[He felt a disturbance in the force the moment Teddy arrived in Wonderland. He hadn't known what to do with that. On one hand the part of him that would always love Teddy was elated- how could he not be it was Teddy. On the other hand the way things had been left when Teddy went home...well seeing Teddy wasn't exactly something he was sure he was capable of doing. At least without flinching. He hated the fact that Teddy was back here, Wonderland had turned Teddy into someone he didn't recognize and he had been happy for Teddy when he got to go back home, he didn't have to remember anything that happened.

He wasn't ready to face him, so he did what he does best, he ignored the problem and hoped he would have more time to sort it out before Teddy realized he was here too. Like most of his plans that one was bound to fail.

Billy's in the air shooting a lightening bolt at a practice dummy when he spots Teddy walking into the center. He shouldn't be surprised, of course this is the first place Teddy would come, they are Avengers afterall.]

[Teddy knows that lightning intimately. It's different than Thor's or anyone else's; Billy's lightning is delicate and sprawling, a particular shade of blue. It's beautiful, in a way that only Billy can be beautiful.]

Billy? You're here?

[He's here and he's active. He's training. He's getting out from being pinned under the weight of his sadness and working again. Something's happened here, and it might be the best thing any of them hoped for.

There's no response from Billy, though. Maybe it has something to do with that hood he's wearing; there's probably some kind of sound interruption. Wings sprout from Teddy's back as he lifts into the air to join him. He approaches from behind, curling an arm around Billy's slender waist as soon as he's close enough.]

I missed you, Baby.

[Billy doesn't mean to do it but his first instinct is to flinch and pull away. His concentration falters and he drops slightly getting out of Teddy's hold before dropping to the ground. He can feel the start of panic start to rise up and he pushes it down. Its not fair to Teddy, he doesn't know, he doesn't remember what happened.]

Teddy. Uh. Hi.

[Billy scrambles away, and Teddy doesn't do anything to hold him in place. He's a deer in headlights, stunned into silence as two tons of steel careen towards him. This is wrong. This is the most wrong thing that's ever gone wrong in forever.]

... Billy? Is something wrong?

[Maybe it's not Billy. Maybe there's an evil twin situation happening. Someone mentioned that evil twins were common here. Is the real Billy in danger? Kidnapped?]

[Billy shakes his head, getting himself under control.]

No. Sorry. I'm ok, you just surprised me is all. [ Lies.]

Hi. You're here.

[He lowers himself to the ground, moving closer. He reaches out for Billy's hand, because how else could they exist if not attached to one another?]

I'm here. I hope you didn't have to wait long for me.

[If he's that skittish, he's probably been stuck in survival mode for too long.]

[Billy quickly changes his uniform to a t-shirt and a pair of jeans, sticking his hands in his pockets so he doesn't have to take Teddy's. He takes a moment to look at him and its obvious he's not the Teddy he left back him. He's the Teddy from three years ago (or four and a half if he counted his time here). Wonderland seemed to like to bring that Teddy here a lot.]

I see that. I uh, how much have you heard about this place?

[Confusion, then. The words are right, but there's something off about the tone. It might still be too early to rule out the possibility of Mirror Person.]

Wormholes, multiverse, time travel, inescapable prison dimension? We've talked about escape routes for at least half of those.

[His hand slowly falls back to his side.]

You're... using it as a vacation spot for now? I mean, that's the only thing I can see holding you here if they aren't restraining you.

[Billy can do anything. He's kind o perfect like that. Like Superman and Dr. Strange had a really sexy baby.]

Come on, we should probably talk in my room. [He doesn't pause before he's teleporting them both easily to his bedroom, depositing them in the sitting area near the couch. He gives Teddy a second to get his bearings before he sits in one of the chairs.]

It's not really a vacation spot. We can't get home. I can teleport within the confines of this world but nothing can get us home. At least nothing that we've found yet and people have been trying. Some for years.

[Teleportation feels weird. Not weird in the way Harry Potter made it sound like it would be. There's no weird bellybutton yanking or anything. It's more like having his shape changed without his consent. Is that a form of shapeshift-rape? Magic is complicated.

But before long, he's standing in the middle of Billy's glorious nerdcave. He walks in a wide circle as he listens, taking in his surroundings.]

How many of those years involved Avengers? Avengers should be able to wrap up something like this before lunchtime.

...By the way, do you have snacks?

Snacks in the closet. Just ask it for what you want. [He gestured towards the closet on the other side of the room.]

Avengers have been here for two years I think. I've been here for about eighteen months. Trust me, we're stuck here.

Ask. The closet. [Give him a minute to process that. And then:] Billy Kaplan, do you have a magic closet??

[That's amazing! This place seems awesome. He settles down at the edge of the sofa, giving Billy his full attention.]

I'm -- sorry, I think I heard that wrong. Did you say "years"? And everyone's just okay with this?

Everyone has a magic closet. You will too once you pick a room. [ Its weird, seeing Teddy like this. So young. He nods. ]

Years. Whatever brings us here also drops us back at the exact second we were taken from. Time passes here but we don't age. Some people are okay with it, not everyone.

[He squints faintly. It can take a minute sometimes, when it comes to arranging puzzle pieces. But Teddy's seen a lot of Star Trek.]

But if we don't age while we're here... Then why don't you look the same?

[There's an obvious answer, but it isn't the one he wants. He'll reject it as long as possible.]

Because I think that I'm older than you. [He says it quietly, slowly so he doesn't freak Teddy out.] Whats the last thing you remember about back home?

[He wrings his hands in his lap. Billy's tone is softer, unbillylike. It's the kind of tone that usually happens right before someone decides "we need to talk."

Billy didn't want to hold his hand.

They haven't properly touched since they've been together.]

It's been a couple of weeks since Cassie. ... Since the team --. [That's the wrong way to focus. It could send Billy spiraling back into the dark places.]

We get to be Avengers now.

[actualwizard]

[ Billy smiles softly at him, he remembers that day. It was a good day after a string of really bad ones.]

That was three years ago for me, Tee. A lot has happened since then.

[He nods then, quietly. Three years means that Billy's nineteen. That's just about forever in relationship time. It's enough time for "I love you forever" to perhaps be less applicable.]

Did we break up?

[That was a loaded question. How was he supposed to answer it?

We did...at home. But not for very long. We had a few things to figure out.

...you've been here before though.

[halfbredhero]

[His brows knit together.]

You mean.. I come back here when I'm your age. And we fight then?

[There's a small tremor in his voice, but then he clears his throat, swallowing back the swell.]

Will it create a time paradox if I ask what happened?

[Billy looks down at his hands for a second trying to figure out how to say this.] You...

This place changed you. You started to pull away from me, to doubt yourself, doubt us. You pushed me away until- it was like you weren't even here anymore and I was alone. I started to learn how to be alone.

[He chews on the inside of his cheek.]

But that means we were still together when I arrived here. The damage wasn't done until things affected us in this environment.

[Mind control? It seems likely in a place like this. Teddy was never very good at defending himself against magical attacks. He always relied on Billy for that. Maybe something got through.]

Are you happier now?

[actualwizard]

[Billy wonders if it was this environment or if it was always going to happen. Maybe they had always been moving towards this path- maybe they both needed to find out who they were alone in order to figure out who they were with each other.]

I don't know. I don't know if I'm happier or if you not being here made it easier to ignore.

[Billy doesn't know if he wants him. And right now, Teddy's not sure how to process this information. It sinks deep into the pit of his gut, churning there.

Teddy ruined things. And Billy doesn't want him.

Without Billy, there's nothing.

Without Billy, there's just a sea of faces. A boy who can be anything, everything, but at the cost of something unique. A year ago, he'd go to his Mom about something like this. They'd get a gallon of ice cream and two spoons. She'd break her diet and he'd share his secrets and they'd hug and cry. A year ago, he'd text Eli about it. They'd play video games and vent. Mom and Eli are both gone.

But he smiles, because he has to smile. Billy likes it better when he shrugs off bad news.]

I -- understand. If you want me to back off a little. I don't have to-- we don't.

[What does nineteen year old Teddy look like? Taller, probably. Maybe his jaw is squarer. Maybe that's what Billy likes now. Maybe he wants something else.

The shape of his nose shifts indecisively, then resets to its normal place.]

[Billy had almost forgotten what it was like to be able to read Teddy. This is a Teddy he knows. He can practically see his mind working- he sees the shift and he frowns. He doesn't want to hurt this Teddy. That breaks his heart.

He reaches forward laying his hand on Teddy's arm. Touching him for the first time.]

Don't do that, Tee. Don't start thinking about how you can change yourself for me. I've never wanted to you be anyone but exactly who you are. You know that. A lot has happened- and I can't go back to being who you know me as. But that doesn't mean I don't love you.
