[ not a question. gamora may as well have growled the word. if pressed, there are plenty of memories she mightn't mind dumping -- but that's before broaching the question of where that would leave her. who would she be without those hellish cornerstones?

It doesn't make any sense. [ wonderland is stupid. ] What good are memories to them?

Beats the hell out of me, aside from the fact that this place just eats 'em up- possibly literally. You can't swing a stick without hittin' somethin' that's either taking memories, or changing memories, or broadcasting memories or whatever.

[ -- a grunt in the back of her throat. angry, if not outraged. rocket had been right to predict her indignation. it's a blessing for those vendors that she's nowhere near them.

the device picks up a clang. metal on wood, maybe. like a knife-hilt slammed against a table. the other guardians might often prove themselves a touch more short-fused than gamora, but that doesn't mean her fuse isn't still (by most measurements) damn narrow. ]

Have they taken any of yours?

I ain't stupid enough to do anything that'd take them permanently.

[implying that it's a matter of stupidity- some of it is. (don't go into the Core, don't get things from the Vendors.) Other things, however...]

But on some rare occasions, I have forgotten who I am for a little while.

[he doesn't go into the times he forgot what he was. that was terrible.]

[ -- either because it sounds ridiculous, or else because rocket boasts such a forceful personality. that he should forget himself seems impossible.

gamora's not certain she could ever forget him. some pains in the ass stick with you. ]

[ -- it's a double-edged question. on one hand, it speaks to her faith in his ability to wriggle out of a tight spot. on the other? well. there's an implicit criticism. ]

[Rocket takes the implicit criticism as the absolute majority of it and it does not sit well. He knows he's better than this. He's up to twenty four prisons now, if you count the brig.]

I can't break out of a prison that ain't got a frickin' door. I don't know how people move in and out, ergo I can't formulate a plan.

[Rocket snorts] You must really take me for an ametuer. There was this broad here a long time ago- Carol Danvers. Chick could fly like nobody's business. Couldn't break the atmosphere.

[ -- a growl of frustration. she doesn't want to believe rocket; why should she? but she knows better than to think he's got a reason to lie about this. other things, maybe, but not this. ]

Now you're getting it. If a place is good enough to keep me trapped for this long, then it's got something I've never seen before workin' it, but I'm still lookin'.

[ a moment of silence. gamora weighs her options -- obviously, she wants to get out of here. obviously many people do, and she knows rocket can't be the only one looking for an exit.

but she offers her next statement more in solidarity than in practicality: ] Now I'm looking with you. We might have a better chance of it together.

[ she's grown fond of her team. she has more faith in them working together than working alone. she suspects he does, too -- he may simply be less inclined to voice so. ]
