Not that she blames sleep, Amy likes Rory more than herself as well so she can relate.
Which is neither here nor there as she stares at her drink like it's offended her for not doing enough to make her sleepy. She takes a gulp anyway and sets it down. Not on a coaster because she's used to Rory moving it to a coaster for her.
"I'm starting to think there is some merit in the Mad Tea Party because going mad here seems like a logical step." Honestly.

Certainly not so well as the man whose face Rip happens to share.
"It is one option, although must of us try to avoid it." Once he's lowered his glass again, Rip rests his arms against the counter, leaning forward into them. "With varying amounts of success to be sure--yet any measure of success should count as a victory in a place like this, I think."
no subject
Rip has a beautiful face, but it's not her Rory.
"I suppose," Amy murmurs, like she's considering it. Maybe she is. Maybe's she's not. In either case, she huffs out a heavy sigh, making a face at her glass like the alcohol has betrayed her in not making her feel better like it promised. "Sometimes I'll say something and people will look at me like I've already gone 'round the bend." She taps the journal with her index finger. "I thought writing it down would help but it really does just make my life seem impossible."
no subject
Things rarely are.
She talks about the uniqueness of her life, and for a moment Rip looks like he might actually grin. The corner of his mouth twitches up, clearly, for all of a moment but it definitely happens. "Perhaps those people haven't been here long enough to embrace the idea of impossibilities. It shouldn't take them too long; just until the right event hits, or one of the more unlikely creatures makes themselves known over the network."
He looks over at her--at her journal. Of course Rip can't read it from here, but he thinks of what he might write down in his own pages, were he that sort of person. "However improbable, you still lived it. It remains your life."
And given that they are in a realm known for stealing memories, it's an important concept to hold onto, Rip thinks.

He does, however, have an entire jungle planet populated by many doppelgängers because that planet is populated by many Rorys.
(Amy quite liked that planet because all the Rorys worshiped her as their goddess.)
Her head shakes the tiniest bit to make herself move on back to the topic of Rip being an impartial, third party observer. "If, for argument's sake, your daughter created an alternate reality in order to save her future husband and you, hypothetically, committed a crime there. Would it still count once the alternate reality dissolved and actual reality started back up again?"
no subject
(And for the record, no. Rip wouldn’t be worshiping her any time soon.)
He considers her hypothetical—one presented in a way that makes him suspect it’s anything but—while at the same time taking a slow sip of his drink. Once he lowers the glass he slides a fingertip along the rim.
“That’s a rather complicated matter. One would have to consider if the effects of this crime are carried over into the restored reality or if they had been undone—although that doesn’t mean the memories have been lost.” Certainly not for one person in particular, and Rip gives Amy a long look. It’s not hard to figure out what she’s really asking. She’s done something, and she’s trying to find resolution for it within herself.
With the advice of a person who looks like her husband, but in fact isn’t.
“You remember—in this entirely hypothetical situation, of course.” Because naturally, they can’t reveal that this is, in fact, a real scenario. “Which leads me to believe that whether or not it’s a crime is incidental. You still carry the weight of it.”

At least Rip agrees with Amy. It still counts. Even if River's fractured reality had collapsed and never existed in the first place, Amy remembers all of it and everything she did in that universe still counts. Including proposing to Rory and murder.
Leaning against the bar, she tucks her chin into her hand, thoughtful but trying not to dwell on the past. "Do you have children, Mr Hunter?"
no subject
It always will, because the answer will forever be a painful one to give.
"I did. A son." He no longer looks at her, his gaze instead locking on his glass. His hands wrap tightly around it, although he resists the urge to drink--barely. It won't last. "He was killed."
Slaughtered by a madman, just as his wife had been, and now Rip swallows back more of his drink than he likely should in a single go.
no subject
And guilt that she feels grateful she at least had that and didn't lose Melody completely.
"I'm sorry." It's not a pitying condolence, full of some kind of quiet empathy and compassion that speaks to the experience that still isn't quite the same. "River is my and Rory's daughter."
Their daughter who is old enough to have a future husband and opinions on alternate realities she brought into existence even though Amy is not nearly old enough to have a daughter capable of any of that. Maybe a ten year old, she's old enough to have a ten year old seeing as she and Rory just had their ten year anniversary.

Miranda might quite literally kill him if he tore apart time just for her.
Far easier to parse the rest of what Amy says, then. Rip doesn’t miss that the person whom he had assumed was a woman should only be a girl if Amy’s appearance is any indication. He takes another long drink, considering it, then sets down his glass with a softly huffed out breath.
“Time travel?” It’s not a simple explanation per se, but for Rip, it’s an ordinary one.
