According to local lore, we have been brought here to feed the core of this dimension. Left unchecked, we don't leave. Many of us are endeavoring to circumvent the properties of this arrangement, but progress is slow.

On a metaphysical level, it seems to be that way. We're still hammering out the details in what exactly is taken from us. Memory is a large part of it, but there's a physical aspect as well, it seems. We need to die for it to be extracted from us. I would recommend not doing that.
