[ At that point, her mouth does curve into a smile. Lucifer was always the type for making his own rules, to a distressing agree. One of the few things they had in common was how much they both cared about justice... They just came to their conclusions in very different ways. ]
You actually remind me of a friend of mine.

[He smiles more widely, making a joke of the comment. He's sure he'll make his own impression, either way.]
In the meantime, if you need help- I'd ask someone else, personally. People usually don't like asking me for favours.
no subject
I don't like owing for favors, either. But I think you've helped a little. I'll figure out the rest.
no subject
[Sometimes working out the rest is not an easy process, after all. He relaxes, though, sitting back in a chair, still not sure how he feels about this helping business but not... entirely displeased by the end result.]
Well, it's a small world, so I may as well introduce myself in case we meet again. I'm Loki.

[ She relaxes a little too, having been truthful about how she felt he was helping. His name does catch her off guard, though, and she gives him a slightly skeptical look. Tick another box of why he reminds her of Lucifer. What was with her and guys with these types of names? ]
Chloe. It's nice to meet you. ...Is that your real name?
no subject
[Everything else is all very complicated, but not that. He gives her another smile, thin and sharp.]
You wouldn't be the first to find it hard to believe, but what reason would I have to lie about it?
no subject
[ She grimaces, not having meant to offend him. ]
I, uh. My partner's name is Lucifer and I asked him the same thing when I met him. I guess I just haven't heard a lot of unique names like yours where I come from. At least not... human names.
no subject
[He's managed to make himself a little wiggle room on what Loki is, recently, but still- Loki is Loki, and he can't be anything else.]
Well, that would explain it. I'm not human.
no subject
[ She tries not to sound too sarcastic, but dealing with Lucifer has given her a certain level of tolerance for people who say weird and inexplicable things. ]
I have. I don't know how much I buy it, though. I think sometimes it's easy for people to think parts of who we are is somehow out of our hands or predetermined.
no subject
[Technically. Adopted, as people sometimes point out- particularly when he's at his worst. He settles in, chin resting on the back of his hands, voice turning to something a little more distant.]
That's why it's not quite the same. You're Chloe, yes? One of many, scattered all over the world and throughout the history of the name. But imagine there's only ever one Chloe, and everyone expects that one Chloe to always be- an agent of justice, we'll say. And because you are the Chloe, then everyone expects you to be the same- even the universe. Something like that, but insert Loki, god of mischief instead of Chloe, agent of justice, and you'd be about there.

[ Said completely deadpan. Hey, who is she to judge? She's never really given Lucifer a hard time, as much as she feels like his claim to being a fallen angel has more to do with his own confusion about his life than actual truth. No point in starting to judge now. ]
I guess that makes sense if you think about it that way. But if the - uh - the whole universe expects you to be whatever you are, and you don't like rules, wouldn't you want to be something else? And if you're something other than what the world expects you to be, are you someone else or are you still fulfilling some expectation of the universe? [ She pauses then, smiling and shaking her head. ] You know, philosophical conversations about names really was not what I was expecting. I guess I'm just glad I'm not the only Chloe. It seems like it would be a lot of pressure.

[He doesn't mean to sound sarcastic, he's just genuinely unsurprised. It's not like Loki comes from a world where myths and religious beliefs all stay neatly in their boxes, so although he can't remember ever meeting the devil, he's met a few demons in his time and the name isn't unfamiliar.
His tone changes again, something a little defiant creeping in.]
Oh, yes. I might be the only Loki, but I'm hardly the first. The last one died so I could be something different. That doesn't mean my universe wouldn't like me back in the same old box, doing the same predictable things.
[He shakes his head as well. The conversation is a little too close to home, touching on all the questions he's still trying to work on and his secret unforgivable crime.]
Well, that's an old story now, I suppose. No doubt you have better things to do than listen to gods have existential crises and talk about names?
Sorry about the delay on this! Figured I would tag in case you are still interested :)
[ Man, when did her life get so weird? Granted, after being here a while, she's started to wonder if maybe Lucifer had been telling the truth the whole time. She can't dwell too much on that, though - she's not quite in a place where she wants to measure the pros and cons to being the best friend of the actual devil. ]
Not really. I mean, I obviously don't have a whole lot going on for myself at the moment. Besides, there are a lot of interesting people here. It's given me some... perspective, I guess.
