( She doesn't mean to pluck the words that Claire had thought, though it was an easier example than using the vague 'dangerous' )
But I'm not ashamed.
( At least not of what she can do, just a little frustrated at her lack of control.
She was a little relieved at this woman's reactions -- her casual rolling with what Jean had, or could have done )
You sound like you're used to it.
( Or might have seen something else before )

Well, I've been here a few months, seen some heinous shit. Watched good people struggle. Not a lot different than working in an ER, honestly.
[ you either adapt or lose your mind. ]
But, I've never had to deal with having abilities, so it's probably easy for me to say.

( Though she didn't know what the difference would be -- they were both stuck, though Jean wasn't sure she could remember how it felt not having her powers. It had been so long for her )
Though I don't know whether it mirroring what we're used to is a good thing.
( They'd have a base of comparison but... )

closer to home: a blind man capable of moving with more grace that the sighted, a woman whose acerbic wit was the only thing stronger that her arms, and a bulletproof man with a voice like butter. sweet christmas. ]
Well, you know. Gotta make your own good things, sometimes. [ she nods at the saucer between them, and the book. ] You were lost in your reading when it started. Something in there not sitting right with you?

This place doesn't sit right. I've seen some... incredible things, but it's been predictable. It's been for a reason.
( And typically it isn't done to simply cause someone pain, not unless you were on the wrong side of the mutant fight )
None of this is.

[ cause it's probably way out of my league. but with inhumans abounding these days, maybe a quick post to the network would be worth it. since you're not ashamed...
claire watches jean closely as she thinks now, eye contact about as direct as it can get before she's gotta buy jean a drink or take her to dinner.
right? ]

( Someone that wasn't here, but Jean had studied with Charles enough to remember what he'd taught her, to be able to work on it without him there. She didn't need him to hold her hand, even if this wasn't usual.
Her eyes narrow at the woman's thoughts, the words feeling more direct now than when Claire had thought before. It wasn't a memory, or a throwaway comment but a question. One for Jean )
For someone that hasn't dealt with abilities you're very informed about them.
( Informed, experienced... she's got Jean figured out already )

Just because I attract people with them like flies to vinegar doesn't mean I have the right to assume what it's like.
[ just patch 'em up and keep 'em going and try not to get killed on the way. ]
Part of staying alive is staying in my lane.

( Especially when some would take any other claims harshly, though they'd probably also take Claire's current stance negatively too )
Though there's a difference between not being ashamed and not publicising something. I know you've seen it.
( The fear over abilities, of something more than human. Masked vigilantes, people with secrets... it all added up to something in the same vein )

[ she racks her brain for other options, leafing through pages of what she has experienced and what she might remember from others. matt had guarded his secret desperately close. jessica was a little more lenient with using her abilities. luke hadn't had a choice.
but danny... sweet baboo baby boy danny rand and his iron fist. that boy couldn't wait to tell people about how special he was. ]
I've been meaning to post to the network about providing emergency care for people with abilities, anyway. Could add in a question about management?
[ after refusing the use of blood to bring a vampire back to health and being responsible for their death, well. you kill, you learn. ]

A question wouldn't hurt. I might be able to help with yours.
( There's a thought, a wonder about what Claire has seen and how much exactly she knows. Jean's seen a taste of it with the memories she'd accidentally read, though with as curious as she was she wasn't about to do it without permission -- and not before pulling her control a little tighter )
I have some experience of emergency care.
