They aren’t in danger. She’s safe, and he is confident of it.
Whatever answer she seeks, Sara seems to find. She offers up the information freely, and yes, more than Rip should know but also enough for him to understand. Like Raymond, Sara has been pulled from his future rather than the past.
A rather eventful future, from the way she makes it sound.]
That’s—an atomic bomb, really? [No, he shouldn’t ask. Yet some things simply can’t be helped, and Rip frowns as he thinks it through.] It sounds as if I’ve put in some emergency measures. Likely to protect the team, although I can only guess at my motivations or what it might ultimately do.
[Rip suspects Sara might already be able to guess at the truth. She at last lets him go, and Rip in turn grants the space she asks for with that step back. He’s not so far removed from his own arrival that he’s forgotten his own rather poor reaction to it.]
I’ve yet to experience any of what you’ve just described.

now, time's worked its way again and given her a rip from her past, one that might not even know everything that had happened between them. the occulus. their defeat of vandal savage. laurel.
there's a twitch of something like a frown at the corner of her mouth which sara quickly dismisses by drawing her lips into a thin line, sharp in its feigned neutrality. )
What's the last thing you remember, then? ( a beat. ) Guess you don't have to skip out on all the gory details.

It takes him a moment to understand why she would be upset; for Rip, the time differences constituted an annoyance at most (until Mick found out about his future anyway, because no one besides him apparently believes in preserving the timeline). They are a matter of course, to be expected as one travels throughout time and space alike.
But she doesn’t know exactly when he’s from yet, does she? And there’s a great deal he could potentially not just be unaware of, but that he would of course refuse to hear.]
We were headed to Saint-Lo, France. [He knows this much. Of the Oculus and what it has cost them, and also this: the conversation they’d shared about her sister. Although from his perspective weeks have passed, and for Sara likely longer, he suspects her grief remains well-preserved in her mind.] Gideon had just informed us she was ready to make the jump. You had headed out of your room, and I was about to follow when I found myself here instead.

she swallows hard, buries the recollection somewhere. )
— Yeah, you're. A little behind there, Captain.
( not as behind as she'd feared, though, thankfully. it's a small comfort.
he doesn't know about how their plan to end savage for good ended up. he doesn't know about the surprise appearance of another waverider, of rex tyler and his warning to the legends crew. he doesn't know that they'd traveled to 1942 despite rex tyler's warning, but sara can live with that considering he also doesn't know about her little revenge plot against damien darhk she'd been — still is — stewing over, had almost tried to carry out. they're in some strange, unfamiliar place right now, and the last thing sara needs is a lecture about how they have to preserve the timeline, not disrupt it irreparably, it's their responsibility now that the time masters are gone, blah blah blah, and so on and so forth... )
How long have you been here — wherever here is?
no subject
Yet she has gone on. She is from the future, and Rip would expect Sara to do nothing less than thrive.]
Oh, that barely scratches the surface of it, I'm afraid. [Rip does not hold the distinction of being the member of their team from furthest back in the timeline, after all. But that is one of so many things to discuss. None of them will be easy to hear, given they are comprised of equal parts nonsense and torture, yet it is the reality of their situation.
As much as Rip himself had attempted to deny it at first. It's why he looks around briefly, then motions back the way he'd come.]
Let's head inside. I'll answer your questions on the way upstairs. [Plus Sara does look a bit worse for wear (though she's not sopping wet like Rip had wound up upon his own arrival). More importantly, so much of the evidence that convinced Rip of what he heard rested within the mansion's walls.
Until he can show it to her, however, she's going to have to show him a bit of patience.]
It's been less than two months for me. And here, as I am told, is a pocket dimension designed after the world of Wonderland.

( it's repeated, deadpan, as sara stops and looks at him for a moment, disbelieving. yet the way rip says it sounds so normal, like it's a completely matter-of-fact part of his day to day; the whole "pocket dimension" part kind of helps out in that regard, too, considering it sounds like exactly the type of thing the team would encounter on the waverider, even if sara can't exactly wrap her head around it right now. )
You mean — Alice. "Off with their heads." Creepy cats. Total acid trip. That Wonderland?
( it's kind of a rhetorical question, one which she just shakes her head at as she resumes following rip back towards the entrance of the mansion, which she'd tried to bypass earlier. she still hasn't been able to get a solid read on the mansion, but at least with rip here, who's apparently been here for months now, it should, in theory, be okay. at least she'll be able to clean herself up, she hopes, considering her hand's still looking kind of gnarly and stinging a little, the hem of her shirt's torn, and she's pretty sure she looks as much of a mess as she feels. )

One in the same...right down to the creepy cat, in fact. He made an appearance some weeks ago over the network that seems to be in place here. Oh, and try to remember where you first showed up; somewhere nearby there should have been a phone.
[Helpfully, Rip pulls his from his pocket. Typical 21st century fare, horribly outdated in Rip's eyes and yet essential here.]
If you didn't grab it we'll have to go back for it later. [They reach the door by then, and Rip politely holds it open for Sara to pass through first. It also gives him the opportunity to better take in her rather ragged appearance.] And hopefully we won't encounter whatever obstacle has left you so...disheveled.

( a beat. )
We're gonna have to be careful. ( a confirmation that she'd missed picking up the device without outright saying it; it was so dark, she couldn't have even seen it if she'd tried. the "we" that he offers in terms of retrieving is a small comfort, one which she's glad to hang on to and repeat. ) Luckily for us, I have a knife handy.
( but now that she's inside at last, she has to take a moment to stop and take in the entrance hall; it's grand and ornate and far too fancy — maybe even fancier than the queen mansion. her head tips up so she can look through the skylight, eyebrows lifted in a quiet awe. )

Quite; supposedly wandering too far into the forest causes a person's death--something I've been happy to leave untested.
[Particularly after he had experienced his own demise, thanks to the hardships of an event. All things he would have to detail for Sara, but first he allows her that chance to stare upwards, that moment of wonder unhampered by the full truth of their situation. Even Rip has to admit that this place is rather impressive.
All of its horrors aside.]
You'll find you have quite a bit more than that. Make no mistake: this is a prison, one of nefarious design, but by and large we are provided for. [By rather extraordinary means, ones he intends to show her along with the rest.
First, however? She needs to learn how many of them have been drawn in.]
And we are also not alone here. Several members of our team have been pulled in, all of us from differing times.

it nearly makes sara shudder. but she doesn't want to — can't — let rip know. instead, she'll turn her attention back towards her captain, beginnings of a sly smile creeping onto the corners of her mouth, weak as it is. )
Sounds like this place has a lot in common with the Waverider, ( sara ribs gently, her first attempt at anything less than gravely serious. their time ship certainly kept them well provided for, that's for sure — the prison part is up for debate, and mostly a joke.
at least the company apparently isn't too far off from the ship, according to rip. )
— Wait, really? Who else?
no subject
Rip supposes he should just be thankful she missed the commentary on potentially turning it into a vessel for leisure cruises.]
Oh, far less than you might think. My ship at least makes sense. [Made of parts and pieces and circuits and wires that all have a purpose and a place. This has been one of the more frustrating aspects of being trapped within Wonderland for Rip, and his mouth tightens briefly before he moves on to larger, more complicated matters. He motions towards a set of stairs, taking the lead to begin their ascent.]
Dr. Palmer, first of all; like you he is from what I see as the future, although given that he hasn't made mention of an atomic bomb hitting my ship--[Rip would get over that eventually, probably. Maybe.]--perhaps not so far as you.
Mr. Rory, on the other hand, comes from the past: from some point after Mr. Snart took him off the ship following his betrayal of us to the time pirates, but before the Time Masters found him.
[It's quite a significant jump back--yet not so jarring, Rip thinks, as the person he has to list last. Sara is from the future, so she knows of all that happens at the Vanishing Point.
Including of who was lost there. It is why he stops, turning to face Sara, to look at her directly as he rounds out the list.]
And Mr. Snart, who last remembers the explosion of the Oculus.
no subject
she follows him towards the stairs, nodding as he goes through each person and — maybe more importantly — their place in their timeline.
it's mostly good to hear the ray's here if only because he's from rip's future, which means that he can't be too far from where sara'd been yanked from. note to self: figure that out with ray once she's settled. if she's settled.
the mick news is slightly disconcerting considering sara remembers the state he'd been in leading up to him selling the team out to the time pirates and she remembers fighting against him on the waverider when the pirates had stormed the ship. she remembers questioning how snart could be so okay with killing his partner when he'd so vehemently insisted that sara didn't have to be a killer. she knows the truth now, but she can only imagine how mick must feel ...
except then rip stops in his tracks and turns to face her, watches her with what feels like a thinly veiled sense of scrutiny for what her reaction might be.
mr. snart. speak — think of the devil, even — and he appears, rises from the dead like a ghost. he remembers the explosion at the oculus. she remembers the explosion at the oculus. she remembers those last few moments, a stolen kiss that she felt like talking to anyone about after, buried away in memories of stupid card games and of wiping tears away from her face before anyone on the ship could question her.
it's a shock and a half, and she hates the way that rip waits for what she'll say or do before proceeding to wherever they're heading. sara lets out a soft exhale, lets her eyes flutter closed for a moment. it's a rare moment of vulnerability, whether it's relief that he's here or pain at the recollection of what had happened. it ends almost as quickly as it began, though, with her eyes blinking open, turning a head to glance towards the stairs before them before answering, ) One hell of a crew you got here.
no subject
Particularly since Sara truly has no idea where she was meant to have ended up when she found herself in Wonderland instead.]
…Indeed. [He would like to offer more: an apology, perhaps, for being the bearer of the news. But as she so often does Sara takes her feelings and tucks them away, locks them behind walls that Rip cannot always see past. He hesitates but a moment before resuming his upward climb, sure she would do the same.]
Although I must confess, it’s less a crew than an unruly group of individuals most days. [Leonard and Mick in particular, which should come as no surprise. Rip has not told this to either of them, or to anyone else within Wonderland for that matter—but as he looks over at the woman, he feels compelled to tell her.
She is, after all, Sara.]
And it is rather hard to claim to be a Captain when one doesn’t possess a ship. [Or the brand of loyalty those close confines and shared mission had inspired.]
