[ He makes a note to go looking for those residents as soon as possible, nodding at Bruce's words. ]

I remember.

[ Bruce doesn't have to beat around the bush with that, but Clark doesn't want to bring it up needlessly. It's a tough subject without what's going on around them. ]

Thank you for rescuing my mother. I didn't get the chance to, before.

It was the least I could do. I couldn't -- [The words are difficult to articulate, something he hasn't said out loud but had certainly felt in the moment. He couldn't save his own mother, but he could save Clark, and in that moment he had remembered why he became Batman to begin with.

He clears his throat.]

No one should have to lose their parents like that.

[ Clark looks away, focusing his senses on the wind in the garden. He read up a little, after they'd met, but judged Bruce to be a typical socialite with too much time on his hands and would have left thinking that was all there was to him. The loss of a family is unimaginable. Even Clark without a world had the Kents, and Lois. ]

Er, do you know who the mysterious woman with us was?

[The only family Bruce has left is Alfred, and if he didn't have him he'd probably be much worse off than he already had been. Losing his parents had been bad enough, but after he lost Jason as well he had withdrawn into himself in ways that were largely unhealthy. ]

Her name is Diana. She's helping me find the others like her I discovered through Luthor's files.

[ Of course Luthor had files. It felt like he knew everything. Clark settles into the chair, and his incredulous expression turns thoughtful. ]

How many others? What are you planning to do?

I'm forming a team. People who can work together to protect the planet. I have a feeling we'll need it sooner as opposed to later.

[The weird vision he had of the future comes to mind, for one thing. Also the cryptic message Luthor had given him when he visited the man in prison. The bell has already been rung.

They have to be prepared.]

[ It's a dream, and Clark is briefly envious he isn't going to live to see it. ]

Part of Luthor's plan, or something new?
