and peter put it in his hands when his father wanted it buried. he shoved it over to him to try to understand what was happening to him, what peter made happen. he orchestrated it all.
his eyes burn as he stares down at the device in his hand, and he swallows, wondering if he'll be able to work it out, figure it out. there are scientists here. there are smart people. he can give up a memory to get something that can read this.
harry's words ringing through his head, through the area. it feels like a very long time ago that they were children without a care in the world, and now harry's shaking, desperate, afraid. he grips hold of his arm, and he is silent for too long, for far too long. the words escape him quiet in a near whisper but the sheer desperation and need for it to be true-
peter will make it true. )
We'll find a way.

I don't know if we can. [ It's not like they have any of Oscorp's research here. Certainly none of their technology and nothing from the labs. All he has is some information locked up in a device which is likely going to be useless. ] Norman Osborn was a genius and he couldn't do it. Couldn't figure it out. Couldn't save himself. [ He clenches his hand into a fist, digging his fingernails into his palm, trying to stop the shaking. ]
... Retroviral Hypodysplasia. [ He lets out a grin, attempting to put on a brave face -- though it's easy to see that he's frightened. ] Dude. You ever even heard of that before? [ Because he hasn't. He's not even sure what kind of medication he's supposed to be on right now. If there's even anything he can do to stop its progress. Good ol' dad hadn't left him with a list of what to expect and he's not sure if that's a blessing or if he's just screwed. All he knows is that the pain comes and goes. ] It's incurable. That's what we know. [ He looks at the device in Peter's hand. ] His life's work. All of it. And that's all we know for sure. [ He smiles, and for a moment, it's almost like he's okay with the fact that he's going to die, but then the smile disappears only to be replaced with a look of pure anguish. ]
I don't want to end up like my father, Peter. I can't... [ Harry doesn't expect Peter to come up with a solution to his problem. He realizes that he only needs to vent his frustrations. He's just had too much to drink. That's all this is. ]

Hey, hey, hey, listen to me, listen... we can.
We can. ( Peter reaches out to grab hold of him, and his grip on Harry tightens to a point that might actually be painful, but the overwhelming swell of responsibility nearly crashes into him. Oscorp. He could have done more digging. Is that why they needed the research with the lizard so badly that they were willing to do whatever it took to get it? The man ended up dead, but he's certain Oscorp got a hold of it. They got a hold of what his father was trying to keep secret, and he still doesn't know why except for what happened to Dr. Connors when he had that completed formula and tested it on himself. )
We're not back there anymore. We're in a place with magic, with scientists who know more than the ones at home.
Anything's possible here.

Anything's possible... [ He lets out a nod, thinking that Peter would know. He's been here for far longer. Who cares that even if they find a cure that he might get thrown back home and have to face dying all over again? He wants to just stop freaking out about this right now so he'll let Peter tell him what he needs to hear. ]
Yeah. I'll just... give you samples of my blood, and you can hand it out to your science buddies and it'll be a done deal, right? [ Peter's grip on him is kind of hurting him, but it's also numbing the other pain, so he allows it. ] I mean. I don't have anything to offer, but... maybe they'll just do me the favor, right? [ That doesn't seem at all realistic to him. ]
... Like they've got nothing better to do with their goddamn lives. [ He chuckles, finding it amusing. Well, there goes that shred of optimism he was trying to hold on to. ] Pete, I don't own a single fucking thing here. No one is going to help me.
