Re: video
He does indeed know of Bruce Wayne, although for very different reasons.]
A pleasure to meet you. [And another pause, briefer this time. Just long enough to remember where they are.] As it were.
[The list of questions is hardly unexpected, largely because they are mostly the same ones Rip himself asked upon his own arrival.]
Unfortunately, no. As I said, they aren't the conversational type. [Which makes it so much harder to pinpoint a way to fight back.]
As for how many--several dozen, at least. [Although the mansion where they're all housed seems enormous in size, there are quite often a rather impressive number of people milling around.] And of wide variety. Not everyone here, myself included, has been taken from Gotham.
[ooc: HI! So I don't know if you're familiar at all with Legends of Tomorrow, but Rip's knowledge of Bruce (per my arrangement with the movie!Bruce player) does not include Batman stuff. Just FYI. :) ]
video
[Most importantly, the person he was talking to know was friendly and helpful, and Bruce was already grateful to the fact that he was talking to him.]
The others...from Gotham...
[He tried to think of the smoothest way to ask this.]
Are any of them named Alfred? Or...Selina?
[The latter almost certainly would still be mad at him. But he still trusted her more than almost anyone, save his loyal butler and guardian, and she had been in on their latest mission against the Court of Owls. It stood to reason she would still be a target of theirs. And this could be another of their schemes.]
((ooc: Hi! I am only vaguely familiar with LoT because for some reason Gotham ended up being the only superhero show I kept up with this year
blame batcat. But that works just fine for me because Bruce doesn't know anything about Batman stuff either. :P))Re: video
I'm...afraid I misspoke. [Because he had offered up that tidbit not as a way to make Bruce think there absolutely were other people from his city there, but to open the door to the much wider realm from which prisoners had been pulled.]
I haven't heard of anyone else from Gotham being here, although that doesn't mean it isn't possible. [He hardly knows the name of every individual in Wonderland, after all.] If your friends are here, I'm sure they'll respond once they see your broadcast.
video
I apologize. [He shook his head lightly, and for the first time since the start of his broadcast, seemed slightly shaken.] I was...quick to assume. The fault is mine.
[Perhaps he had been a little too eager to hear news of the others. To know that he was not alone in his predicament. Which was selfish of him, as it would be far better for them to be back home. Safe.]
You are correct. Alfred would almost certainly be looking for me if here were here. And the moment he saw my face on screen, he would come and get me.
Re: video
[Selfish or otherwise: Rip would not have taken his arrival to Wonderland nearly so well had it not been for the presence of those who have traveled with him--as problematic as those individual relationships might be.]
I hope he will find you quickly, then. [Be it through his own presence in Wonderland, or through Bruce's quick return to the world where he should be.] But even if he doesn't, know you are not alone here, Bruce.
video
That's very kind of you to say. Thank you.
Re: video
[And perhaps, after a time, Bruce might be able to believe it; Rip can only hope.]
In the meantime, there is quite a bit you should learn about this place. I suspect it's not quite like anything you've ever experienced.
[After all, Rip is a time traveler, and he can say the same for the dimension now holding them both captive.]
Although I'll also warn you: what I'm going to say sounds quite a bit insane. To be frank, I'm still coming to terms with it all myself.
video
I'm from Gotham. Trust me when I say there is little I'm not willing to believe anymore.
[...well, offer a suspension of disbelief at least. He wasn't naive. Just open-minded to certain concepts that would have once seemed impossible. Like preteen girls suddenly turning into (quite nice looking) older women. The dead coming back to life. Conspiracies. Secret Organizations.]
Re: video
And the fact that Bruce is good at it is rather telling.]
Is that so? [Though it's bitter, Rip can't quite hide that amusement from his voice. They would certainly see how true Bruce's words held.]
According to everyone present, where we are is Wonderland. I assume you're familiar with the story? [Be it from the original book or otherwise.] It is similar to what's called a "pocket universe," although reportedly entirely separate from other dimensions and the flow of time itself. We've all been brought here by forces beyond our control, and are similarly unable to dictate when we will leave--although people are said to "vanish" at times, presumably returned to their home universes.
And, despite the fact that you and I both come from Earth? There is every possibility that we do not, in fact, come from the same Earth.
video
You're speaking of...a parallel reality of some kind.
Re: video
[Can't forget that part.]
There is more, when you're ready to hear it.
video
[He insisted, perhaps a little too quickly. Still taking it all in. Although he did show signs of recognizing the name Lewis Carroll. Knew what it meant to reference Wonderland.]
[
Perhaps even a certain Mad Hatter]Re: video
I mentioned we could be from alternate Earths; equally possible is that we are from alternate points in time on the same Earth. Such has been the case even among the people I know here. It is something to consider, should those friends you mention find you.
You may know things they do not, and vise versa.
video
What you're saying...is that, even if I do see Alfred or Selina...there's a chance they won't be from the same point in time as me.
[That...could either be a very bad thing...or maybe work to his benefit. Somewhat.]
I don't understand. How is all of this possible?
Re: video
That's exactly right. [And from there, Rip could go into all the dangers inherent in speaking of the future or learning details he shouldn't know--but even he can recognize the line. With no indication as of yet that anyone from Bruce's circle has contacted him, for the moment it might well be a mute point anyway.]
That, unfortunately, isn't known. I've been told "magic" is at play, but it's hardly a satisfactory answer.
[He pauses a moment, lips pressed together as Rip has to compartmentalize his own frustration at that.]
What is seemingly true is that people are drawn in from various universes and times, deposited here, and then ultimately returned to the same exactly moment and location, but without the memories of whatever happens in "Wonderland."
video
[Comparatively speaking, this wasn't so ba--wait, what was that about 'magic'?]
I assume you're not talking about the kind performed on stage by a trained magician.
[Although he would not rule out some serious sleight of hand (or body) making this all possible. There were drugs. Hypnosis. The power of heavy suggestion. All this could be some elaborate illusion attempting to make others think they had been brought to some other world. As for the difference in memories...well...]
[That part, he could not explain. Yet.]
So people have been able to leave here. It is possible.
Re: video
[Sleight-est? Potentially bad puns aside, it would have to be quite an elaborate illusion indeed--and somehow still involve the drawing of people from alternate worlds and times. Such a thing would hardly be an easy feat, even from the perception of someone who has traveled through time on a regular basis for over a decade.
Ironically, the thought of them truly being there seems the simpler task to pull off.]
Possible, but as of yet beyond our control. And because people do not return to their proper place in time and location with any of their memories from this dimension, there is no way of letting any world beyond this one know what is going on--or of accessing the resources we might have had there.
[Example? A timeship, which Rip would dearly love to see land anywhere within this world.]
video
[If the pun registered at all, he gave no indication. The gears were turning so fast one could almost see steam wafting from his ears.]
If it is possible, then that's a start. It means there must be a way. We just have to find it.
Re: video
Indeed. Hold on to that determination, Bruce. It will serve you well.
[Especially since there is still more; the introduction to Wonderland is a long and lengthy one, filled with hardly any good news. But he can offer Bruce something positive: they are stuck for the duration, but not left without any means.]
By now, you've no doubt noticed the mansion. It's where we're all currently housed, and also provides our basic needs: food, shelter, clothing and such. The magic I spoke of also comes into play here. Each room contains a closet, from which can be wished anything you think of--within reason.
[Rip had gotten a scale replica of the Waverider rather than the real thing, but it's still fairly impressive.]
video
I noticed.
[Kind of hard to miss something as large as a mansion.
Though Wayne Manor may have still been bigger. Just saying.]A closet... [There was some shuffling around. A few jerky movements of the camera indicating movement. When Bruce spoke again, his face was off-center, eyes staring at something beyond the camera's field of vision.] I see it. How...does it work?
[So much skepticism. It must have been another trick of some kind; if it truly serviced the needs of everyone residing here...]
Re: video
Rip could wait; he has tried, and gotten rather far before he accepted that there is, in fact, no end.
At the moment, however, he instead grants Bruce the time needed to walk over to the closet. It's easy enough to assume what the boy is doing, given the shaky shots provided by the video.]
If it is like the one I used upon my arrival, you'll find it empty. To change that, think of what you want. Clothing or whatever; as I said, it provides almost anything, although there are limits to it. Something basic would be best.
video
What limits?
[The questions gave him time to think of something simple to test this with. Something that would be impossible for anyone to guess. Something that would offer definitive proof of what was happening.]
Re: video
[He turns his phone towards a set of shelves now set up in his room, strictly for the purposes of keeping things neat. Other than that, the decorations are rather non-existent; unlike many, Rip has not purposely altered his room beyond sheer function.
He has no desire to stay, so why make the place his own.]
When I first arrived, I attempted to see if I could wish up a particular...vehicle. [It's the simplest way to describe the Waverider without actually calling it a timeship.] I couldn't. But on asking for certain parts, I've gotten what you see there.
Individual components, but also not necessarily unique or uncommon. [Housing, minor engine parts, wires: those it seems he could get in abundance. Yet the things that truly made his ship able to travel through time, or Gideon's matrix? Remained off limits.]
video
[So what did that leave him?]
[Again, the camera shifted as he placed it down, giving a diagonal view of the closet. Cautiously, as if afraid it would shock him, Bruce placed his hand on the knob, turned, and...]
[There was a plate of sandwiches. And a pot of tea. With a kettle that looked...very familiar to him, as evident by the eyebrow raise.]
That's...impressive.
[He admitted, a little reluctantly.]
Re: video
[Especially for someone like Rip, who has years of going rather hungry in his past.]
There's also a kitchen and a dining room that provide much the same function, should you wish to prepare something yourself. The tea rooms offer something more akin to an afternoon snack, and a cafe run by some of the prisoners is located on one of the upper floors.
[As Bruce surmised in his initial broadcast: they are, at least, largely taken care of.]
