she's ended up with a scrub brush in her hand, a bucket full of water and vinegar from one of the closets, and an incredible and inescapable need to put something in order. right now, that something is cleaning the walls. yes, the walls. when was the last time they were cleaned? never? in the entire history of wonderland? she thinks so.

( the last year's been a whirlwind in the worst way.

a mess of who the hell are you? and why does it matter so much? and maybe she didn't want to figure out who she is, because she's afraid she'll hate that person. she made herself sick with it, and she tried to be strong and do what was right and not-give-up, because that's what everyone says is important too.

she still can't think for herself.

eva could never anticipate the short drop into some fantasy world. it's stranger than twin peaks. finding out noora was already in wonderland, it gave eva the strength to deal. sort of. ever since that night at the theater kids' party, noora's helped give her strength. it's looking like she can maybe do the same for noora now. she walks up beside her friend, nudging her gently. )

[The only reason Caroline hasn't personally cleaned the walls is because, by this point, she has a massive apartment with four people living in it that she can spend her time cleaning when she gets the itch and needs a distraction.

[ When the camera turns on, Elle is still poking at the comm. She frowns, her brow furrowing as she looks through the options more and more. There's some sort of forum for people to talk. That's nice. (Gross. Who cares? She doesn't.) And... that's pretty much it.

Her finger moves more quickly as she becomes increasingly alarmed at not finding what she's looking for. Where, where, where?

Her frustration mounts to the point that she starts muttering to herself. ]

How old is this thing? Where are the games?

It isn't the first time she's woken up and not known where she is. It is the first time she's woken up in such a fancy place. It's like waking up in Buckingham Palace, only without that little troll queen lady and all the dogs.

It's also the first time she's woken up without someone else around, either with her or observing her.

She waits where she is, because she's certain that if this is something Company-related, she'll get in trouble if she doesn't. But no one comes, and nothing happens, and she gets bored. And really, that's on them.

She tinkers with the ancient phone they gave her (honestly - old people use these), and still no one comes.

Which means there's only one thing left to do.

Holding her hands are the ready in case this is a test and she has to light up, she sets off in search of who the hell and why?

If this is a test, she's going to kill the crap out of whoever's testing her. See how they like that.

Well, she'll kill them if she can get away with it. She'll play it by ear.

[There's a cat.

R had seen it from the door, and it hadn't moved as he'd approached - shuffling, awkward, and the kind of noisy that usually frightened the more skittish animals away. Beside it, he'd lowered himself to the grass and stretched out on his stomach, close enough to the flowers to see the insects moving amongst them, and the cat still hadn't fled.

If anything, it seems curious about him. He likes that. The cats in the city, when he's seen them, have been mangy, starved things always searching for their next meal. They're no good for the Dead to eat, so they get left alone.

This cat is orange, and large and fluffy, and it's pretending not to notice him. It gets close enough for him to lift a hand and reach out - his fingers close loosely on the back of its neck and stroke down the length of its body.

The purring is immediate. R smiles, and the tip of his finger gently touches to the patch of skin and short hair just above the cat's nose. He speaks.]

Boop.

[Untroubled, he ends up lying on his back with a cat curled up on his chest, the very model of 'can't move, there's a cat asleep on me'. With one hand behind his head and the slightly greyish pallor of his skin, you might be forgiven for mistaking him for really dead.

But then he blinks.]

[All in all, it's much nicer here than it was in the airport, or in the decaying remains of the city. The ache from his abandonment by Julie is still there, though not as fierce as it was, and he has settled into the idea that maybe what had happened had been for the best. After all, what could he offer to someone as bright and vibrant as Julie?

He'd found the library almost by accident, in mindless wandering that had led him down increasingly unfamiliar corridors all looking the same as the last. At the door, he stands in slack-jawed amazement.

Books are something out of reach for him. Words shift and letters morph into other ones and he can't remember the last time he was able to read anything. It's just another level of detachment, making the Dead's separation from the Living all that more complete. He feels like he used to read a lot, but he doesn't remember enjoying it. The recollection of paper shifting under his fingers flashes in and out in faded greyscale.

He moves through the shelves, occasionally trailing his fingers along the spines of books and enjoying the sensation of it. Occasionally, he pulls one out, but doesn't give it much attention before carefully putting it back.

R would like to remember how to read, but much like his ability to pronounce more than four syllables at a time, it's long gone.]

[He could tell no one had been in this room for a while simply by the smell - or lack thereof - of life in it. However, what had drawn his attention hadn't been the vacancy, but the gramophone and stack of records clearly visible from the door as he'd opened it.

Music filters out into the hallway - Sinatra, at first, then Dean Martin later, switching now and then between the two. R sits on the floor and sways gently from side to side, eyes closed.]

[Right, so: this is definitely weird. On the other hand, is it the weirdest thing Ling's experienced in his life? Not even in the top ten. So, sure, when he stumbles across a guy who's apparently dead apart from his lively gaze lying in the garden with a cat on him--what's he gonna do, criticize? No way.]

[Instead, after some scrutiny and thought, he raises a hand in greeting. Even though he's looking down at R, look, he's doing his best.]

Nice cat.

[Georgia draws her gun the second what looks like a corpse blinks.

Honestly, it takes everything she has not to draw her gun the second she sees a corpse, since while she may know not all corpses get up here, she has a lifetime of instincts telling her corpses without a bullet hole in the head are going to get up and try to eat you.

Still, while she aims and her finger goes to the trigger, she... hesitates. Hesitating can be a death sentence in the field, but there's something off about this.

If this is a zombie, why hasn't he eaten the cat? And possibly even more confusingly, why isn't the cat running away? Animals don't hang around when there are zombies in the area. They certainly don't sit on them.

Instead of pulling the trigger she says, in a very clear and surprisingly calm voice:]

You have ten seconds to prove you're not going to eat me. Coming any closer than you are disqualifies you.

[She'd throw him a blood test, but she's yet to figure out if they actually work on zombie diseases besides the one from her world. The rules are different here. That makes it dangerous.]

[ Jane's figured out a little of what she likes when it comes to music thanks to Kurt. Mama Cass, Patsy Kline - that type of music. When she's walking the halls and hears music, she stops and cants her head to the side, then slowly walks toward it. When she finds the source, she stands in the open doorway, smiling a little. Listening to the song, she waits until it's finished to clear her throat and walk forward a bit. ]

I hope you don't mind if I stay and listen a little?

[ She's wearing a tank top and jeans, so all her tattoos on her chest and arms are visible. ]

If you want, I can go. It's just - I've never heard those songs before, those singers. I liked it.

[The Library is a place that Newt spends much of his time. Curious about what might be new, what worlds he might read about that were once part of a book and were now truly from another world. Another world where he knew the people from that world now.

It's there among the shelves that he finds he's not alone. Pausing, a tome in his hand, he looks up and smiles at the man. Pausing only long enough to take in how he looks, that he's certainly not entirely like anyone that Newt knows, his smile only widens.]

So glad to find I'm not the only one that enjoys this place.

[Even if he had to stop a mirror here, and worried those that watched over the library blamed him for the things that happened that day.]

[ Sahu's a fan of rock, but he's got real love for music of all sorts... except that one really weird country cover of Purple Rain... that thing was a travesty. Either way he's wandering around, not finding anyone or anything of really any interest. At least not until the sound of music catches his ear.

It's not really what he's into but poking his head into the room he can definitely appreciate that the guy sitting on the floor seems to be enjoying it so much. He can't even bring himself to say anything and disturb him.

But Sahu's never been good at standing still and doing nothing for very long. So after tapping his foot a few seconds he swings his guitar off his back, strums it a couple times to get a feel for the tune, and then starts playing along with the record. ]

So...some people have been saying this place is based on a book. It's one I've never read before, though, which is kind of sad! Does anyone know a lot about it? And if not, what's your favorite book?

II. The Dining Room

[The Little Girl is sitting at one of the tables, a stuffed fox propped up beside her. On the plate in front of her is a large, decadent-looking chocolate cake. Not a slice of cake, a whole cake. She's smiling, but looks hesitant to actually take a bite.]

I know Mom isn't here! And that I don't have to keep following her Life Plan! [She pauses, looking at the fox for a bit before continuing.] Well, isn't healthy eating just good common sense? Like brushing your teeth and combing your hair!

[R is not in the dining room to eat anything, and every Living person in there should probably be glad of that. He's exploring in the quiet, idle way that he often does - time passes slowly when you have no real need to sleep - and doesn't pay too much attention to the girl until she speaks.

She's talking to a stuffed toy, but he doesn't think that too odd. Wryly, he muses to himself that it probably provides better conversation than some of the other zombies he has tried to speak to.

His hands go into his pockets, and he looks at the cake for a moment. It should probably look appetising. Maybe it would if he could smell it.]

Don't have to eat.. the whole thing. [He suggests helpfully(?). She doesn't seem to be getting too much advice from the fox.]

This device of yours is not nearly as fancy as an iPhone 6, [ why yes, that accent is as thick and smooth as butter, having been churned in the heart of georgia ] but I'll take it.

[ ...nevermind that he's very recently acquainted with the uncharged iphone in his pocket, let alone apple products and cell phones in general. it's not his fault nobody told him he needs to charge it or taught him how to check his voicemail. answering calls and doing this here facetime-esque thing is about the extent of his tech savvy abilities.

thankfully, he bullshits well. (a little too well, in some cases.) ]

Now, tell me. How do you keep yourselves entertained in a vast, luxurious residence such as this?

Give me your finest. Preferably your hardest finest. [ though he's not completely opposed to downing a few glasses of rotgut if that's all they've got on tap. lord knows it probably won't kill him, given the nature of his ageless existence. if a century plus at the bottom of a well didn't kill him, then watered down, rough cut whiskey sure as hell ain't gonna do him in.

alcoholic necessity acquired (whatever it may be), doc selects a spot at the back of the bar. a spot where he can kick back with his boots up on the table, hat pulled down over his eyes just enough to give the illusion of sleep without obstructing his own view, allowing his eyes to keep a constant watch on the comings and goings from this establishment.

once he grows bored with the faux napping routine, he'll pull the afore mentioned iphone from his pocket and feign... doing something on it. he hasn't quite figured out just what it is people do — beyond checking/sending text messages, of course — when they stare at these screens, but he does a damn good job of mimicking it. a decent rouse, except the phone is dead and lost its charge long before he found himself in wonderland. that, and his clothes and the twin pistols holstered to either side of his hip make him look like the last person to be handling a piece of 21st century technology. ]

[Wynonna doesn't see his post on the network. Mostly because she hasn't checked the network much. Research and network posting, that's Waverly thing. Wynonna? She's not so much a researcher, she's a doer. A go-getter. And above all, a drinker, so when she's making her way through the castle looking for answers it isn't surprising that she finds herself in the bar. She orders herself a couple of shots of whatever the bartender would recommend and looks around for a table when she spots a hat she would know anywhere.

Oh thank god.

She sits down next to him, grabbing his phone from his hands without question.]

You know, I'd lecture you on keeping this charged but somehow I don't think it makes much difference here.

( damon lifts his head up from where he stands, cleaning of the top of the bar. it's the sound of the voice that draws his attention, and then... there's everything else about him. huh. wonderland still has ways of surprising unless this is some kind of cowboy movie event. )

Normally, I'd ask if you really want the hardest and finest, but you look and sounds like you walked out of an actual John Wayne movie so you probably don't want the pisswater most people think counts as hard liquor these days.

( he sets a glass in front of him and then turns to survey the side of the bar that he doesn't go to often except for himself. )

[ Back home in New York, he's a familiar face. Almost a regular in the tabloid pages, and lately, after the death of his father, he's been making headlines. After all, how many 20 year olds have been put in charge of multibillion dollar corporations with little to no experience? Harry's the only son of the legendary Norman Osborn and heir to Oscorp Industries. Here in Wonderland however, Harry's a nobody. Just some guy stuck in a strange little world. It should make him feel relieved to not have to be in the spotlight, to not have to live up to anyone's expectations anymore -- to finally be able to crawl out of his father's shadow. Except being here hasn't changed anything for him.

There's that feeling of dread weighing down on him as each day passes. There's still that heaviness in his chest. The pain, the anger, the sadness, that loneliness -- none of it ever goes away. Worst of all: he's still dying. Slowly, but surely the disease is eating away at him. He's reminded every day that there's no running away from it. He is his father's son. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Harry's standing at the very edge of the roof, staring at the sunset, feeling the cool wind on his face. He closes his eyes and thinks back to a time when things had been carefree and easy. He's about eight and he's running around in Peter's backyard, playing catch. It's been hours, but he's still full of boundless energy, laughing, screaming. He lets out a bit of a chuckle at the memory. Of course the best memories he has are from over a decade before, back when he was still an innocent kid.

The years after that sucked. It changed him. It changed everything.

Uncapping a bottle of scotch, he takes another swig of the liquor, feeling the burn. He should do the responsible thing and step away from the edge if he's going to get himself drunk again, but what's the worst that can happen? ]

( peter gets the sense there's a lot he's missing from a future he hasn't lived yet. he has been in wonderland for a year. somehow in his own world, there's another version of him who finds harry coming back into his life after the years they've been apart. harry was his friend a very long time ago when they were both still kids, back when they were both each other's only friend for different reasons (peter's loner-ness even as a child, harry being as rich as he was. it made them both outliers), and something's very wrong, which is why peter's hovering.

it's why his heart jumps up in his throat at harry standing at the very edge of the roof like that. he's trying to think of how to even speak out loud without startling his friend. he waits until he gets close enough to catch him if he falls. )

Given that this location hasn't been on any map or time that I've had access to it is unusual that it also exists outside of time.

( It's not the Vanishing Point, or at least not the one that she knows. Another from another universe? )

It would lead me to question whether or not there were other similar places - other things outside of time. Perhaps the subtle differences that distinguish our universe could result in something like this.

( It was one thing to exist in this form inside Captain Hunter's mind, but here? He'd remembered, let it go, and this shouldn't have existed.

( Perhaps, despite what had seemed to be a success, he hadn't actually let go, simply changing where his mind lay from the Waverider to... she didn't actually know where. It wasn't anywhere that Gideon had had data on before )

( She's never had to refer to an actual book before, being a supercomputer, and despite how much this extends upon the Waverider's own library Gideon finds it a little lacking. Surprisingly that isn't due to the contents of the library but having to manually find something herself.

It leads the woman to wandering up and down the aisles, searching in what is starting to seem like a fruitless effort. She's looking for information on time. Though Gideon's something of an 'expert' on it herself her knowledge doesn't seem to be as relevant here )

If only there was a comprehensive volume on all information.

[ claudia pokes her entire head through a space where apparently books are supposed to go, swiveling it around until her gaze lands on gideon. she finishes the quote incorrectly, with a fake and sugary grin: ]

[ if there's a more recognizable voice in the universe than gideon's, ray will eat his suit. but that voice combined with the names she's calling out leave zero room for doubt. it renews his hope somehow and leaves him a bit dumbfounded all the same. he rounds the bushes, expecting vibrant blue or... a device emitting the voice?

but there's just a woman???? standing in the gardens??? ]

Excuse me-- [ he starts forward toward her, golf bag dragging behind him and wobbling against the speed ] --did you hear where that voice just now came from?
