempted to see if I could wish up a particular...vehicle. [It's the simplest way to describe the Waverider without actually calling it a timeship.] I couldn't. But on asking for certain parts, I've gotten what you see there.

Individual components, but also not necessarily unique or uncommon. [Housing, minor engine parts, wires: those it seems he could get in abundance. Yet the things that truly made his ship able to travel through time, or Gideon's matrix? Remained off limits.]

[So size could be a factor. That wasn't so bad; even if he could somehow acquire one of his cars, it would do him little good without knowing where to drive it. And anything too rare...that made even more sense. No use wishing for something that the people behind the scenes couldn't find or replicate.]

[So what did that leave him?]

[Again, the camera shifted as he placed it down, giving a diagonal view of the closet. Cautiously, as if afraid it would shock him, Bruce placed his hand on the knob, turned, and...]

[There was a plate of sandwiches. And a pot of tea. With a kettle that looked...very familiar to him, as evident by the eyebrow raise.]

That's...impressive.

[He admitted, a little reluctantly.]

Quite.

[Especially for someone like Rip, who has years of going rather hungry in his past.]

There's also a kitchen and a dining room that provide much the same function, should you wish to prepare something yourself. The tea rooms offer something more akin to an afternoon snack, and a cafe run by some of the prisoners is located on one of the upper floors.

[As Bruce surmised in his initial broadcast: they are, at least, largely taken care of.]

[A kitchen...could actually be useful. Alfred had been teaching him to cook, and he'd already proven he could whip up impressive multi-course meals all on his own.]

What about a library?

Oh, yes. A rather large one. Although the location does seem to move from time to time.

[He frowns; it's a touch of randomness that really, Rip would rather do without.]

From what I've seen, it's typically located on one of the first three floors, near the stairs. There are a variety of rooms run by the assorted prisoners here...

Although I expect you are still a little too young for either of the bars around.

[Silently echoing Rip's words, Bruce very nearly missed the next part of his information. Although he did catch up in time to have something of an idea where to start looking--(How could an entire room MOVE?)--and even offered a smile when his age and bars were referenced.]

You needn't concern yourself with that. I assure you, I have no interest in attempting to sneak into any bars just yet.

[Alcohol would only dull his senses anyway. He needed to remain alert.]

[He does manage to catch a glimpse of Bruce's confusion, a wry smile crossing his lips.]

I did mention "magic," I believe.

[Because really, it's the only explanation Rip has to offer. Same for the closets; he's done a rather thorough investigation of his own to ensure there was no replicator technology within--and then saw the damage repaired within an hour.

As Martin would say? It's all rather fascinating.]

Good lad. [And likely clever enough to figure out that if he did want alcohol, he could ask for it from that same closet. Rip, however, won't spell that out for him.]

There is likely something for children your age as well; I know there are a number of them running around. [So even if his caretakers and his friends from home weren't present, Bruce might at least find someone his own age to relate to.] You'll find there are all kinds of people around here.

[He did mention magic, yes, although until Bruce was able to get a better grasp on what exactly that meant...he would really rather Rip didn't.]

I see.

I suppose I should go and introduce myself to them as well. Since we're all in the same situation together.

[It's a perfectly fair request, in all honesty. Rip still feels more than a little ridiculous having to say it so often.]

I think that might be wise. [He hesitates, however; there is still quite a bit more about Wonderland to cover, yet at the same time, he doesn't want to push Bruce back into that state of despair he saw glimpses of earlier.]

I should tell you, I haven't quite gone over everything you need to know about this world just yet. It's all still quite extraordinary, however. Why don't you take some time to absorb everything you've heard thus far, and then you can call me back when you're ready for the rest?

[It was...tempting. To stay and continue to listen. Straight answers. Ironic that a place that made even less sense than home would already give him more in a single conversation than years of research and reconnaissance had. But if there was one thing his experiment with the cabinet had taught him...aside from the fact that his captors seemed to have similar tastes in tea and sandwiches...it was that he needed to do more than just listen.]
