With limited numbers and having been trapped, Monsters had to find ways of dealing with things without violence and pain. Hugs and talking, comforting words and good food just came to be the norm. Mostly thanks to his parents as King and Queen. They set an example and with Asriel could live by it. At least, as long as he was alive. Asriel liked hugs. It was nice to wrap his arms around someone and to have that comfort returned. He didn't squeeze hard or try to keep Frisk close. He wanted to make sure they could pull away at any moment.

He had asked why they went to Mt. Ebbot and received silence and a look that told him to let it go. So he had and hadn't thought of asking again. It wasn't his place to ask but he was sure it was bad. He would do his best to be a good friend. A friend they could count on. A friend that wouldn't disappear. For as long as he could.

"Yeah. It's okay. I'll be okay."

[determinedest]

"It's a little strange, at first." Automatic words, spilling out easily, as simple as any other orientation anyone else would receive upon arrival. Less tumultuous, this go around. That's better, for everyone involved. Quieter. More patient.

"But it's not so bad. The closets are magic. They can give you...anything you want. And M - " Still making that mistake, even now. Correcting themself just makes it even more obvious, the pained hitch in their throat as they force themself to continue. She can't be that for them. Not after all they've done to her. "And Toriel's here. Asgore, too. They've missed you."

They...made a promise.

They hate promises.

Good. Mom and Dad were okay. He knew they missed him and he missed them too. He nodded slowly and pulled back now. He looked at Frisk for a moment. Frisk didn't call them Mom and Dad. He wouldn't ask and wouldn't push. Still, it was worth noticing. Did something happen here or was it just how Frisk felt? Either way, that was between Frisk and his parents. He smiled again.

"Do you want to go get some food? I'm hungry. What about you?" He asked.

They've never earned that. Maybe they never will. She can't be that for them, and Asgore...they won't force him, either. They've lost enough children. And someone like them, they're only ever good at getting lost.

They draw back, trying for a smile. The corners of their eyes pinch slightly, an incremental lift at one side of their mouth.

"Okay. The kitchen can get us...whatever you want, really."
