Matt Murdock | Daredevil (Netflix)
[ If anything will give Matt proof that he's in Wonderland, it's the library. His senses can't seem to make left or right of the place, but if the stories are to be believed and the library caters itself to its guests, then... Well, he's going to see for himself, so to speak. Matt folds up his cane and feels his way along the walls. Whether he found himself by the law section by sheer chance or some 'divine will' is an entirely different question.
He pulls a book out at random and opens it, running his hand over the pages while he looks straight ahead. A bit of an odd sight for someone sighted, but Matt's checking for one thing-- braille. Page after page, just as advertised. He'd recognize Thurgood Marshall anywhere. ]
Damn, they're good.
[ He pulls out another. Same thing. He's going to be here a while. ]
THE FENCES
[ Naturally for all that Matt may or may not believe the magic, he wants to leave, he has a city to protect and that isn't getting done by staying in some creepy, weird mansion. He waits for the cover of night and even gets dressed up in his Man In Black duds to try and make his escape, and yet despite sensing the fences just on the edge of his 'sight,' he doesn't seem to be getting any closer.
He's just back at the front door again, sweaty and frustrated for somehow taking the same wrong turn five times. Someone throw him a bone or something, seriously. ]
OR ANYTHING ELSE...
[ idk feel free to wildcard me too ]
the library
["hey" is a word that means a lot of things. especially between them. well, the three of them, but she's trying not to think about their missing third member. in this instance, "hey" means something along the lines of, "i'm sorry we're both still stuck in this weird place and can't get home but i figured i might find you here among stacks of books in what appears to be your natural habitat."]
They're, uh, really accommodating, huh?
[some days, karen page doesn't want to believe in magic. it doesn't matter that a giant hole ripped open in the sky or that thor, actual god of thunder shot across the cityscape fighting off aliens. magic seemed to only do bad things. it seemed easier to ignore it was real, than try and hope for good things like unicorns that vomit rainbows or wonderlands.
there had to be bad here, too. nothing in life was this nice.]
How long do you think you want to stay here? The kitchen apparently makes food just by wishing. [yup, even saying it feels freaky.] On the plus side, no more top ramen?
[somewhere, foggy nelson is quipping "Unless you wish for that. Don't wish for that, Matt."]
no subject
[ It's as good an answer as any, when you're stuck in some weird place that maybe might be on a different planet, if the stuff with Thor is to be believed. But at least the company's good. (Even if Foggy will probably worry himself half to death once he figures out they're missing and it's not because of some Daredevil-related mishap.) ]
That's one way to put it, yeah.
[ He shrugs. "Creepily accommodating" might be a better way, but should Matt really be complaining when he can finally read all those books the library back home insisted were 'too expensive' to order in braille?
The answer is yes, of course he can. They're trapped, making the best of it is not really Matt's MO, but then again he's not going to find anything of real use in the library, is he? ]
I can think of worse things to eat than top ramen. [ Some people even enjoy that crap. And speaking of things that normally taste terrible-- ] Think that magic kitchen makes coffee?
no subject
[she moves closer to him, not quite getting in his space, but definitely closer.]
Coffee and something that isn't top ramen, come on. I'll try and find the way back. Did you know the library sometimes moves? Like, sometimes you can get there from the third floor, and sometimes...
[she trails off. she's just talking to talk. it's nerves, it's fear, whatever. talking to talk, which is a little pointless. she holds out her arm for matt.]
Well, it doesn't matter. I'm pretty sure the kitchen is always on the first floor, so we can't get too lost.
no subject
[ Matt easily moves into Karen's space and smiles, for what it's worth. He could feel her nerves even if she wasn't rambling. ]
Sounds like the more I learn about this place, the less sense it makes.
[ Never mind what a nightmare it would be to have to find a room that moves when you're blind, that is not how rooms work. He makes a bit of a show to reach and hold onto her arm but his hold is firm. He promised he'd look out for her once, this is no different. ]
Lead the way.
[ And if the rooms really do move he's going to need her help no matter what. ]
no subject
[which she's clearly about to launch into, before she takes a glance around the immediate space near matt]
We're not leaving anything behind, right?
[who knows what happens to things you leave behind, really. but after confirmation theyre not, she heads towards the last place she saw a door, praying its still there.]
Did you know, for example, that the kitchen changes every day? Yesterday, it looked like a 50s style diner, but when I went down for breakfast it was all Formica countertops and it looked like it came out of someone's trailer-home.
[which was to say, it was also a lot smaller.]
That's crazy, right? Spaces don't work like that.

the fences
[Sans is somewhere out here just watching the stars away from the noise and business of the apartment, and he has been quietly amusing himself watching this random ninja trying and failing to run for the hills. Kind of literally.]
[Here he comes again. Sans stifles a chuckle. Alright, he'd probably better say something before the poor guy pisses Wonderland off and it decides to warp him into the ocean. He's pretty sure that can happen. This place is weird.]
hey, uh. you know you're not gonna get out that way, right?
[Hey Mattie, what's it like when a skeleton with no breath and no heartbeat suddenly speaks up in the dead of freaking night?]
no subject
But you ask a good question so let me tell you the answer. Matt has been absorbed enough in his endeavor that he had been ignoring the weird rando skeleton because let's face it, you start to ignore weird stuff when you can hear butterflies flap their tiny wings. As long as it doesn't have a pulse it can't hurt you, he would say, before this moment in which a thing without a pulse started talking to him.
Look, Sans, if you could see Matt's face behind his bandanna-mask thing, he would look shocked. Instead he looks kind of just put out, but definitely nonplussed. nbd, weird voice attached to a skeleton. A ninja knows better than to wear his emotions on his sleeve.
Says the guy who cries in the first episode.]I was afraid of that. [ But really tho. ] So is there another way?
no subject
[Anyway.]
[Sans can't see the guy's face, and his voice gives nothing away, which is all rather fascinating. One of Sans's best skills is in reading people, but with this guy's face all covered, it's virtually impossible. Considering his eyes are covered, maybe he can't see Sans at all, or maybe he just doesn't have eyes. Can that happen to humans? Humans are weird.]
[He chuckles and shrugs.]
nah, not really. you're kinda stuck here, same as the rest of us. guess you haven't read the pamphlet yet, huh?
no subject
Considering Matt is used to hearing heartbeats and smelling sweat and junk, this is by far the most unnerving conversation he's ever had. With a sentient skeleton. ]
But the fence is right there.
[ He even gestures toward it. There's some kind of space/time law being broken here and Matt is having none of it. Trust me, Sans, you would have a field day if this was "normal unassuming blind laywer" Matt. In fact, some of that emotion bleeds in a little because no one can keep a straight face through a word like pamphlet. ]
There wasn't seriously a pamphlet, was there?
no subject
heh, right? [He even takes a step toward the fence, just to see it not get closer against all physical laws.]
pretty wild, yeah? i'm pretty sure it's magic. not sure spacetime is supposed to bend that way.
[Though boy can it twist into interesting shapes.]
there was. should stick those in doctor's offices. along with the, "your body is changing, what does it mean?" and "how to improve your bullet patterns in 3 easy steps." just slip it in there with those--"what to do in the event of dimensional displacement."
...also that second one might just be specific to monsters. you can ignore that one. assuming your human.

[ The voice comes from behind him as Natasha melts out of the shadows, a hint of amusement in her tone as she saunters towards the door, having been doing a bit of her own training outside despite the late hour. She's been keeping odd hours here herself, so thinks nothing of it. Although his outfit gets a thoughtful once-over in curiosity as she approaches him. ]
no subject
That obvious, huh?
[ People don't usually just chat him up when he's dressed like this but hey, if anyone can make it work, it's Matt. ]
no subject
Still, there's a smile in her voice as she comes to a stop beside him, arms crossed casually over her chest as she regards him curiously. ]
Only to someone looking. You picked a good time for it, at least.
Were you looking for something specific or just a way out?
[ Because she doesn't recognize him, which means he might very well be a newcomer here, still testing the limits this place has restricted them with. ]
no subject
[ At least Daredevil does. Matt would have an easier time of things if there was some way to lawyer himself out of this. ]
I was hoping I'd find a way out this way. But I guess if it were this easy, there wouldn't be anyone left.
library;
[ She wasn't stalking him. Natasha gravitates. To her other self, to the variations of the people she knows. In this case — loved, until that love transformed into something else. Matt always had a way of knowing when she was around, no matter how silent she was, but Natasha doesn't bother with that. She very carefully takes his hand in hers and places it on the book she's holding. It's Pablo Neruda, in Braille. ]
[ Sometimes, she's very sentimental. ]
Is this what you're looking for?
no subject
She moves like she knows what she's doing. And Pablo Neruda, well—that can't be a coincidence. ]
Do I know you from somewhere?
[ This Matt never lived in San Francisco, he hasn't quite made as many mistakes. Yet. ]
no subject
[ And most of it, she's not interested in outlining. Enough experience with the alternate here means only echoes of the people she knows at most, and Natasha was never one to have the same expectations. The important lines are this, as Neruda says, plant that never blooms but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers. She never had to weigh histories with Matt. He knew. ]
My name is Natasha Romanoff. It's a pleasure to meet you.
no subject
Black Widow.
[ That doesn't explain anything at all, though. ]
You know who I am?
[ He means Daredevil. But the love poem kind of makes him wonder, too. ]
no subject
[ Nelson & Murdock. Daredevil. There's very few pulses Natasha doesn't know the beat of, and some things stay the same. Steve volunteered for an experiment. Clint brought her in from the cold. Nelson & Murdock is standing. ]

[wild card, deep roads event]
[He waves said flashlight around, illuminating, for the briefest of moments, various strange ruins. Whoever was down there before had had a flourishing civilization, that much Foggy can tell off the ruins. The problem is--what drove them out?]
Because so far, all we've found is a great big pile of nothing.
no subject
Don't look at me, I warned you guys that this was a bad idea.
[ But of course he's tagging along and of course he doesn't need the light or anything else to 'see' down here. Actually, the echo makes it even easier for his senses to pinpoint everything. It might as well be a sunny day for Matt. ]
no subject
We might find something important, though. Even if this is one of those "events", it could still have meaning, right?
no subject
Or we could also find something with really sharp teeth. [Gesturing to himself:] And I betcha whatever it is, it's gonna take one look at me and think, oh, that guy looks delicious.
[He's kidding. Mostly. At least he's trying to make fun of the very real possibility that at least one of them might get eaten by--whatever's down there. Foggy's--not too keen on dying today, especially not at the hands of something with very sharp teeth. Or claws. Or--
--Nelson, quit letting your imagination get away on you.]

[ If they're going to spend any degree of time here, they both have to know about Matt's powers and all. That must have been a fun conversation to have. ]
Nothing's going to surprise us as long as I'm here.
