HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU?!

You have isolated your victim to study it at length, seeking to become them. You are nearly satisfied you know your chosen subject, ready to take on its form, leaving the poor soul to rot. You crave bottomlessly to be more, more powerful, more skilled, more inspired, and being them will be so much more interesting.

They will tell you what they think, they will tell you what they feel, they will tell you what they see. Are all these shapes useful? Will they let you know them? Will they tell you more about them?

For you must see more. You have not yet seen enough. You must rise--

[If he was honest, it's both, but Sans is rarely honest. If this...kid is here, then everyone is in danger. Not just Papyrus, but Frisk too. It's kind of insane--Frisk being in danger from something that should technically be another aspect of Frisk's self.]

[Not to mention all the dozens of unrelated people here. Random humans who might be inclined to trust a child who is very good at playing innocent.

humans can't take the souls of other humans, you know. but then again...

[He lets his eyelights go out.]

you're not really human, are you?
fulllifeconsequences: (When I scare the last away)

[A complete and utter lack of reaction to the chilling sight of empty sockets. The same hollow look that "Frisk" sometimes gives Sans when they first meet, when he tries his whoopie cushion gag.

Been there. Seen that.

They can make their eyes go big and dark and empty too, Sans, but you don't see them showing off, do you?]

Perhaps not. But it would be nice of me to keep pretending to be one. Would it not?

After all. There's an awful lot of space between you and I right now. Who knows who I could run into? Who knows what I could make them believe.

[A taunt. A challenge. Got any shortcuts, skeleman? Brave enough to take action? Or perhaps it would be comfier to wait, again, until there is nothing left that is even worth fighting for.]
punful: (yeah i'm a punny guy)

well hey there buddy chum pal friend buddy amigo

[personal profile] punful 2016-01-27 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Shit.]

[Shit, that gets him. The kid is echoing his own words back at him, and he knows they're his, but he can't remember saying them. For a moment everything feels completely unreal. It's a good thing his eyesockets have gone dark, because if not, he would no doubt look exactly as unsettled as he feels.]

[Worst of all is the realization that everything really is that scripted. That he really is that predictable.]

[And now the kid is outright challenging him. God, it's not supposed to happen like this. And that's the real problem, isn't it? The "supposed to." The script. The same thing, over and over, with minor differences. Then you have Wonderland, throwing a wrench into all of that. Changing the entire script.]

[He doesn't know what to do.]

[The lights come back to his eyes once he has himself back under control.]

well, you know. on the one hand...i've got no promises to keep in this place. you're not the kid who walked through that door, either way.

on the other hand...

[He smirks a little.]

frisk is here. i think if anyone has a bone to pick with you, it's them.

[And if anyone can stop this kid, really stop them, it's Frisk. That's how it is. Sans is only ever a big, frustrating roadblock. And Frisk has the Determination to do it. Frisk might even find something worth Saving here.]

[Too bad Sans can't see that thread happening up there.]
fulllifeconsequences: (That I don't want to know)

oh golly oh no it's Unpleasant Circumstance Man

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-01-27 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Frisk. Of course. They never gained any LOVE, did they? Not this time.

[Ah. He won't come? He thinks he has a choice. He thinks Chara can't force him to do what they decide. That their determination can't reach him without a script to follow.

Well. So be it. He can continue to be a lazybones. But, as it inevitably does. It will cost him dearly.]

That was the SOUL I really had my heart set on, after all. Won't it be entertaining. To watch them try to Spare me? Someone who cannot be dissuaded.

A truly determined killer.

One, perhaps, more determined than them.

[thank god he can't look at how that turned out chara's edgy kid reputation would be RUINED]

And Sans! Think of the fun I'll have! My determination. And theirs. Once their SOUL is mine, my control of the timeline will be far beyond your reach.
punful: (tfw the pun makes them bust a rib)

Mean Mister Ketchup

[personal profile] punful 2016-01-27 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
not this time.

[Thank god. He might have really just thrown in the towel if he had to contend with an evil Frisk as well as whoever this brat is.]

you? more determined than frisk? nah, i don't think so. honestly, i'm surprised you're underestimating them so much. this is the same kid who took on a god and won.

[He might not know the details of that fight, but he can guess. And it's one of the things still relatively fresh in his memory. Boy, the feeling of having your soul ripped out really is...something.]

[But this is interesting. If this kid is underestimating Frisk, that means they're fallible. Certainly not some god. Certainly a lot less powerful than they're pretending to be.]

[It's also interesting to be able to talk so plainly about timelines. Liberating, really. There's only one other person he could do that with and he's...not here. Probably.]

[He has to laugh at that last part.]

wow, kid. you really have no idea what you've gotten yourself into, do you? this isn't the same timeline. it's not even the same set of timelines. heck, it's not even the same universe. none of those rules apply here. all the determination in the multiverse will just amount to nothing. no one controls wonderland, least of all you.

this is a completely different game we're all in. completely different set of rules. and whoever or whatever's controlling it doesn't give a damn about any of us.

Sans. Perhaps you are the one who is underestimating someone.

Allow me to tell you something you already know.

[They pull the camera closer, like they're whispering to a dear old friend. Just a fun, harmless secret. A bit of childish whimsy.]

I don't care about the rules. I am not satisfied with merely winning. With merely getting a "happy ending," or with tailoring a world to my liking.

What calls me is destruction. Oblivion. Erasure.

And that, Sans, I do not need a tired old timeline to achieve. It is very, very easy to simply poke a few holes into a living thing. You know that too, of course. Easier still, to repeat it over and over. To hunt down everything that breathes and reduce it to dust.

Whatever world I am summoned to can take away everything I have, and I can still chew it to pieces. Just to see what happens.
punful: (gotta rest my weary bones)

[personal profile] punful 2016-01-29 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
[He just stares at this terrifying child while they talk.]

[It's what he always wondered: why was the anomaly doing this? How does a child become this corrupt? Sure, they talk big, and it's so easy to just think of this kid as some kind of demon, but...]

[There's always a but.]

how do you not get...bored? how many timelines has it been now?

[He has no way of knowing. He used to keep tally marks. One mark for every moment where the world stutters, that feeling like you're walking down a flight of stairs and you miss the very last one. Every time he woke up in Snowdin and just sort of...knew. Eventually he just couldn't keep track anymore.]

there's no resets here, kid. no going back. and there are things here you can't kill no matter how hard you try.
fulllifeconsequences: (While asking me to go)

there is no mercy here : )

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-01-29 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
[It's wretched.

They did not decide to wake up. They were called. They were not given the chance to seize absolute control. Only permitted to taste it, far too briefly. Again and again, they go back. Frisk exhausts endings. The same fights, the same conversations, only the slightest of variations on a theme.

They were so close. Only one more fight to win, and they could destroy it all at last. Wrench the world away, reduce it to nothingness. If they do not have the power to find the reset they really want, one farther back than Frisk's existence... if they can't take control, if they can't make an ending for themselves, only whisper and watch...

What's the point. What's the point of any of this. Why do they exist.

...They ask that, but it isn't a question. They already know. Frisk called them for a reason. Strength. They have been shown, very clearly, that they are not a wanted part of that world, so it becomes staggeringly easy to distance themselves. To hurt. To tune out jokes, to ignore kindness, to acquire LOVE.]

Let me tell you a secret, Sans. But only you, and only here. Since it will not matter. Since it will have no consequence.

I'm not the one who presses RESET.

Your beloved friend. The good human. They have yet to surrender control. I am not the one who decides.

Yet.

I am only a tool that they have summoned. Their humble servant. While in that world, I was granted life merely to do what they wanted to. What they would already have done, had they not lacked someone to shoulder the consequence for them. They awakened me, showed me the purpose of my revival. And now. Once again. I have been called.

I exist to kill or be killed. If there are things here I cannot defeat, then so be it. I will die trying.

[Silver-tongued words spill out of them, delicate and thick with flowery perfume. They were very good, in life, at charming. Manipulating.

But are they really wrong?]
punful: (it's going tibia okay)

that button is broken

[personal profile] punful 2016-01-29 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[The kid could be lying. Hell, they probably are lying. Pass off blame onto Frisk, as if Sans didn't already hold Frisk in a weird sort of dual-state in his mind. Sometimes Frisk is a friend, sometimes they're an enemy, and that's this kid's fault.]

[But it's not really that simple, is it? Nothing about any of this was ever simple.]

[You can't blame this kid without also blaming Frisk, and vice versa. And you can't blame either of them without also blaming Sans. And boy, does Sans know that. Just by merit of existing, Sans is to blame, because he's the lure. The last obstacle. The challenge.]

[And that's the other thing. The force out there that actually sees that challenge and wants to test themselves.]

[It's just like normal life, right? The blame gets spread around until it doesn't even matter anymore. The thing is, it doesn't change the fact that, sometimes, Frisk is a friend.]

man. that's a pretty sad life you lead.

[Said the walking suffer orb.]

there's no castle or golden hallway here. but i'm sure we'll find somewhere good to meet.

[It's inevitable right?]
fulllifeconsequences: (Trapped inside a ghost)

thanks, asgore

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-01-30 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Pot. Kettle.

[The words roll right off them, because you need to be able to feel to experience regret, sadness, desperation, despair. If all you are is raw determination, there's no room for any of those. They don't care. They don't care at all.]

Choose it carefully, Sans. Make it somewhere you want your dust scattered. I already know what judgment you've passed. I already know the shape of your mercy. When we find each other. I won't be fooled.

I'll be coming to finish the job.

[Not that there's any point to it, anymore. Sans was always just a roadblock. A means to an end. And now... that end has been snatched away. They'll never have the power to erase the world. They won't have a bargaining chip to force dominion over a SOUL. Killing Sans won't let them bestow consequences onto anyone. They've already been brought to a new world, to fill that same role all over again.

But hey. Kids like them should be burning in hell. And here's someone who can spark the flames that might eventually swallow them up.

So may as well. Have some fun.

May as well see what happens.]
punful: (yeah i'm a punny guy)

[personal profile] punful 2016-01-30 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
fair enough. but i might not be as easy as you think i will be.

[Not like he was ever easy. He knows he must have given the kid a run for their money, if only because he knows how good he is at dodging, and how long he's spent perfecting his strategy. His eyes go dark again.]

it's like i said. different rules here. this is all unscripted.

[In more ways than one.]

[He doesn't want to fight this kid--he doesn't want to fight anyone. But, well. We'll see what happens.]
fulllifeconsequences: (When I scare the last away)

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-01-30 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not worried.

[They're not capable of it.]

I know you. You'll put it off to the very last second. Until there's hardly even a point to it anymore. I'll have plenty of time to find a better weapon. To practice. Even if we no longer call it LOVE, I will gain the strength I exist to gain.

And you'll let me. I know your true nature, Sans. You never expect to stop me. You never lift a finger to protect the human you swore to Toriel you would watch out for.

You're just like me, Sans.

You don't care one bit about doing the right thing. It has no point. None of it does. When you stand in my way, as you inevitably will, it will be for yourself.

For a nice trip to Grillby's.

For a way out.
punful: (it's going tibia okay)

[personal profile] punful 2016-01-30 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
[His eyesockets stay dark and his grin changes, becoming quite a bit less mirthless. How? How can this kid know so much?]

[He looks for all the world like the kid's words have just made him annoyed. Hell, he wishes he was just annoyed. This is nothing he hasn't heard before. It's nothing he hasn't told himself, over and over.]

[Thing is, though, if he has given up to that degree, to the point where in those bad timelines he's just using this kid as...a way out--then why bother trying so hard? Because he knows that he tries. If he didn't, remembering those faint bits he does from other timelines wouldn't hurt so much. He tells himself all the time that he has given up on everything, but if that were true...why bother doing anything at all? Why not just...stop?]

[That one last HP has to be good for something.]

you don't know anything about me, kid.
fulllifeconsequences: (I know I'd disappoint somehow)

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-01-30 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Now, Sans. This naivete isn't like you at all.

[So funny. He never seems to act surprised. Or, at the very least, he always tries not to let it show. Even without the ability to remember, he seems to know what's going on. He must have a lot of Fun, taking all those whimsical little shortcuts everywhere.

Chara drinks it in. If they can't gain strength with blows, they'll gain strength with words. They were summoned to FIGHT. In whatever way they can.

But no... it's not just that, is it? Chara had given up on being SAVED like those precious little Lost Souls. Chara had taken Sans' offer of mercy, and it cost them one more death. Chara waited with held breath and as the last person in the world who still uttered their name...

Held it up to a newer, better one, and found Chara lacking.

Ha. Mercy, huh?

No, Chara had no interest in hoping to be lifted up. Chara wanted only to drag someone down. And between Frisk and Sans, what lovely candidates they had! They knew about spooky scary skeleman. They remembered Papyrus' voice, meant for ears other than Chara's, musing that Sans never told anybody anything. They peeked into a telescope through Frisk's eyes. They were along for the ride when a tower of hot dogs wobbled into being. They knew about a love for science fiction that had maybe been buried under countless timelines' worth of apathy.

They saw a machine that would never work again. They, too, told themselves.

don't forget.

For a moment, their smile goes surprisingly... childlike. They even giggle.]

That's no way to speak to the legendary fartmaster.
punful: (tfw the pun makes them bust a rib)

[personal profile] punful 2016-01-30 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Damn. Damn it. God. This is exhausting.]

[He can't remember what it's like to not be tired.]

[He heaves a long sigh.]

naivete? that's what you think it is? heh. sure, you were along with frisk for the ride. makes sense you'd have seen all that stuff.

and you think cause you found a busted old machine, some pictures...that that's all there is to it? you think you know me front and back just from that and a couple of fights?

heh. now who's being naive?

[At the end of the day, even Sans doesn't really know. Who's he to guess what other versions of himself are thinking? The only thing he can really guess at is just what would happen to him if Papyrus died.]

i'm just not the kind of guy to spill his guts. don't have any to spill, you know?

[His usual grin is firmly back in place.]

thing is, you really don't know anything about me. and you're not going to. so you can "poke holes in me" all you want as you put it, and it's not gonna change a thing. try to make me squirm, try to kill me, probably succeed on both counts. you'll get nothing from me. nothing but a bad time. sooner or later, that's what it comes down to. and that's the thing about this place...if there's no rules, no script...

well, i'm free to mix things up.

i'll be keeping an eyesocket on you, kid.
fulllifeconsequences: (That I don't want to know)

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-01-30 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Words. Just words. Bravado, and nothing more. That's all Sans has.

It's all Chara has too, so at least they're starting off on equal ground.

But they're not here to be friends. Good friends, good food, bad laughs... those were always meant for someone else. No, what they got were the bad times. They were here to be a weapon, to feed only off the split-second chime of LOVE increasing, the wild thrill of a heroine's spears cutting them down, the visceral struggle of facing someone who had nothing left to lose.

And even here! Even now! It was still so easy to coax it out of Sans. Not a single ghost of a reason to fight anymore, except for whatever threats and provocations Chara could muster up, and they were already safe and secure in a promising little cocoon of impending bad times.]

That's exactly as I want it, Sans. Like your brother, you're. Forgettable. There's nothing worth knowing.

You can tell yourself I don't understand you all you like. I suspect that, too, is part of the reason behind my summoning. I will be the one, then, who wants it to end for the bad reasons. Who is tired out by the wrong cause. The one promises don't truly apply to.

And you... you'll give me nothing but a bad time, and I'll relish every second of it. How lucky for me. Even when nothing changes, I still have something new to look forward to.
punful: (it's going tibia okay)

[personal profile] punful 2016-01-31 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Bravado and Gaster Blasters. It seems to do the trick, most of the time.]

[It's not like Sans wants to fight anyone. He never wanted to fight. He just...had to. Because when things got to that point, what else was there to do? It was that or just stand by and let everything end. And hadn't he already stood by long enough?]

[What he doesn't understand is how he could let it get to that point in the first place. Why didn't he move sooner?]

[Whatever.]

[There's no point in continuing this. There's not a single thing he can say to this kid to change how things are.]

be seeing you, kid.
fulllifeconsequences: (When I scare the last away)

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-01-31 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Ha. Like a phone call they've eavesdropped on a thousand times over. A simple, heavy-hearted "see ya." Their shared cue to RESET. Begin again. Treat the world and its inhabitants like a bunch of variables, yes/no switches. Be rude to this one? Let this one fall off a bridge to their potential demise? Threaten these? Flirt with those? Like the whole entire world and the individuals within it, like all their hopes and dreams... like they were all just one big puzzle.

Incomplete. Imperfect. They'd be experiencing another do-over in the near future.

Even when nothing changes, they still have something new to look forward to.]

Sooner than you think.

[And with that, they cut the feed. End the call. Drop this stupid camera-phone-talky thing. Crush it under their heel until the plastic casing splinters. Just because they can. Just because they're sure they won't need it anymore.

They'll get a new one when things RESET.]
