A. ARRIVAL
[She had only closed her eyes for a moment. Just a moment and...

And then, everything stopped. It stopped so suddenly that at first she thought she might have fallen asleep, but she's realizing now that she's very aware of the sensations around her. She's curled up, laying in snow. It's cold outside, but...not as cold as she thought it might be. The world is quieter than she's ever heard it before. Not in a bad way though. There's no cars. No bustling of people. It's quiet like night, but she can feel the sun.

She waits for something to happen. When nothing does, she opens her eyes and sits up.

She's...on the grounds of a fancy western-style mansion, it looks like. The kind that you read about in fairy tales or see in movies. Honestly, she's never seen a house so pretty before.]

...Mom?

[No answer. Kayo isn't sure whether that fills her with delight or dread just yet, but it's enough to make her stand up. She brushes the snow off of her bare legs, and adjusts her skirt in the hopes of making it a little longer.]

Hello? ...Is anyone here?

[When she doesn't immediately get an answer, she mutters a quiet "Forgive the intrusion" to herself, a stock phrase just so she can feel like she's done everything she was supposed to under these circumstances. Then, she starts to wander the grounds. She puts off going inside as long as possible.

She wonders for a moment if this is the place she wrote about in her essay, but then she immediately dismisses the thought as stupid. Somebody must live here. Why would there be such a big house with no one living in it?]

B. SETTLING IN
[It turns out she isn't alone, but she still isn't sure what to make of Wonderland. How she's supposed to feel about it and how she actually feels are two very different things. There are people she misses, but there are more people she's very glad to be away from.

She isn't sure how she feels about the people who are here with her. They aren't all from situations like hers, she knows that immediately. Most of them aren't even Japanese, but somehow she can understand them perfectly when they speak to her. She doesn't know how to take them, so she's been trying to keep to herself until she's more certain of them.

Today she's found a tearoom far away from...not her room, but the room she's claimed for the time being. She's taken a small amount of yarn from the closets and parked herself in a comfortable spot in the corner, to start knitting something. It will be a pair of mittens eventually.

It's...nice. To be able to do whatever she wants whenever she wants to.]

[Souji stumbles upon Kayo in the tea room. Although he works in the diner, he likes visiting the tea rooms for snacks. It's nice to eat somewhere other than where he works and to eat food other than what he made for himself.

He pauses when he sees the room is already occupied.]

Oh, hey. Sorry.

[He doesn't leave immediately, though, in case she's okay with sharing the room with him.]

[She's been trying to tune out the sound of people walking in the halls, but this time she's done so a little too well - when Souji addresses her she startles, and tries to hide her project behind her.

But, after the initial spook, she steels her expression.]

...

...Did you need this room?

[She can go. It's fine.]

[He shakes his head.]

I was going to get some cookies.

[Sure he could MAKE cookies, but sometimes you just don't want to bother.]

...Do you want some?

[She does, but it takes her a long time to answer as she weighs her options, the pros vs. the cons.

There's no one here to tell her not to accept handouts though. No one can stop her, but she still hesitates.]

...I guess. You don't need to do it just because I'm here.

Share? It's not a problem.

[He comes over to the table and a plate of assorted cookies appears there a moment later. He nudges it toward her.]

You can have as much as you want.

[ She isn't the only one wandering the grounds. There's a skinny black teen in a blue puffer jacket walking around with a notebook and pencil, making marks in the book as he goes. He's trying to draw a map, or taking notes on the layout of the grounds.

He doesn't notice the girl until he's almost on top of her, engrossed as he is in his writing. ]

Oh! Uh. Hello. Do you live here?

[The two of them nearly collide, but Kayo moves out of the way in time. Honestly, he seems so absorbed in what he's doing that she's mildly surprised he noticed her at all.

She shakes her head at his question though. It feels like a stupid question - does she really look like someone who would live in a place like this? But she doesn't even have a clue how she got here and he's older, so she avoids her trademark question.]

I...just arrived. I guess.

[ His face instantly shows how dejected he feels by her response. He'd been hoping for a brief second she might have some kind of answers. ] Oh, then you can't help me.

[ But then he reminds himself that that's rude, and shakes his head. ]

I mean, I just got here too, a couple hours ago.

[If she's sorry she responded that way, she doesn't look it. She keeps her face stoic and resolved. Why would he expect a random stranger to help him? It's not like she expected anyone to help her.]

Were you kidnapped?

[A blunt, but honest question - frankly, she's starting to wonder if that's what happened to her as well.]

Was I-- [ He looks away, puzzled by the question. ] Was I kidnapped? Huh. I dunno.

[ He looks back down at her. ] Is that why you're here? Did somebody kidnap you?
