[For a moment, she's so happy that she forgets that answering the alternative is probably not considered normal by most people. Instead she nods cheerfully.]

Uh-huh! I've never been outside the gallery before, so the only sky I ever saw was in the paintings there.

[And then she's skipping over to come closer to the other kid... perhaps a little too close into one's personal space, honestly, but she has a huge smile on her face all the same.]

I'm Mary! What's your name?

[It's startling, still, to hear someone ask their name. She looks like a human, but it's hard to tell sometimes.]

Frisk.

[Their expression are much more subdued, the twitch of their lips and the relaxed lines in their face the sole indicators of their confusion and their joy.]

You lived in a gallery?

Yeah, with my big sisters and everyone else there.

[But who cares about that place--]

So you're Frisk! Are there other kids here too? [... Oh!] Do you know Ib, by any chance?

[She had a family. That's...lovely, in its own way. A nice thing for everyone, even if they can't really think of what it would be like, having sisters or brothers or siblings aside from Chara. Chara's the only sibling they have and need.

Frisk shakes their head, their mouth twisting, regretfully.]

There's lots of other kids. I don't know any "Ib."

[And on an impulse, before they can stop themself - ]

Sorry.

Oh...

[And for a moment, she looks disappointed. However, it doesn't last very long as, quite suddenly, Mary's reaching out to try to grab Frisk's hands to hold with her own.]

That's okay, that just means you and I can be friends! You'll be... well, not my first friend because that was Ib, but you'll be the first boy I've ever befriended!

[... Garry doesn't count, because Garry is a grown up and a loser.]

[Maybe she doesn't realize. Maybe she's from an older time? Dorian messed things up the first time with Chara, but he was so...older and easily baffled by things like phones and technology, so maybe that was because of when he lived?

Not everyone gets them.

They're not sure. Either way, they fumble slightly when she seizes their hands, startled by the abrupt contact. It's easier when it's kids. Always easier. Shouldn't...be selfish, shouldn't tug away. So they don't. Try and smile, politely.]

Really?

[Mary frowns for a moment at that, before she nods.]

Okay, if you say you're not, then I guess you're not! [Does that mean Frisk is a girl, then? But, rather than voicing that question out loud--] It doesn't matter if you are or not, because we can still be friends anyway, right?

I'm a kid.

[A shrug of their shoulders. It's not very complicated, but they suppose it can be for other people. They're not sure if Dorian really understands, even if he tries his best now.

Another smile, now, less shy - almost relieved that they don't need to explain.]

'Course we can.

So am I! [hee hee] And kids should stick together and help each other out... or at least friends do, anyway. That's what it says in one of my books.

[So!]

Tell me more! What is this place like? Are there any fun things to do here?

[She...likes to read a lot, then? That's what they'll have to guess. There's lots of things that can enchant a kid who's spent her whole life in a gallery. Maybe they'll hold off on introducing her to the Second Gallery that Max set up for a while.]

There's a library full of lots of books. And, um...magic closets that can give you almost anything you ask for.

[gasp] Really? Anything?

... Would I be able to get candy from these closets? Or "macaroons" and "parfaits"?

[Is she saying the names of these desserts right?]

The kitchens give stuff like that for free.

[They, um...is "parfait" a candy? It's not entirely clear, but maybe it could be, the way Mary was talking about it. Their nose wrinkles slightly.]

What's a "parfait"?

It's... um, this treat that's got ice cream and fruit in it, I think?

[She's not exactly sure what it is herself aside from it being a popular dessert item apparently.]

[It...sounds pretty good? It takes them a moment as they contemplate it, lifting a finger to tap on their chin with comical deliberation before their expression breaks into a one-sided, uneven smile.]

You wanna find out?

[gasp]

Yes! Let's go find the kitchen!

[And she reaches out to tug on Frisk's arm in... some direction here.

(Mary you have no idea where you're even going, maybe you should let Frisk lead the way.)]

[They can appreciate her enthusiasm, at the very least. A startled huff of noise escapes them through no intent of their own, a soft hitching in their throat at the abruptness of the motion, the unexpected nature of the touch.
The envy of someone who clings and holds freely.
They don't quite dig in their heels, but they chime in with a quick word - ]

Do you need help finding it?

[...]

Oh. [Um] Where is it?

[Good job making her realize she doesn't know where to go here.]

[That's okay. They can be the asterisk that tells people where to go, for now. They've never been the guide before. It's not a role that suits them, but they can do their best.

They keep a gentle hold on her hand.]

I can take you.

[It's not a command, or even a statement; it's merely a suggestion, small and easy.]

[Mary thinks about it for a moment before she nods.]

Okay! We'll follow you, then!

[Show us the way, Frisk!]

[Show the way they do, leading her along until they end up in the kitchen. It's nondescript, as far as kitchens go, but they quite like it.]

You can just ask the place for whatever you want, and you can get it.
