david haller ( legion )
Last thing David knew, he was falling asleep in one of the beds at Summerland after being rescued from a threatening interrogation at the hands of well-armed mystery people that threatened to kill him after he's been off his meds for a week. Only apparently he doesn't need his meds, or so Melanie Bird claims. He's only half-sure the woman and Summerland are real.
But clozapine withdrawal is a hell of a thing when you've been taking it for several years. So he's definitely sure, when he wakes up on the bench of a garden rather than a bed in a cubicle, that he's hallucinating. He laughs to himself, then dreamily drops onto his knees on the ground and touches a yellow flower.
He doesn't know what kind of flower it is. Daisy? Buttercup? Whatever it is, there's a patch of them in a vintage-style ceramic planter.
"Try not to eat those," Lenny Busker says, appearing behind him in gardening overalls and a wide-brimmed sun hat, complete with gloves. "They're poison."
"Why would I eat a flower? I'm not that crazy," David protests. "Kinda hungry, though."
"Ah, ah, ah," Lenny says, wagging her finger at him. She grips him by the scruff of his collar and bodily shoves him back onto the bench. "We both know you're hallucinating your dead friend right now, so you're about, I'd say... a 9.5 on the buttercup-eating scale. Figure out where you are first, or wander around like a lost crumb nibbling fresh rosemary." She thrusts her pointer finger into his chest, laughing at him. "Learn now, eat later, capisce?"
She disappears from view. David looks around to see where she went, or where he is, whatever comes first.
It's not helping. He suddenly feels more nauseous than hungry, though that's probably the withdrawal talking.
Meanwhile, anyone who happened to catch sight at the time would not have seen or heard Lenny at all, just David talking to himself and stumbling back onto the bench.
NETWORK
so.
nothing like feeling that ol' paranoia every time you catch sight of yourself in a reflection, it's really something.
it's funny, at the hospital we weren't allowed mirrors because we might smash them and now i guess the prophecy is fulfilled. or whatever.
also, i really love oversharing apparently. nice to meet everyone?
i'm david and i'm trying to get used to this portable phone thing. it's really cool, actually.
MINDSCAPE
[There's a field of tall, strange flowers that don't have petals so much as little balls of yellow light, stretching out further and further into the darkness. These flowers are the only source of light around, as visions of a boy's childhood come and go as if they are giant projections into the starless night sky.
There's a haunted feeling here, as if something lurks in the darkness, perhaps where the flowers are more sparse. A feeling like you really want to get out of here before something notices you.
Concentrate on the visions of David's years as a child or teenager if you wish, or explore further to find a way out of this foreboding place.]
