Chidi Anagonye | The Good Place
So... I can have... any food I want?
[The table spreads itself out in front of him, covered with every favorite food he's ever had. Chidi starts to reach for one of the plates, then draws his hand back. He reaches for the next one. Draws his hand back again.]
Oh.... I'm getting a stomachache. I mean, do we even know where they're getting this food? What are the ethical ramifications of eating magical food that comes from an unknown source? How do we know what it even is?
Library
[Chidi has finally found the upside to Wonderland. The library.]
This place... it's beautiful! [He's found several of his old favorites already, and now he's going around for round two: books he's never heard of by philosophers he has heard of. Books from alternate universes where great minds had come up with different ideas.
Pretty soon, he's surrounded by a growing book fort, happily reading and jotting down notes as he does it. He's in nerd heaven.]
dining room!
Not to cause your stomach more unrest, but what would the alternative be to eating the food provided when literally everything is provided?
[ It's a genuine question, not at all filled with any kind of sarcasm as she observes. ]
I take it you're relatively new, as well?
no subject
[He clears his throat.]
Yes, I am new.
no subject
I wonder how that might change when you know that each time we die here - and we do but come back from the dead up to five times - it actually fuels our prison. It literally runs on our memories and our deaths.
[ Extending her hand, she gives him a bit of a sympathetic smile. ]
Claire Fraser.
no subject
[Which.... probably explains a whole lot about him.]
no subject
[ So like, there's just no time. ]
Could we assume that our benefactor is also our prison ward and is somehow keeping us well supplied because he or she (or it) needs us?
no subject
It's hard to assume anything when we know so little about the place. But yes, I think it's very likely whoever trapped us here is also responsible for feeding us. Though if it is to preserve us for a future need, that raises another question: considering Wonderland's aforementioned kidnapping and murder stance, it's likely whatever that need is, it will not be for good. Should we not figure out that purpose before we make a decision on how to proceed?
no subject
[ That's the highly frustrating problem with Wonderland. They're here for what? There's a vague sense of knowing a few details, but nothing concrete. ]
So, in the meantime, we have to eat and drink and supply ourselves against danger, using the things given to us from questionable sources. While still attempting to gain answers about our purpose here.
Library
[Hey, Chidi, there's a little unicorn hanging around, reading through a pile of books, levitating a couple around himself as he keeps trying to cross-reference various texts he's found. He's so happy. This is the BEST place.]
If we had a place like this back home, I don't think I'd ever step hoof outside of it ever again.
no subject
[Chidi looks down at his book, then back up at unicorn and nope, still there.]
...I don't think I've been up over 24 hours yet. I shouldn't be hallucinating.
no subject
[He pushes his glasses back up his muzzle with a hoof and a slightly haughty sniff.]
I promise I'm not a hallucination. I've got nowhere near that sort of magical skill. I'm as real as you are. It's a simple case of other universes, after all, the tiniest of act can create a completely different one. Stands to reason that some worlds have talking equines, while others have [oh balls, what did Twilight say they were called again? ] hoomans.
[Nailed it. ]

[He waves a hoof at the space around them, happy to find some common ground. ]
You were enjoying the library, too? Do you have anything interesting from your world you could recommend? I'd love to learn more.
dining room :')
[ SURPRISE, guess who is standing nearby, inexplicably ]
Unfortunately, I have no information about the source of all this, but I would be happy to help you find something that seems safe.
[ She can't lie to him about the dangers of consuming potentially-magical food, but she will try her darndest to make him feel better!! ]
In the meantime, can I get you an antacid?
JANET
You don't know what the source of this food. But you know everything.
SMOOCH
[ Janet leans in, still smiling, hands behind her back. ]
It hurts my brain.
no subject
How long have you been here? How are you here?
no subject
[ She smiles, still, as if this is an acceptable answer. ]
Unfortunately, since we are out of range of my current neighborhood, I have lost access to my abilities. This makes it difficult for me to get around. Still, I'll try and help you as best I can.
