MAY/JUNE TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to the EWAY TDM!

Prompt A: Serious Event

Hellhounds are coming for a visit! For the first day of the event, residents will hear crazy howling coming from the direction of the forest, but it's off in the distance. If anyone investigates, they won't be able to find the source of the howling.

On the morning of the second day, the hounds approach the mansion. They are invisible, only able to be seen by demons, but they can certainly be heard by their growls, snarls, and barking. They aren't the most delicate of beasts, so there will be plenty of broken furniture and doors as they charge around inside the Mansion.

Hellhounds take no prisoners. They attack viciously and woe betide those who end up in the same room as one. A death by hellhound is nasty and probably slightly traumatizing, if remembered. Here is what one would expect when a hellhound comes near.

There are defenses against them: lining plenty of salt along doorways and windows, or even standing in a circle of it can keep them at bay. They can also be blown to high heaven, if one can rig up a bomb big enough. Barring a door very well can also help, but hellhounds are strong and tenacious, so they'll eventually break it down. They just won't stop once they have someone's scent.

Prompt B: Lighter Event

This event is bringing movies to life! For each character, there will be one movie represented in the mansion in some way. This will most likely be either a setting change (where part of the setting just shows up on the grounds or inside), the sudden appearance of creatures or animals (because everyone needs velociraptors running around), or the general themes of the movie affecting the population (like some mysterious American Pie rooms on the second floor that make people want to lose their virginity before their high school graduation).

How do you decide which movie your character would bring to the mansion? Well, one of two ways. The first is that if your character is from a canon where they would have watched movies, then you would pick something that they have seen. Movies that only exist in their canon are 100% okay to inflict on the mansion. The second is that if your character is from the past/a mystical magical movieless land/just doesn't care about movies, then you're free to pick any movie you want to add to the mix. Movies that they have seen in the mansion are also okay to use, if you would prefer.

For the characters who are film buffs, big fans of a movie, or just plain watch too many movies, this event will go one step further. These characters will think that they are actually a part of whatever movie the mansion brought to the event on their behalf. They will take on one of the character roles from this movie and thoroughly believe that they are really this character. Being plucked out of their movie will not phase them too much – they will be trying to stick to the general plot of their movie as much as possible. They will gain or lose abilities based on who they think they are (someone from Star Wars might be able to use a lightsaber, but if they were a wizard before they wouldn't be able to use their wand for this event), and their personality will change accordingly, but there will still be traces of who they really are underneath. Little details that don't quite match, like certain phobias or their annoying habit of whistling too much. Of course, their friends who don't have any interest at all in movies will be thoroughly confused and probably try to snap them out of their craziness, but that most likely won't be easy. They're busy! They have to go blow up the Death Star! Or find their son Nemo! Or stop the aliens from stealing all their women and gold!

Prompt C: ediS rorriM

The mirror side is Queen-less. Or so it appears. How do the mirrors cope with this new turn events, what do they do? What does it mean to be a mirror? Feel free to have your mirrors contemplate it together, or reach out to their real counterparts by writing on mirrors to communicate.

Prompt D: Choices

Any scenario goes! Thread out your character's arrival, have them act like a long-established resident, let our past events inspire your scene, or write up literally any Wonderland-based scenario you feel like playing with.

Rules

Test drive memes go up every other month. Please note that ONE (1) TDM thread may be used as an application sample. Minimum 5 sentences. ♥ TDM threads do not count for AC. ♥ The next TDM will be for July/August ♥ Have fun!

Yes, but that is an ancient belief not founded in fact or logic.

[Spock you are discussing logic to a magical unicorn]
bibliocorn: (Family relations here are fucked)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-06-10 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[At least the magical unicorn has a lot of faith in fact and logic. It just so happens that 'magic' falls firmly into those two things, back home.]

Well, I suppose if they used solar salt or rock salt instead of table salt there could be better grounds for purity but honestly, I still don't understand how it's supposed to deter a hellhound. Surely a magical barrier would make more sense.
narrowly: (Really?)

[personal profile] narrowly 2019-06-10 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[He raises an eyebrow. You can practically see the restraint he's using]

I believe we can both agree on finding an alternate solution. Perhaps if we could safely study these creatures, we could discover another way to incapacitate them.
bibliocorn: (Mud Briar you're runing the moment)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-06-10 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Try not to burst a blood vessel, Spock.]

Well. It's a little tricky to catch something you can't see- but if we found a way to make one visible, it might work a little better?

[He rolls his eyes.]

Knowing Wonderland, that could be as simple as dumping a can of paint on one.

[personal profile] narrowly 2019-06-11 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
[He takes this suggestion with full seriousness]

Yes, that would be an effective, if perhaps a wasteful, method.
bibliocorn: (But I'm trying to learn)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-06-11 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Lucky for us, we live in a place where we can get anything we want from the closets at any given time.

[Thanks, magical weird mansion. ]
narrowly: (Default)

[personal profile] narrowly 2019-06-11 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Fascinating. If these "closets" can replicate any item, I believe we can find something better than paint. Thank you for the suggestion.
bibliocorn: (So basically we're fucked)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-06-12 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
PYou're welcome. Though be aware the closets are tricky, sometimes they'll give you kind of what you want but it'll be a little...off. It's one of those 'be super specific about what you're wishing for' kind of deals.
narrowly: (Default)

[personal profile] narrowly 2019-06-13 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
[He tilts his head to the side thoughtfully] You mean to say that the replication process is prone to error. I understand and will be aware of this.

In the meantime, do you know of any place on the grounds that has been free of these creatures?
bibliocorn: (Jesus Star just let me sleep)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-06-13 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I'm not sure if it's because the closets are inherently damaged or if it's just Wonderland's naturally chaotic magic causing problems. Probably the latter.

[Wonderland's magic has been a nigh-constant source of frustration for him. It's hard to study something that's so nonsensical. ]

Hmm. There's a cave system under the mansion. It's usually a safe place for everyone. I don't know if that's the case now, but most of the time it's the case.
narrowly: (Staring)

[personal profile] narrowly 2019-06-13 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
If this place is indeed attempting to emulate Wonderland, then I would agree. [He's not completely sold on this being actually Wonderland]

Given our current predicament, I believe it is an option worth exploring.
bibliocorn: (I made an attempt)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-06-14 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. It's not a story that exists in my world, but chaos for chaos' sake is a concept I'm familiar with.

[Discord would love it here. ]

It usually is. Better that than nothing. Do you know the way to them? I can show you, otherwise.
narrowly: (Default)

[personal profile] narrowly 2019-06-14 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. It is a universally-understood concept.

[He nods his thanks] I am still unfamiliar with the terrain, so your guidance would be appreciated.
bibliocorn: (We'd be home by now)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-06-15 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not a problem. It's a good location to know, you know, for safety.

[He'd rather not someone risk death just because they didn't know how to find the safest place in the mansion. ]

We- uh we could make a break for it now?
narrowly: (Default)

[personal profile] narrowly 2019-06-15 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods. He would prefer taking the lead, but he doesn't have a weapon and doesn't know where they're going. So he'll just stick close to the unicorn and step in if a hellhound attacks]
bibliocorn: (We're gonna die in the forest)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-06-16 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[He appreciates the assist there, a fighter he is not. He'll gallop off towards the caves, eventually skidding to a halt once they get to the entrance.]

Here they are! They go right under the mansion.
narrowly: (Default)

[personal profile] narrowly 2019-06-16 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[He peers inside, considering]

Thank you for your assistance. Until we are certain this is safe from attack, I recommend guards at the entrance.
bibliocorn: (Wait what no books?)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-06-16 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Um. That would probably be a better job for the fighters, honestly. People who can... guard?

[AKA, not him, not ever him, no thanks.]

But you're welcome. Glad to be of service.
narrowly: (Default)

[personal profile] narrowly 2019-06-16 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I agree. I will make inquiries.

[He pauses a moment] I am Spock. If I can be of assistance in the future, do not hesitate to contact me.
bibliocorn: (Damn skippy)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-06-17 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm Sunburst. Good to meet you. And thanks, I'll remember that.
