[ after a few weeks of the seven stages of terror: denial, anger, questioning of sanity (why aren't more people here doing that?), denial, anger, and sanity-questioning again, followed by utter sadness, noora finally arrives at acceptance.

when she does, she makes a decision. if she's going to be here, she's going to know where she is and who she's here with, checking out the network silently these past weeks notwithstanding. ]

Since we're all insanely stuck here in my least favorite children's book, I suggest we get along and learn something about each other. New somethings also, for those who've been here.

I'll start. My name is Noora, I'm eighteen and from Norway. I like chocolate milk and writing, though not American teen dramas about gossip, for the record. I'm just a normal girl compared to a lot of you here, though I don't think that's a bad thing either way.

[ mostly, noora is looking for something to do. something to occupy her mind. her racing mind, in point of fact. she's visited the kitchen for a light snack in pursuit of trying to distract herself from well, everything to do with here, and well...

she's ended up with a scrub brush in her hand, a bucket full of water and vinegar from one of the closets, and an incredible and inescapable need to put something in order. right now, that something is cleaning the walls. yes, the walls. when was the last time they were cleaned? never? in the entire history of wonderland? she thinks so.

( from what little she knows of noora, that does sound about right. elena taps the rubber end of her pencil against her cheek in thought. ) I don't like pickles, and one of my favorite children's books is A Wrinkle in Time, though I'm pretty sure I read almost every Nancy Drew book available to me, too. ( which in retrospect, makes some sense, too. struggles between light and darkness, and an independent truth-seeker. )

No, A Wrinkle in Time? I love that one. "You're given the form, but you have to write the sonnet yourself." [ an inspiration to a younger noora. the present noora too: life is what you make of it. for so long it's been entirely in her hands to make it something. she made it that way the moment she left her parents.

she smiles to herself at the thought of little elena with piles of little detective books. ] I think you make a good Nancy Drew. All that research, yeah? [ obviously because they met in the library. ]

“What you say is completely up to you.” Sometimes I need to remember that more often.

( for over a year, elena's life was mired in should and should nots. in what to say and what to leave unspoken. there's a relief in releasing herself of those chains, even if they haven't come without consequence. neither does freedom, yes? ps: they totally met at a library. #kindred spirits )

Maaaybe. I don't have a lot of research to show for it. Not that I plan on giving up anytime soon, but Wonderland doesn't make it easy.

( the last year's been a whirlwind in the worst way.

a mess of who the hell are you? and why does it matter so much? and maybe she didn't want to figure out who she is, because she's afraid she'll hate that person. she made herself sick with it, and she tried to be strong and do what was right and not-give-up, because that's what everyone says is important too.

she still can't think for herself.

eva could never anticipate the short drop into some fantasy world. it's stranger than twin peaks. finding out noora was already in wonderland, it gave eva the strength to deal. sort of. ever since that night at the theater kids' party, noora's helped give her strength. it's looking like she can maybe do the same for noora now. she walks up beside her friend, nudging her gently. )

How about H for "How clean do you want think these walls should be?"

[ she knows it's crazy, to be here scrubbing away at the walls, as if doing so will lend some credence or explanation to where they've landed. maybe that's the point — it's crazy, but it's a distraction, and that's the point.

the only thing preventing her from going off the deep-end and reaching for the ceiling next is this girl right here: ] Eva, [ she sighs, after tensing a little at the sudden nudge. she considers for a split second how she can play this off, realizes it's impossible, and breaks into a rueful grin.

probably what eva was going for in the first place, ja? ] 'H' for 'How silly do you think I am?'

( eva purses her lips and tilts her head to the side as if in contemplation, and then she finally comes to the very serious conclusion as she smiles: ) Could be sillier.

( her goal is to get noora to smile even in an impossible situation. wonderland takes the cake over when her best friend pulled out justin bieber to cheer up eva when she needed it most. at the time, it'd felt like the end of the world to her. and she'd already been through it once, forsaking everything for the sake of one boy, and then losing that boy in a hail of who the hell even are you, eva?s. she had no idea what she was in for next. )

We're in Wonderland, Noora. Any and all reactions to being in a fictional place? Completely normal.

[The only reason Caroline hasn't personally cleaned the walls is because, by this point, she has a massive apartment with four people living in it that she can spend her time cleaning when she gets the itch and needs a distraction.

She doesn't usually eat in here, but she had the urge to do a little walking, talking, maybe meet some new people.
