diana of themyscira | wonder woman (dceu)
[ a tall, densely-muscled woman sits by the exit, dressed in sleek monochrome. as people leave, they find her hand is open, extended in a greeting she learned in a time of war. one that's proven to be more powerful than the swing of a sword, no matter the time or place. ]
Good morning. Will you talk with me for a few moments? I promise I won't keep you long. [ she smiles around those broad vowels that speak of a woman who learned english after her native language. her shoulders sit back in what looks like an easy confidence, as if she's not worried about her sudden kidnapping. all of her attention is on who she's speaking with in this moment. ] My name is Diana, I'm new to this place.
[ she pushes the seat across from her out with a toe, and gestures toward the seat. ]
( TEXT | anonymous )
What kindness have you offered others lately?
no subject
And Sara expects that she is smart.
She slips into the offered chair with ease, holding her gaze and leaning forward into the table. There's something about this woman that interests her, and it's not what she's already figured out )
Sara. I don't know how much I can help, I don't really know a lot about this place, but I can tell you what I was told when I got here.
( She's not been there long herself but she's also not entirely telling the truth. Sara's figured out a few more things about Wonderland than what she's been told, but never play all of your cards )
no subject
[ it has been a very long while since diana has felt the sort of gaze sara fixes upon her now. near a century, to be specific. she grins in return. ]
People are the variable element. Each one of us carries an entire world with us, representing when and where we hail from. I would like to know about you, Sara. It's not every day I get to meet someone who's recently put away her bow and arrows...
no subject
It sounds like you know plenty already.
( A bow isn't her weapon choice as much now, not when it's harder to conceal, so she has technically put them away... )
So why don't you tell me?
no subject
[ not always with words, and therefore hardly enough to paint a full picture. diana dips her head, though, in acknowledgment. ]
Your hands tell me of your skill with many weapons, favored among them smaller blades. Your eyes speak of mistrust, and your body of power and skill. These things you told me before I offered you my open hand.
[ on the table, diana's hand turns, palm upright. for all she's reading from sara, this is her attempt to return communication in kind. you are dangerous. you are capable. i come to you without fear. will you do the same? ]
I would like to know who you are, not of what you are capable.
no subject
So, instead, Sara gives a nod, heading dipping for a few seconds as she thinks of a response )
I've only been here a couple of weeks. ( And her gaze raises again, settling back on Diana's face ) I'm from somewhere called Star City.
( She adds the 'somewhere' in only because there have been others that haven't heard of it )

Oh no!!!
What should I do???? Should I make everyone lots of cookies? Should I get on my hands and knees and apologize? I'm so sorry everyone!

I never thought of it as kind. Just what I was best at. If I see someone sick or injured, I have to take care of them. I don't even think, I just do it.

[...but then she soon sends a follow-up]
That's not true. But it would be really mean and rude to ask people to be my friends after I take care of them.

Look, Cassie is totally capable of throwing me off a roof herself. Or, you know, using her words, since I wouldn't kiss her if she didn't want to be kissed and-- [A beat. He frowns.] Did you just... introduce yourself to me?
no subject
It's customary to do so when you meet someone for the first time.
[ a pointed look, as diana makes some intuitive leaps. it's clear she's the one flying blind, here. ]
no subject
Right. I'm Kon-El. [A beat.] Superboy.
no subject
[ superboy. the possibilities of just who this boy is run through her head, but one thing is for certain. while they don't share some things naturally, a lot of boys like to lead. whether they truly honor a person's desire to be left unkissed or not.. ]
What is it that makes you so super?
[ she lets uncertainty enter her voice: doubtful and unconvinced. he knows her, apparently. is comfortable being thrown from buildings-- apparently. and he claims to be oh so respectful. how far might such respect go? is he humble or does he simply know how to appear so? ]
no subject
[He crosses his arms, slumping a little.]
Anyway, it's a family name. I'm a clone of Superman.
no subject
That doesn't exactly answer my question, Kon-El.
no subject
You mean superpowers? Oh, strength, flight, speed, all the eye powers... pretty much what Superman's got. [A beat. He brightens.] And one thing he doesn't got. Have you heard of tactile telekinesis?
no subject
[ ...great hera. ]

come here for friend, stay for cute warrior princess
It takes her a moment, but with a faint shake of her head she offers her hand firmly to respond in kind. On her end it's less of a shake and more of a clasp, but the smile she eases into makes up for the harshness of the gesture. ]
You might have better luck once I've actually had coffee, but you're welcome to my time. [ The little wrinkles in the corners of her eyes become more visible when her smile widens. A light huff of air, almost a laugh that turns to words. ] Jill. I'm afraid that you've found yourself someone in the same predicament.
[ She's cautious, though, quick to scan her surroundings. Now's as well as any time to play friendly, she supposes. With a sweeping motion, she tilts the chair back and slips in without pushing the legs back much further. ]
You typically as chipper as this so early or is this how you work your entrapment?
[ She's joking, honest. ]
a good policy, to be sure!
I would choose all of the above, Jill. [ sing-song, her voice loses none of its merriment at the taunt. in fact, her grin echoes her own verbal parry: ] I would also prefer to be the judge of my own luck.
[ and it seems that luck is serving her very well. if jill's cards are truly on the table, diana may find herself a new friend. and if this woman is keeping something to herself still, hidden behind bravado and acerbic wit, well. diana does love a challenge. ]
You seem very comfortable for someone so new.
no subject
Ha, well, you're in good company if not one that might have a touch of morning crankiness. You'll have to excuse my tone if it's still got a little sleep in it. [ She knows very well she can be too direct or harsh at times and it can unnerve people, but it's not a bad skill to have. She wipes a hand over her cheek up toward her forehead, pressing hard like she rolled out of bed into the shop. ] If you're looking for information, I'm afraid I've not much to share but if you describe someone you might be looking for I can keep an eye out.
[ She only suspects that's the case because she was going to hit up people for the same reasons. The only thing is, despite looking for a few people in particular, in this sort of... situation, it could be someone you don't think of that might show up. In time, hopefully they'd find her if that was the case.
Though not sloppy, she tries to be more casual after the way her tone might have had a sharp bite to it, only one elbow on the table as she leans into a curved hand, knuckles to her chin. There's something about this woman that probably draws others to her, not just those she approaches. It's not unpleasant. ]
Don't let my demeanor fool you, I'm just good with maps and coffee-motivated. [ No waiters here, probably, but she could hold off a little longer. Caffeine hit her like a truck head-on and there weren't a stack of papers for her to look over, just exploration to be had. ] Nice to have a day off, even if it's not by choice. Normally I'd say something like "stick with me if you're worried," but I get the feeling you can more than take care of yourself. Though if you're looking for someone to stick with for a while, my plans for the day are pretty informal. A lot to explore, it seems.
[ Though that reminds her that she'd like to see about picking up a survival knife. Strictly for personal protection and peace of mind, of course. ]
