SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER TEST DRIVE MEME
It's Chinese for 'Japan.'

Prompt A: Serious Event

A memory is displayed. It's yours, the most traumatic of your life whether it was a terrifying clown encounter or the death of someone you love. It's on a loop for everyone to see. You can enter the memory and take your own place, but no matter how hard you try, you cannot alter the outcome. You're forced to try in vain to change what happened or watch until you decide it's too much and walk away. If you can.

Prompt B: Lighter Event

Welcome to Storybrooke.

You've lived in a quiet town in Maine for as long as you can remember. You are a fishmonger or a diner employee, perhaps you work at the hospital. Whatever you do and whoever you are, it's not the real you. You are cursed and you know no other life outside of Storybrooke.

When the curse breaks (either from True Love's Kiss or, in a more TDM friendly, handwaved way), you have two sets of memories: who you were, and who you are. Do you choose to accept all that you were cursed to believe, or would you rather slip back into your old life? The choice is yours.

Prompt C: ediS rorriM

Use this prompt to test out your mirrors. Are they loyal to the new White Queen or do they think she's too good to be true? Do they long to cross over or spend their days tormenting reals? Whatever the scenario, know that the Queen is watching, and let that guide you - or not.

Prompt D: Choices

Any scenario goes! Thread out your character's arrival, have them act like a long-established resident, let our past events inspire your scene, or write up literally any Wonderland-based scenario you feel like playing with.

Rules

Test drive memes go up every other month. Please note that any threads made as part of the test drive meme don't count towards your activity check, and they can't be used as samples for any future applications. Thank you for understanding, and have fun!

[He can't help but to smile at that.]

Did a bit trying to catch it up, ordering things I thought might not know but never got anything wrong.

Nope, nothing odd in that at all.

[He is amused though.]

So these are just all the rage then in your time? Interesting. I find them useful, would more so if my sister was here. Could talk with her any time of the day or night.

[Harass might be a better term.

Though his smile is wide and fairly cheeky.]

Oh a friend. They left it laying about and so I'm holding it for them.
holyshihtzu: (✺ i guess i never knew)

[personal profile] holyshihtzu 2018-10-25 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I know, it's like they can read out minds. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet.

[ 50% cool, 50% creepy, kind of like this whole place. ]

Well, the iPhone just came out, but $1000 for a phone is kind of steep. It's just an iPod that can make phone calls, right?

[ Oh, Jules, how quickly times will change.

She gives him a wary look at his answer, though. ]

So you have a friend, and you're just holding onto that for them? Why not just find them and give it back?

relentlessness: (Really?)

[personal profile] relentlessness 2018-10-25 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's disconcerting, isn't it? I keep thinking there has to be something to stump them but I haven't found out what yet.

[But he is determined to keep trying, if only that it amuses him.

He stares at her for the longest time, staring at the device in his hand. Lifting his gaze, staring at her like she's sprouting two heads.]

People pay a thousand pounds for these things? You can buy a manor with that. I...

[Considering money from the time he knew, and imagining spending that much blows his mind.]

Why would anyone spend that much on... I derailed a train that likely didn't cost that much.
holyshihtzu: (✺ she couldn't have been any kinder)

[personal profile] holyshihtzu 2018-10-28 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Inflation. A thousand dollars in my time is not the same as a thousand dollars in yours.

[ That's putting it mildly. ]

Don't think I didn't notice you ignored my question. Who is your friend?
relentlessness: (Worry lines)

[personal profile] relentlessness 2018-10-29 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
[He stares at her for the longest time, finally shaking his head.]

So I face that the Templars win. The only way I can imagine a world where things like this are worth that much money, and it's considered just part of this inflation.

[It seems to bother him a lot, seeing all of his work being for nothing. He slides the other device from his pocket and pushes it towards her.]

I'm sure you'll figure out who eventually. I haven't a clue.

[Something in all of that has taken the fire out of him for the time being, learning that literally a life time of work from the time he has been old enough to stand is for nothing.]
holyshihtzu: (✺ the way you look so kind)

[personal profile] holyshihtzu 2018-10-29 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about Templars but if it gets you to stop stealing devices? Whatever works.

[ She takes the device, pocketing it confidently because she will actually find whoever it belongs to.

Still, he looks kind of bummed out and since she just gave him a cupcake it doesn't seem very nice to leave him like that. ]

Hey, Jacob, it's fine, you know, all the worlds are different, right? So, maybe in your world, iPhones will be a lot cheaper.
relentlessness: (Could you not)

[personal profile] relentlessness 2018-10-29 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't theft. It's acquiring. People should not leave items laying about. Though learning they're the items of the rich makes more sense why they don't seem to care. The poor don't leave cherished items just lying about.

[Sadness and bitterness tinge his tones as he gives her a look.]

I know that you wouldn't likely know if our worlds were the same or not. The Templars are not as open as they once were when they ravaged the world, and those that fight them do so from the shadows.

[Unless you're Jacob Frye, but that's another story.]

But if people are paying that much for the ability to communicate, they have won. [He holds up a hand.] And don't tell me that this inflation changes things. You already made it clear you did not have one because of the cost.
holyshihtzu: (✺ cannot see the sky)

[personal profile] holyshihtzu 2018-11-03 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say there's a 99% chance my world is not run by Templars.

[ Although that might explain the Illuminati, but Juliet isn't even going to go there. ]

Taking something that doesn't belong to you is theft. It doesn't matter how expensive it is. [ She might be small but her opinions are big. ] And wasn't going to say I disagree, but that's how it works. It's called capitalism.
relentlessness: (Brow)

[personal profile] relentlessness 2018-11-05 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to smile at you sweetly and nod, and pretend like most of the sheep would say the entirely same thing in London rather than fighting back against control.

[And he does smile then, nodding.]

Not that I think you're sheep, but they're good. They're smart. They know how to twist the world. You're speaking of it. This capitalism. That is their rule, and you wouldn't know it.

[And he's earnest and believes that, sadly given the hurt in his eyes as he says it.]

I wish it didn't seem true but if toys like those are being kept from the masses, kept from communicating with one another... [He sighs, shaking his head.]
holyshihtzu: (✺ let her walk on by)

[personal profile] holyshihtzu 2018-11-05 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not a sheep!

[ Wow, Jacob. R U D E.

The look in her eyes softens her, though. This is obviously something very personal for him and Juliet is not insensitive to that. ]

And that's not really what I meant, plenty of people have cell phones. It's just the kind of cell phone that's different. Sure, they don't all have fancy screens and apps and can play all your music, but not everyone needs all that. I'm not saying my world is perfect, but it's not all bad, either.
relentlessness: (Really?)

[personal profile] relentlessness 2018-11-06 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Jacob shifts, turning to face her more fully.]

Tell me something. In your time, are most beholden to those that run the factories? To working themselves to the bone as if they are indentured servants? Do their task masters run things with an iron fist without regard for their lives and livelihood?

[He doesn't expect her to deny it, and yet he hopes. Oh how he hopes.]
