The limit doesn't exist. [ he shakes his head, grinning. he'd know. been here a year and wonderland's still serving freaking twenty-course meals a day, fit for a part of one hundred when it's just him. ] It's like there's an endless rabbit hole of food; it just never runs out. [ when he thinks of a burger, the next moment he looks at his empty plate, he finds a burger sitting on it. ] I've been trying it out. For one week all I ate was burgers, breakfast, lunch, dinner ... Still had them a week later.

[ he thinks about eating that burger, but he leaves it for the time being. ] I'm Barry.

[ sit, the woman had said. and although peggy has witnessed her around the mansion -- although she's taken careful note of certain connections made -- she's not bothered with an introduction. there are some swathes of time where she feels inclined to write off a future she can't understand; this is one such swathe, this month, and now she finds herself inadvertently walking a bit too close to what she suspects is another piece of it.

if not her future, then certainly the world's. she knows enough to know the redhead is dangerous.

one of peggy's hands finds her hip. ] I'm not sure my company will be an improvement, exactly.

[So it could be that it isn't entirely coincidence and luck that Natasha invited this particular bar-goer to join her. Natasha didn't plan it this way, but she saw her opportunity and she took it.

If she knows who Peggy is however (she does), she doesn't give any indication that it matters (it might).]

That all depends on your perspective. [Natasha sips her beer, then leans her elbows on the table top, bottle still dangling from her fingers rather than setting it down.] Either way, sounds like my problem, not yours.

"You know I could just conjure you up one instead of watching you wait for it to steep." Billy is leaning against the counter sipping from his own coffee cup, amused smile on his face.

"Have you tried the coffee shop downstairs yet?"

"It tastes better when I make it."

Kate pushes her palms off the counter -- turning around to glance at Billy. Here's an easy camaraderie. Nothing is forced, despite the years between them. Just being around him puts her a little bit more at ease. God, she'd missed him.

"...But the coffee shop's alright." Kate crosses her arms, then goes in for a brag. "You know, Wolverine likes my coffee. Well. A Wolverine. Pretty sure he wasn't from home-home."

"Well that's just mean. I make perfectly good coffee." It's easy to fall into banter and he had missed her too, so much. As much as this place sucks having her here was good, he wasn't even sorry that he was glad she had showed up.

"Just alright? I'll have you know I came up with a lot of the drinks on the secret menu." He spent entirely too much time in the coffee shop with Darcy. Entirely too much.

"I'm pretty sure Wolverine would drink motor oil if it was caffeinated." He's not saying that wolverine doesn't have high standards but...

[ He spotted her when he first got there, and he knows what she's doing. He would be a terrible best friend if he didn't. She's casing the place, which means she's just as confused as he is. So he follows and he knows that she knows he is, because Natasha is the best at what she does, and he's not exactly trying to hide.

But he'll wait and see how long she wants to play this game, because it's sorta fun, like old times when the entire world didn't know who they were.

Still, he's not ready for it when he turns a corner and she's waiting for him. ]

[Jemma thinks they ought to start working out. They're too frequently involved in physical altercations here, and she doesn't think it serves either of them to be left with "noodle arms". (Noodle arms, though!! Jemma Simmons can be so hurtful when she wants to be.) He's in the fitness center out of obligation more than anything, and doing anything but what he's arrived to do.

The trouble is these weight machines. They're unoiled and noisy. Vastly in need of improvement. And though that's the complaint that starts it, it's not long before he's got one taken apart entirely. At least half of these pullies are redundant and could be combined. It's better to redesign the machine from the ground up, he thinks.

He notices her after he's already surrounded by aluminum bits and half-dismantled components. Oh, has the Black Widow returned again? She's probably back to not knowing who he is. He nods once in her direction, but otherwise doesn't make a move toward her.]

Of course they move. I designed this place. [ Or so he's been told, by some people he doesn't remember. This place is a kind fuck.

But he watches the girl shoot and she's good, really good. He's very impressed. But he's still Hawkeye and cocky enough to draw his own bow and shoot down three targets while only half paying attention. He's aware he's an ass. ]

Bar

The bar was familiar, and he was comfortable there. He'd spent a lot of time in bars, and behind bars over the years. First as a busboy and then as a bartender. He knew this routine, knew how it worked and it wasn't a surprise he ended up there. Especially because he was in need of a drink...or five.

Gym

[It's a sign just how at a loss she is that she doesn't draw out the game further, because it is a game because it's one she's good at, but right now she can use an ally a whole lot more than she can use a little refresher in spy vs spy.

Seeing him up close is more of a relief than she lets on, her expression a careful balance of wry composure.]

Hey. [Because that's how you greet a friend when you run into each other in unknown territory.] How much longer were you planning to make me wait before you said hello?

"Hey. Maybe I like mine motor oil, too."

Kate's smile doesn't dampen. A bite of antagonism aside, she's not worried about hurting his feelings -- secret menu or no secret menu. She is unabashed in her verdict, but expects it not to dig too deep under his skin. Maybe, had he been a stranger, she might have felt bad for the slight against the coffee shop.

But he's Billy. He knows she adores him.

[ -- show off. but, then again, she can't begrudge anyone for refusing to hide their light under a bushel. especially when kate also watches his stance with an open curiousity. she's utterly in the dark about who he is -- who he might be -- so for the time being he's simply novel.

doesn't mean he doesn't remind her of someone, though. ]

You did? [ a flicker of chagrin. ] It's open to the public, right? I hope I'm not...trespassing on your turf or anything like that.

[ because she's real tempted to match him shot for shot but she also knows better than to spit on courtesy. ]

"You do not. Or you wouldn't be waiting for a French press to brew." He smirks at her because he knows. He never takes her words to heart, the effect of having been friends for years. He adores her just as much.

"If I conjure us up some breakfast are you going to turn your nose up at that to? Are you going to make me cook?" Probably not a good idea. Magic food is better than food on fire.

My home is called Ravka. Will your pizza tempt my loyalties?

Kate spares a glance for the press. It's gonna be ready any moment now -- but somehow, as she squares back up to Billy, he seems like the better priority. More vital than coffee, even, in this moment.

"I wouldn't say no to pancakes," she demures. "With real maple syrup. I wanna taste Vermont in every bite, buddy."

Friend. My pizza will tempt your everything.

[Natasha knows recognition when she sees it—all the different kinds of recognition. She knows what it looks like when someone realizes they'e standing face to face with Black Widow, and she knows what it looks like when someone knows what that really means or if they think she's some kind of a vigilante or superhero.

There's other kinds of recognition too. The kind hat comes with being familiar with someone's work, or being acquaintances.

That's why Fitz's reaction gets her attention.

That, and the fact he's disassembling one of the machines. There's a brief hesitation, no signs of recognition on her end, before she diverts herself from one o the treadmills to make contact.]

That's one way to get a workout, I suppose.

Just one more floor at least. [ That's his version of I'm glad you're here too. The relief goes both ways, if he has to be suddenly kidnapped and stuck in parts unknown Natasha is the only one he wants watching his back. ] learn anything useful? Besides what this pamphlet says? [ He hold up said pamphlet that doesn't really explain much. ]

I'm skeptical about this whole Wonderland thing. I mean, where the rabbit? And the catapillar smoking hookah. It's a bit of a let down.

So I've been told. Apparently I've been here before. [ He doesn't remember but they say that's normal. ] Yeah, go ahead, shoot away. I don't usually get people who appciate a good bow. [ It's all guns now, but there is a finesse and an elegance in what they do. ]

[ He steps up next to her properly. ] You up for some friendly competition?

And what will such temptation cost me?

It wasn't running optimally. Most of the machines are customized for superpowered usage, but a few were default from the closets. Not as specialized as we've come to expect.

[ been here before. well, that gets filed away. she might be out here killing time and spending arrows but she's a private investigator now; her mind's gotta be always open for clues. leads. points of interest. and maybe this is one of them.
