Oh, I don't think it is, either, [ she says, grabbing handfuls of frustratingly cumbersome skirts and motioning with a jerk of her head for b'elanna to walk with her. ] If you ask me, this place is almost sentient in nature. Alive and very aware of what it's doing and who it's doing it to.
no subject
[ this is a pattern b'elanna is comfortable playing out. from the outside, she imagines it must look very much like she and janeway are competing even as b'elanna falls into step with her. ]
OK, I'll bite. What makes you think that?
[ in reality, they feed off of this back and forth. the problem-solving process made into a game. ]
no subject
[ very much a pattern, and the captain thrives off the push and pull of a good scientific debate/discussion. ]
no subject
her nostrils won't stop flaring. ]
So we... find a power source and disrupt it.
[ but even b'elanna doesn't sound all that convinced (the amount of power it would take to do what this place has done would be immense). she just really dislikes having no input whatsoever. she chews her lip. ]
Or find whoever's in charge and disrupt them.
no subject
[ disrupting them would come later, but you bet she was 100% game for that. kidnap her? fine. kidnap a member of her crew? oh, hell no. ]
no subject
[ yet again it's her trust in her captain's ability to throw down that tempers b'elanna's reaction. she sighs deeply, blowing the air out in a rush. ]
I think it's all a smokescreen, now that you mention it. I haven't been able to identify the frequency that's blocking communication, but I have a subprogram running to scan each potential band.
[ which could take years and is the sort of gamble someone takes when they've done everything else they could think of. a space hail-mary if you will. and unfortunately, it seems even that won't be a viable solution: ]
I get positive results from every single one.
no subject
she stops, brow knitting together as the gears in her head begin to turn. ] All of them?
no subject
[ but having quadruple-checked herself at this point, b'elanna is pretty sure her routines are fine. it's wonderland that's the damn problem. ]
I also can't find anything powering these "magical" closets.
no subject
Magical... [ a slight scoff, roll of her eyes, and shake of her head. yeah, she doesn't buy that. magic wasn't real, and no amount of proof could convince her otherwise. there was a scientific explanation for everything, and the implausible was simple that which had yet to be explained. ] It's there. Somewhere. Hidden, most likely.
no subject
Somewhere deep. Did you find a device on you when you woke up? Not Starfleet-made. Some kind of low-power primitive access point to a local net. It seems to have a moderate amount of communications on it.
[ she probably would've found more use in hers had she not smashed it to bits after seeing the sort of things that were on it. ]
no subject
[ which clearly serves to annoy her. janeway feels more at home in her pips than anything else these days, and half the civilian clothing she packed before voyager left the alpha quadrant are still sitting in that container she shoved into her closet upon departure from DS9. ]
Keep your combadge on you. I would rather not to rely on such archaic technology if we don't have to.
